There is something particularly cruel about how this is already trying to take them away from each other, stealing his sight and plunging Shiro into silence. But neither of them were letting it do that. They are still together, still have each other, are still communicating. And Keith is so grateful for it, for this much, for Shiro being here, With him.
He shifts up as he's pulled, even if he realizes that Shiro has realized he's crying, but he hears the way Shiro's breath catches too, and realizes he isn't alone in this. Keith sinks into the kiss, though it does nothing to still the tears that keep slipping from his eyes. As he lifts a hand to settle at Shiro's cheek, feels the dampness beneath his fingertips, something in his chest twists, tight and painful.
The words that follow bring sharper pain, and Keith nearly chokes on his name, "Shiro..." he breathes, knows Shiro can't hear him and leans in to kiss him once more, pouring everything he can into it -- the gratitude, the pain, the love that's almost too much for him to bear. He'd give anything for Shiro not to be in this situation. But they are here, and Keith wants to be nowhere but by his side, right here.
His hand drops from Shiro's cheek, down to let his fingertip trace letters at the base of his throat. T O G E T H E R He agrees. Whatever is to come, they'll face it together.
