[OPEN] Well. That Didn't Go Quite As Planned
Who: EVERYONE
Where: The Temple of Beginnings
When: Immediately After The End.
Rating: PG-13, may vary by thread
What: You fall, you pick yourself back up and you move on. Or at least, you try.
Fished Out Of Water
One minute, you are witnessing the fabric of an entire world implode as it is literally ripped apart by powers unknown. The next, that tell-tale twist somewhere beneath your sternum, before you are bodily YANKED away from Akvos, away from the ocean and the Queen and the King and the Princess.
And land back on (mostly) solid, dry ground.
Welcome back to the Temple of Beginnings. Don't worry, there's no hurry for you to get back up just yet.
Hey, Howya Doin'?
Once you do get back up, now is the time to be taking stock of the situation - yours, your friends, and even those new merfolk neighbours (who may need a hand getting their fins back into the water). There is also the missing members of the Circle to consider: people who disappeared on the journey to Akvos, and those who never made it back..
(There's also that small matter with a certain 'witchess-san' that may be a cause for concern to some more than others.)
Whatever the case, it's a lot to process right now. Take the time you have, because you don't know if it'll be enough for what you need.
[[ OOC: Here's an open post for threads reacting to the end of the Akvos world hop. Feel free to use the above prompts, and/or make your own! ]]

something latches onto him amdist the chaos. he whips his head around, and the figure and noises attached to it are instantly recognizable.
nier wraps his arms around konoha, pulling her into a tight embrace. a hand moves to brace the back of her head. ]
It'll be alright. We're safe.
[ he speaks gently in spite of the chaos around them; in spite of what he feels. ]

[It's Nier.
She hadn't noticed at first, just reaching out for the person nearest, but she's glad it's him. Glad he's alive, that after the screams and chaos of their escape from Akvos, and now, the chaos and confusion of their arrival to the Temple...
Her fingers tighten in his clothing, grip as she struggles to remember how to breathe air, too panicked to even feel embarrassed yet that in the process, she...
Sort of throws up a bit of seawater onto his shirt before she can gasp out intelligible words.]
What happened-
[How were they alive?]

The Rift — it closed in on us.
[ he doesn't know how else to explain that — how to explain this pestilent-like chaos. ]
You're safe. We're safe. I'm with you, alright?

But what about the rest of them? What about the merpeople? Konoha finally finds the strength to life her head, to look behind her as if they would be right there... But they aren’t. There’s a few, scattered amongst the group largely made of Circle members, but... the elderly she’d been helping. The children-
With a sense of impending horror, almost too afraid to look, Konoha’s eyes are finally pulled down to the makeshift seaweed sling across her chest.
The empty sling.]
Nier-
[Her voice is barely audible, fingers tightening so harshly in his clothes that her dark knuckles begin to whiten.]
Where’s the baby-
[But she already knows the answer.]

she asks him that question, and his heart is as heavy as lead, settling into his stomach like anchor. he hasn't feel this pressure, this sort of—
gods, what is this? he doesn't know. all he knows is that she's warm against him, and his blood is ice, and this dread, this dread inside him is so familiar, latching onto him like a parasite that drains the color from his face.
he stares at her wideyed before gently, quietly responding. ]
At peace.
[ his arms are still wound around her. his grip on her tightens. ]
I'm sorry. It's not your fault.

[At peace? It had been chaos and screams, blood and panic, and her hands begin to shake, her pupils to dilate and the color to drain from her face. The dead- The dead didn’t hurt, they didn’t suffer, they didn’t feel... but before that-]
Nier, no-
[For a moment it seems like she’ll reject the embrace, stumble up as if to look for the child she’d been minding for so long, to- to do anything, but then his arms are tighter around her and her tears fall heavy and hot and she can’t-]
What went wrong? Why- Why-
[It’s not her fault, she knows that. But was it theirs?]
no subject
was it really so futile — was every world just as hopeless as his own?
his grip loosens so he can escape his embrace, should she choose to. but for the meanwhile, a palm flattens along the back of her head. ]
We'll be back soon.
[ not home, but to the temple, which was close enough. ]
We'll be alright. This'll be over soon. I'm at your side, alright?
[ in a flash of blindingly bright light that phases through them, the world fades away. he feels like he's been whisked away through the air, off to a faraway land.
when he opens his eyes again, the rustic architecture of the temple surrounds them. ]
...Konoha?

Maybe it hasn't been good for a long time. Maybe she'd been deceiving herself, keeping herself so busy with tasks so that she wouldn't be able to notice. If she focused on the next small goal and then the next, she could be no better than a horse wearing blinders... because to remove them was to lose hope, to be swallowed up in the foreign mystery of magic and witches and worlds beyond her own.
And empty arms that had once cradled babes from a species not her own, in an ocean on a far off world that, once the bright lights die...
Doesn't exist anymore.
She hears her name, manages a nod of assent into Nier's chest, a mumbled, weak answer of attendance...
Before she just buries her face further into his clothing and begins to sob, curled over her arms that cradle nothing, rocking softly as if the broken lullaby would make it all better.]
