It's a little involved. ( just a forewarning - korra's smile is entirely apologetic. ) There are four different nationalities where I'm from, one for each of the elements. Some people from each of those places have the gift of the elements — we call it bending. Uh, so. Someone born from the Fire Nation might have firebending! I hope that makes sense. ( it's ... very weird! to explain it to someone. it's really just something that's known back at home, some truth in their world no one could understand life without. ) The Avatar is someone who's master of all four elements, and bridge between the Human and Spirit worlds.
