He knows his dad had a funny, bellowing laugh, and his mother's smile was always gentle. He knows they once had something close to a normal life, shelter over their heads, clothes to wear, snacks for him to swipe from the jar when no one's looking. He feels likes he remembers taking that one picture with them, but it's possible his brain also filled in the spaces when he first saw it. In fact, it might have been that picture that gave his parents a face in his memories, because it always used to be foggy. That's really a testament to how little he remembers them. His most important memories, honestly, involve Mako; Mako wrapping him in a coat when it was cold, Mako stealing them some bread, Mako hugging him when he was scared...

Still, being the kind of guy who heavily idealizes romance and family, he has thought about this in the past, made up some stories about the wonderful love their parents had to have had. ]

I think they must've just been made for each other. That's why it worked. I'll admit that I don't remember much about them, but I feel like they were always smiling ...
