PHASE TWO of AKVOS (Log #2)
![]() ![]() the tides shift. Darkness has begun to spread, rapidly, throughout the entirety of Akvos. Different areas of the Kingdom are plagued by different instances of terror, but one thing remains clear: the Circle does have the available tools to help . . . of sorts. Many of you have discovered different areas of Akvos to focus on, but by and large? There are no shortage of people to help, of people to fight, and of creatures to save. Hurry quickly, Circle members. Akvos needs your aid. ![]() SHADOWS IN THE DARK. Shadow creatures have begun to multiple en masse in the Depths of Markolos, and are spreading to every which corner of Akvos. They will be at their highest density in the Depths, and take the form of terrifying creatures with massive claws and gnashing teeth. They seem to be impervious to non-magical damage, so some unique tag-team action may be necessary in order to actually kill the things. ![]() THE SEVEN SEAS OF WHY. In addition to the shadow creatures, each area is plagued by a different onslaught of dark magic. Each area has different needs, and each area will require your attention. Focus your energies where able, and do your best to stem the flow of chaos before it is too late. (Check here for a breakdown of types of effective magic.) ![]() THE WHISPERS OF KEA. Throughout the duration of this battle, investigations taking place by members of the Circle will begin to unveil certain . . . clues. The Princess is still missing, but members of the Circle are getting close to unlocking where she is. King Kathashun, at the beginning of this journey, indicated that she was the key to stopping all of this, and while most of you have no idea who that guy is, he seems to be genuine. (Right? Right.)Additionally, please feel free to write up and work with your own prompts! These are presented as jumping off points for your characters, not limitations. The idea of this world- as with all the others- is to explore. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them back on the various threads back in the OOC post from before! NOTE: The Princess' messages will unlock a hint to their meaning (if they aren't solved by the time this happens) once this log hits over 750 comments. :) We are pretty sure this will happen well before the End Log for Akvos happens in January, so we won't be putting a time limit on it. ;) Have fun! |
konoha | jinba | ota
[The network's patchy revival had at least given Konoha hope that some of the people who had arrived in Akvos separately from her weren't dead. But she came from a medieval world, and though technology was useful... she trusts her own eyes and senses far more than damaged portions of barely readable texts.
So you'll have to forgive her when, at the sight of anyone she recognizes from the Circle in the midst of all the chaos that came from the summoning to the palace for the Queen's announcement... Konoha just bursts into tears and attempts to swim close enough to embrace. (Attempt being the operative word, she's not a fast swimmer- she's dodge-able.)]
You're really alive- !
02 | FIELDS OF AKVOSIA | DYING CORAL
[Since she'd arrived in the fields, it's the place Konoha feels most comfortable returning to to help. Her powers can't do anything to help the bleached coral, but surely others could... So she tags along, leaning over the shoulder of someone inspecting the damage with a worried expression on her face.]
I tried replanting healthy ones into the bleached spots earlier... but they all turned white and died within the hour... What do you think is actually happening?
[Was it magic, then? Or just a really strong sickness that worked... really fast... ?]
03 | SHELTER | FISH HANDOUTS
[With their witch powers boosted, Konoha is doing all she can to help offset the food shortage caused by the collapse of the coral reefs and shadow creatures, setting up under the instruction of the organizing mermaids in the makeshift shelters' food distribution line.
Since it's mostly merpeople, she's "made" a lot of fish... but at the sight of a fellow Circle member, she gives a small smile of encouragement, holding up a handful of fresh mackerel.]
Tired of fish, yet? I can make you something else if you want... How about fruit?
04 | PALACE OF WAHINE | SHADOW ATTACKS
[Konoha had no illusions about her own lack of capabilities when it came to fighting. She's avoided going out alone, avoided even the hint of shadows... but she hadn't been able to resist answering a cry for help on one of her food runs, stumbling upon an unconscious mermaid ringed by three writhing, blurry-edged shadows.
Frozen momentarily in fear, hands clutched to her chest as her eyes dart desperately about for any place to run (swim), Konoha can't find her voice at first, her own call for aid lost in a stream of bubbles... before the shadows spring after their new target and Konoha turns to flee, hooves churning in the water as she tries and fails to achieve the same speeds she was capable of on dry land, shadows gaining.]
Help! Help- !
[Rounding a corner, she finds her voice just in time, calling out to the first person she sees and... hoping they're a better fighter or more magical than she is.]

