welcome to the horologium.

welcome to the horologium.
Some of you know it is coming. The World Jump, the chaotic thrust into a new universe. But some of you are new, and though you know what the mission is, it is a bit . . . troubling, sitting around and waiting for something to happen. But eventually, you get a message on your watch. It shows Astoria . . . dark hair framing her features, her voice light and musical. She sounds like herself, for the first time in some time . . . that spark of determination back in her eyes.

A MESSAGE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WITCH.
"It is time, my beloved Travelers, to go to our new destination . . . and I want you to know that I have the utmost faith in you. Akvos' loss has hurt us all, and I know that many of you doubt our mission. But please believe me when I say that you have done the best job anyone could ask of you. Akvos' destruction was not your fault . . . and to our newest members of our Circle, welcome to our journey. I can only hope that your journey here will work out to the benefit of us all."

That being said, you are journeying to the Horologium . . . it is a ship that has sent out a distress beacon. I am not sure when, or where, but I can feel great darkness, emanating from that place. I believe you all can combat what is done there, without interacting with the Void . . . so please, be safe, and I will see you all when you return."

And, just like that, there is a pull in your stomach . . . your vision blacks out and you feel the sudden sense of vertigo, a sensation of falling, and then . . . nothingness. You open your eyes, and you are suddenly waking up in the midst of . . . fog?

THE AWAKENING.
When you wake, you are greeted by metal — there’s an expanse of silver all around you. The cot you’re laying on is somewhat rigid, like a flattened wedge of cotton more than anything, encased in a capsule-like structure. Should you inspect your surroundings, you’ll find that there are three more cots in your room..or more notably, another person in the room in of itself. Depending on where you’ve been roused from your slumber, however, you’ll find that your circumstances differ.

➜ If you’ve woken up in the northeast wing of the ship, there seems to be a pool of saturated pink goo at your feet. It sticks to the bottom of your heel and collects at the very center of the room, oozing from the cracks and crevices within the metal lining of the walls. And even more notably, the goo has a particularly saccharine scent, as though it’s meant to be...consumed. Looks like you had the misfortune of waking up in the wing adjacent to the kitchen.

➜ In the northwest wing, the ship is functioning at an all time low. When you wake, the room is illuminated for a brief moment...before flickering out, only to leave you in pitch darkness. Power returns to the room intermittently and only for a few seconds at most, but it appears as though you and your newfound roommates will have to navigate the darkness if you want to leave.

➜ In the southwest wing, the fire alarm in your room has been activated for some inexplicable reason. It’s an obnoxiously loud siren that slices right through the whirring of the machinery around you — and it goes as far as to trigger the sprinklers hanging from the ceiling. Water sprays from above you, hopefully ensuring that you’ve woken up if nothing else has. It doesn’t seem to be draining either, so it may be for the best that you escape with some haste.

➜ In the southeast wing, your circumstances are for the most part rather unremarkable. An untouched room, mostly intact...until you try to open the door. It won’t budge — unless you have some form of super strength, your muscle power is rendered useless on its own. You might just have to commission someone else to help you...

Beyond your room, the word “Horologium.” stretches across the wall.

Welcome to your new home.

WHISPERS IN THE DARK.
In a way, it feels as though you’re suspended in time.

The ship is always humming, always whirring as it makes a haphazard attempt to function. The noise comes to a halt every so often, leaving you with nothing but silence and the idle creaking of the floor beneath you.

There are remarkably large, bright white doors that divide each and every wing. A circular window is positioned at the center of all 4 of these doors: but nothing can be seen through it. It’s likeness is that of a black hole’s, like someone had gone as far as to paint over it.

On every door, the same word is emblazoned in black lettering: EXIT.

Except the word itself appears to be scratched out to some degree — as though it were scrubbed out in a fit of desperation but remained no less.

When you see the door, you might be overcome with excitement. Or perhaps not. Regardless of what your reaction is like, the lights around you will dim and flicker at an alarming frequency. For a moment, it’s almost as though the gravity around you has slowed, and the hallways are becoming narrower by the second.. Voices and faces from the past emerge in your mind. You see someone you shouldn’t; they’re calling for you. They’re here with you right now, beckoning you to come closer...

If you reach the door and attempt to open it, it won’t budge. And the further you walk away from it, the more the effects will subside.

But there’s no telling if you’ll sleep well tonight.

INVESTIGATIONS
The ship is fitted to house approximately 500 people — it’s a bit of a ghost town, however, lived in but abandoned no less.

The chairs are in the mess hall aren’t aligned perfectly. The tables are a bit crooked. The lounge is lofty, but not pristine. The rooms may be barren, but it’s hard to shake the feeling that they were somehow someone else’s before they became yours. There’s an array of locked doors, varying in sizes and shapes, all of which withhold something potentially useful to you. You may be inclined to visit the lounge, the mess hall, rifle through the bedrooms . . . the ship is yours to explore.

However, how you interact with the ship is….entirely up to you. There is something to be found everywhere. Regardless of what you do, where you investigate and how, you might be tempted to look behind your shoulder.

