[When Maes first started noticing new people around the temple he'd been curious. Roy had told him before that he could check for names on the special watch the Witch had given them. It wasn't long before he'd seen familiar names, but of course he hadn't reached out. He didn't need Roy cautioning him about such encounters. It felt cowardly, but he'd rather Roy give Edward and Winry some heads up before Maes made his appearance.
He hated it, but was there really a better way? He had no idea 'when' they'd be coming from and after hearing about Roy's final encounter with a certain shapeshifter, well, it could end badly.
Still, he wasn't just going to hole up in his room. He had a pretty convenient ability for getting around unnoticed and he should continue practicing his ability to teleport, at least until Roy had given him the all clear. So, he took a walk. It was risky, given how ornery the faeries had been as of late...but it was better than sitting around.
It was on his way back that he caught sight of blond hair heading out of the Temple. He almost doesn't recognize him at first. It's almost more jarring than having seen Alphonse. With Alphonse, he'd never seen the boy in his original form, so there wasn't the clear indication of passing time. Edward however...well he'd been with Ed a good deal, seen him at his dining room table and in a hospital bed. It wasn't just a growth spurt (though the young man would still not be called a 'giant' by any means), the boy had filled out with broader shoulders, longer hair, and he had the appearance of someone who had gone through EVEN MORE shit than was right for anyone...let alone a teenager who had already seen some shit.
He blurts it out before he can stop himself.]
Edward? Is that you?
[Maes winces, but knows it is too late now. At least he'd already been given the "all clear".]