Familiar voices crying for help, however, are far more rare and about ten times more alarming. All at once, Arenvald realizes that’s Konoha, and he’s never swam faster in his life. He cries guide him, and soon enough he comes around the side of a building to see her swimming for her life, three of those terrible, inky-black monstrosities on her tail. ]
Konoha! Over here!
[ Even as she swims towards him, he swims for her, golden light beginning to wash over his skin as he prepares to assault her pursuers. ]
no subject
Both her hearts are thundering, both lungs heaving, but despite the considerable head start she’d had on them the shadows are nearly on her, nipping at her back legs, only the thrash of churning hooves in the water preventing teeth from sinking in. Yet.
But then Arenvald is there, she hears him through the whiteout panic, locks her eyes on him- Arenvald knew magic, he was an adventurer, this kind of thing-
She doesn’t have the “air” to call back, but a stream of bubbles follows when she spurs herself towards him in a last desperate push.]
no subject
He’s almost there, reaching a hand out for her. His fingers close around one of her arms and he lets their momentum carry them both into a clumsy and desperate sort of embrace. The very instant his arms close around her, he goes bright with sunlight, a beacon in the desolate city streets.
A dark, sharply-clawed hand makes a grab for Konoha when she slows, but Arenvald’s light beats it back. The three creatures halt their pursuit as the light pouring from Arenvald rends them apart, their shrieks of pain and surprise brief and garbled.
He doesn’t dare stop glowing until he’s certain they’re gone, and keeps his arms tight around Konoha’s shoulders. ]
I’ve got you, it’s okay. I’ve got you.

How did you guess?
[Konoha is probably tired of fish, herself.]
It's not too much to ask? It looks like you've been working overtime already.
no subject
Ehe, it’s no problem at all.
[She puts down the fish, as much as you can put such a thing properly down in a floating environment, flexing her fingers with a smile.]
I don’t really get it, but... the magic stuff is just really easy right now. I used to get tired if I made this much food but I don’t feel tired at all.
no subject
[It had come in handy when she'd wanted to make some water boil to help combat the algae.]
It comes without having to think about it all that hard, right? Makes me wish it was always that easy, but I suppose it's probably because this place really needs us.
[She'll definitely take Konoha up on her offer, in that case, but:]
In return, can I help you hand some things out to people? I just finished a supply run, so I'm free.

Konoha.
[ He flags her down when he sees her, swimming up a little closer so his voice can carry through the water. ]
Can you show me where you tried?
no subject
[Konoha sort of bobs in the water, her best attempt at a bow when she can't actually keep her hooves on the ground without weighting down her saddlebags to keep her on the sandy ocean floor.
The question is one she can at least answer, unlike trying to figure out why this was all happening, though, so she's quick to nod, pointing to the east.]
Sure- It's over here! Follow me!
[She's not a fast swimmer, not built to do so with her entire body beneath the water, but... She's off, hooves kicking in a paddle.]
04
[ A loud, defiant chirp sounds out from close by. The plea for help isn't answered by a person, but by a little yellow bird that's a less than three feet tall. Alpha kicks his feet, propelling himself as fast as he can to Konoha's location.
He positions himself to float in between the swarm of advancing shadows and the other Circle member. While he doesn't have any electrical charges weapons on him, he has a few tricks tucked away in his feathers. He doesn't reach for his magic cards just yet.
For now, he just keeps on... angrily squawking at the shadow creatures. Kind of like an angry guard dog barking at them. ]
Kweh kweh kweh! Kweh-kweh!
[ The first half of that is nothing but angry bird noises. The second half, however, will cause Konoha's watch to light up with the text: ]
Get away from here!
no subject
She doesn't stop to check.
So while she doesn't actually read the text... the result is the same. She's trying to get out of there as fast as she can, the shadows snarling and snapping in pursuit, heading now... for the bird.]
4
He's not as quick as he was on land either, so he calls out for their attention even as he frantically paddles closer.]
Hey! Get over here!
[He grabs whichever shadow is closest as soon as it's in range; he can feel his energy getting sapped already, but the shadow "dies" after a few moments of his touch.
Of course, that still leaves them with two to contend with.]
no subject
Wh- What are you doing?!
[But he's... not... running? She churns past him, one shadow still nipping at her heels while another turns its attention on the new target, snarling.]
no subject
[By now, Firo's seen enough of the shadow creatures to know what healing can do to them, though he's been careful to try to avoid using his power when other means will suffice.
This isn't one of those situations; the shadows are too close and too fast. So he reaches for the nearest shadow, and when it eagerly scuttles closer, he grabs right for it and holds on--until it vanishes.
One down. But the contact leaves him light-headed and wobbly as he casts around trying to orient himself towards the next shadow.]

