WORLD JUMP # 1: EL MINHA.
![]() ![]() welcome to el minha. It will happen at random- you could be asleep, or wandering the Temple, or a variety of other options. It will feel a little strange, like a sudden warmth spreading across your skin, and then your bracelet will light up and a semi-familiar voice will be heard. I hope you are able to help the people of El Minha! And oh- in case I didn't mention it already, water is very, very valuable here. And then you will blink, and it will be bright. Bright, and warm, as you are standing just inside the grand walls that protect the impressive city before you. At your hip there will be a small bag with a few bits of coin - nothing too crazy, and definitely not enough to last you the entire stay (which...you're not exactly sure how long it will be), but enough to get started. Your presence brings a couple of glances, a stare or two, but overall the city seems to continue on with its day. Welcome to the Red Desert, the city of El Minha. ![]() THE PALACE After a few hours of being within El Minha, the King has heard that a large amount of travelers are now wandering within the city limits. An audience is called in front of the Royal Palace, and King Kathashun steps out onto the dias. He is dressed rather plainly, for a monarch -- a purple robe, with some gold bangles and bracelets, but no ornate crown or anything like that. However, when he appears, the natives around you grow quiet, at the presence of their King. ![]() Welcome to the heart and soul of El Minha - a massive outdoor market in the center of the city. Covered by fabric stretched between the buildings, this market feels almost like a city, or living soul, in and of itself. It is constantly moving, constantly evolving. Anything you could imagine is for sale here - spices, jewelry, weapons - whatever you’re looking for, anything at all. While you won’t necessarily find specific items from your home, you can find any matter of similarly made or crafted ones. Think cheap knock-offs, or unnecessarily well-made versions, because they can vary widely. There can also be items of some level of magic, though nothing particularly strong or overly impressive. (feel free to ask the mods on the previous ooc post about if an item is too over-powered to be found in the market - and also know that there’s always the chance you could find it in the underground. It just depends on how determined you are to track it down.) Stalls can range from cobbled together boxes and goods to grand, incredible stands - it all depends on what you’re looking for, and how long you’re willing to look. There is no map here, so tread lightly! ![]() As the announcement from King Kathashun comes to an end, all members of the Circle will be communicated - in one way or another - the direction to the Sparkling Sapphire. Free housing, you’ve been told. All you have to do is go, give them your name, and let them know you are part of the group that King Kathashun has directed here. ![]() THE FIGHT RING The ring itself is somewhat on the outskirts of town - a colosseum-esque collection of buildings that watch over a pit-like arena. The buildings protect the Fighting Ring from any outside eyes, or any unwanted attention, as this area is solely under the command of The Syndicate. Anyone is allowed inside, as long as you don’t cause any problems and don’t start any trouble. There are a number of what you can assume are Syndicate-employed figures that are constantly canvasing the area as well, so don’t expect to be able to sneak in unless invited or allowed. ![]() The Golden Phoenix is the central location of the Syndicate . . . and locals will make absolutely no effort to hide that fact from the Circle members. However, people don't seem to be afraid to go, though you definitely need to have coin to get through the door. Additionally, please feel free to write up and work with your own prompts! These are presented as jumping off points for your characters, not limitations. The idea of this world- as with all the others- is to explore. There will be some NPCs interacting with characters as well, so keep an eye out for those as well! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them back on the mod questions thread back in the OOC post from before! From this point forward, the Circle has become involved with the political stasis and climate of El Minha. What your character finds out, decides, and does from here on out will affect the future of this city- one way or another! But what you do is completely up to you. What you discover, explore, and uncover in this city will be yours to discover, explore, and uncover. Who knows what you might find? :) |
Re: ( 1 )
[Keith isn't expecting to get snagged from behind, and his first reflex and instinct is a counter-attack, especially since the aliens he's used to fighting are about this guy's size or bigger. But he manages to catch himself before he goes for his sword because wait.
He's being helped? ...looks that way. Because the guy who'd been intent on tossing him out on his ass is backing off, and without the scuffle and trouble that Keith was inevitably going to cause.
He waits for him to walk off before craning his neck to look up at his rescuer(?) as best he can.]
Please don't actually sit on me. ...but thanks for the assist.
no subject
I dunno, seems like you need it. Some people are unlucky enough that trouble just follows them instead of the other way around. [But he gives a grin, as he's clearly teasing.]
Ignoring the fact you'd turn into a pancake. [There's a playful swat against Keith's back.] But no problem. I'm used to it. Thanks for not flippin' out and kickin' me in the nuts, I snuck up on you and all.
no subject
[He does have a knack for finding trouble, though more often than not he's an active reason for it. What is not throwing yourself into danger? Keith doesn't know. Except this time he'd honestly been behaving. He'd been about to stop behaving, mind you, so this guy showing up had been lucky.
And pancake does seem right. Keith takes the time to actually look his rescuer over and yeah. A big guy for a human. Real big.]
Oh well no, I mean I wouldn't have kicked you. If anything I would've stabbed you. [He says it with a grin though like somehow that's a reassuring thing to say.]
Anyway. I owe you one. [He holds out a hand.] I'm Keith.
no subject
Your luck? Listen, I've been nearly run through enough times, I kinda wanna avoid makin' that a habit.
[The scars on his face and the wide one spread across his chest, easily visible from his open jacket, tell that story pretty clearly. Maybe this is what happens when you become the "Master of Blades". Why the hell didn't Gilgamesh tell him about this stipulation??
Gladio takes the hand, his grip firm yet surprisingly gentle as he gives it a shake.]
If you wanna owe me anything, then don't stab me. Call me Gladio.
no subject
Got it, no stabbing.
[Keith concedes easily enough. He prefers not stabbing friendly folk, after all. But life as a Blade has made him a little jumpier than he used to be, always on guard now. Not that he was ever in his life exactly relaxed.
Keith takes a moment to look this guy over. He should be intimidating (and he is, on size alone) but he also seems nice which makes any intimidation significantly lessened.]
Sounds like a fair deal to me. ...I still don't get what their problem is. I guess I must've looked suspicious. Or broke.
no subject
That's the problem with big marketplaces like this. You're not making anyone a profit by just standing around, but you gotta make it clear you're not here to start any problems. Make eye contact, speak when you're spoken to. [He nods his head at Keith, indicating his clothes.]
Maybe try a little more to blend in, y'know? [Crossing his arms, he shrugs.]
Then again, that's rich coming from me. I stick out like a sore thumb everywhere I go.
no subject
I was gonna buy something. I told the Witch I'd bring her a quiznakking souvenir.
[Because why not. ...and wow hey he blends-- no he's wearing his Blade uniform, a full on body suit that glows in a few places. He could work on blending better.]
Yeah well, I mean, how would you change that? You'd sort of fit in around the Galra anyway. Size-wise. They're a lot more purple.
no subject
Ah. That's right, he needs to remember, this place is full of individuals from other worlds. He's just never been immersed in someone else's clearly opposing experience like this before.
...like giant purple people his size.
Sounds legit enough. Yet Gladio can't help but grin in amusement as he tries not to laugh.]
Yeah, no thanks. Purple was never my color. [He likes being himself, all tanned and tattoo'd up. But he's curious.]
What are Galra like?
no subject
Fair enough.
[Not everyone's color. But oh. That question.]
Uh... generally? Bloodthirsty, merciless, militant. The Galra Empire conquered most of the known universe and enslaved or destroyed entire planets and populations. But... not all of them are like that!
[He's quick to add that last part, and continue.] Some of us are actively fighting against the Empire, for freedom.