Sorry for the delay; I got wrapped up in holiday stuff!
4....sorry konoha
Connor's just recovering from having fended off another monster, the swirl of dissipated shadow just barely having left his jaws. That's right, jaws -- he's used his power to fight back when they tried to surprise him, when they tried to ambush him from around corners or deeper shadow, by transforming himself into an overlarge wolf the size of maybe three grown men.
He hadn't known Konoha would lurch around the corner, and he had registered her voice too late. Otherwise he might've chosen a different form.
But in the end, in this singular moment, that doesn't really seem to matter. The jinba will be met with the sight of a large wolf which she likely would dreadfully fear, and it might not be readily apparent that it's Connor (though his LED still glows on the side of his skull, potentially covered by fur), but that's unimportant. Connor is of no threat.
Not to her, at least.
Because the same moment the shadow appears just behind her, he growls loudly and snaps his jaws in its direction, aiming to sink sharp teeth into its limb.]
connor!!!!
Konoha doesn't have time to process why or how that is. She comes desperately racing around the corner as fast as she can, hooves churning the water in her attempt to evade her pursuers... and there it is. It's even bigger than the wolves of the forest, a hulking beast more like a demon or a god than an animal.
Like oguchi no makami come to the human world. Except this was Akvos, not her world, and maybe if she wasn't terrified she'd notice the LED, maybe she'd realize how insane it was that a normal wolf would be under the water, be able to realize in time that it had to be magic-
But all she sees is fangs, the same sort that nearly closed over her throat, that had left the scar on her arm, and Gonta isn't here to save her this time.
So she flails, cry for help a choked out trail of bubbles as she tries to change course, to get as far away from it as she can, possibly more afraid of it than she is of the chasing shadows right behind her. Enough so that she darts right back into their direction trying to avoid the wolf. And as its teeth snap into one... the claws of rip into the fabric of her skirt, scratching along her flank.]
HE'S SORRY.....FOR DIFFERENT REASONS THIS TIME
Thankfully, his aim is true enough. He feels the pressure of teeth sink into the telltale faux flesh of the monster’s limb, stilling its pursuit of his friend. Connor lurches his head back to drag it further away, aggressive in demeanor and look.]

03!
Hey, how did you know that mackerel was exactly what I wanted? You're, like, a mind reader, Konoha! [ He takes the fish, even if he makes no move to eat it. ] How're you holdin' up, by the way?
[ She's probably just as tired and worried as the rest of them, but he still has to ask. ]
no subject
Hehe... I'm just trying to at least change up the types of fish...
[She just didn't know many, so she was rotating between... mackerel, sweetfish, and catfish. At least the merpeople found the river fish to be rather novel.]
I'm just glad we're all back in the same place... What about you?
no subject
Man, I hear ya. Bein' split up like that was a serious bummer. [ That's kind of an understatement on purpose. He was a lot more devastated by it than he lets on. ] Seems like everyone's in one piece, though, so...can't complain.
[ Well, he could, but he's not gonna! Not about this, anyway. ]
Where'd you end up, anyway? I heard people were as far out as the jellyfish field!

This can't get any worse and so, Kainé can only give up with fighting against it. You win this time, Konaha. ]

Seems like their only weakiness is magic, huh?
no subject
But she doesn't want to sleep, doesn't want to feel restless, useless, so she's taken the children of a guard who had to go out on patrol, one fry curled up asleep in a kelp sling on her back and another in her arms.
And there was Nier... and Konoha can't help but look worriedly for injuries even as she gently rocks the sleepy merbabe.]
Do your arm things not work on them... ?
[It's the only thing she's seen him do, and she's incorrectly assumed it was also his Acata power- that or something similar. Not that she gets how magic works still, but-]