After all, every decision you make matters...right?

(Every Player’s investigation prompt has the potential to differ greatly as your investigation will require mod input. We encourage you to ask as many questions as you would like, we are here to help and provide you with the information necessary.)

Additionally, please feel free to write up and work with your own prompts! These areas of the world are presented as jumping off points for your characters, not limitations. The idea of this world- as with all the others- is to explore -- you may use as much leeway as you want in order to come up with what your character will do.

If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them back on the various threads back in the OOC post from before!

[Even if he'd planned to do that, Maes is still honestly a little surprised with himself. Surprised, and a little pleased. He's come a long way with learning how to use this ability, that's for sure. Maes grins in return.]

I figured it would work. Normally when I want to teleport to people I go to them, but I had a feeling that I could make it work the opposite way as well.

[There's a soft "ohhhhh" behind him as Molly trails along. That he gets. Some of the performances in the circus could get a little creepy, because scary sells, but it's a little bit hard to convey casual cannibalism in a limited performance space. And he doesn't read at all.

But he gets it now, even if stories don't compare to the madness that is actual adventurer life.]
When you've been to abandoned places full of ghosts and met actual monsters... You always need to ask.

Hmm, it sounds like you live a pretty interesting life, then... [Or lived before coming here, but Ren's trying not to imply the lack of knowledge on when they'll be going back to those lives.] I guess I've seen a little bit of weirdness too, but I'd be pretty surprised if there was anyone here who hadn't seen at least something that everyone else here would think was weird.

[There's another corridor coming up, and it sounds a little bit like there's something faintly echoing down it - a lot like the sounds that normally come from the lounge area, in fact.]

Complicated is right. It's all politics. And Fae politics are a mess.

[He's come to realize this way too clearly in the past couple years.]

Your Family? [To Quentin that sounds like something more than just kin, right? Maybe? In fact,] That sounds a little mafia.

[Especially the until you're in a box part.]

That's really useful.

[Barabas nods, before adding.] Weird feeling though. But you must know that.

[The whole teleporting thing.]

It really is. And it's empty.

[The worst part. Because Astoria flung them here after a distress call. So who sent it?

Also he really is hoping there are no monstrous aliens or egg laying. Thank you.

But despite himself, Keith offers a smile at that answer.]

Yeah? Well, good. I think.

Maybe it's a generator. [A pause; this place is far too dimly lit for there to be a properly functioning generator in the wings. He smiles at the thought.] ... A generator operating on pizza dough for fuel. Which is to say, a disaster.

[Maybe it's not a generator after all. He spoke before he thought.]

But. Why do you think the crew of this ship would bait us into arriving, darling...? That sounds awfully suspicious!
lonered: (S802)

[personal profile] lonered 2019-03-17 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I wonder if we're that lucky.

[For it to be a generator. But that'd be good news anyway.] Whatever it is, we're lucky there's enough power for some lights and life support.

[Small favors, he supposes.

He hesitates as he considers how to best answer that question without sounding terribly pessimistic. Except nope, there's no way not to sound exactly as cynical as he is sometimes.]
I don't. But whatever made them disappear might want to.

That's right, I'm from their reality. Keith and I jointly lead our team. [His grin grows wider, anyone that knows his team is someone to take note of.]

I'm Shiro, former Black Paladin turned Black Lion.

[After having to fight to convince Hank that he was a gangster at all, Firo almost smiles to hear Quentin on the right track. Almost, because there's a very important distinction. He shakes his head:]

We're Camorra. It's a different organization.

[To an outsider's perspective, though, they are very similar--hence why Firo is so insistent on the terminology.]
blindfoster: (human07)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-18 02:00 am (UTC)(link)
Camorra?

[Quentin repeats, like he's trying out the word.] I've never heard of that, but that's probably not super surprising. But... same idea anyway? So you're like a gangster?

[Firo is much cuter than the idea of gangster in Quentin's mind, but hey. He's seen small cute people who are terrifying so.]

[ Zero grimaces almost like a fragile animal that's just been struck– angry, hurt and ready to bite back. The spiteful part of her wants to say that she is fortunate, that she only thinks that way because she's lead a blissful existence.

But a larger part of her curbs that inclination. Because Zero is many things, but she will never be someone who actively seeks to destroy the good in other people. ]

.. Okay.

[ Is all she says, finally. She looks exhausted, like managing that took more willpower than she'd had in her. ]

Better make sure it tastes good. I'm not going to haul ass over to the other side of this stupid ship to eat garbage.
foundafamily: (v pleased with himself)

[Firo smooths out the front of his jacket and nods.]

Exactly. I run my Family's casino back home.

Whatever made them...

[Disappear. Well of course there has to be some reason they're gone. Mettaton tries to recall what Astoria told them before their arrival.]

Could that be the "Void" Astoria mentioned? Not that I trust her judgement... Maybe that's why they're gone! Unless there's something more.
blindfoster: (fae06)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-18 07:40 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah see? That's also adorable. Quentin is developing a whole new image of gangsters now. Go figure.]

Huh! That's... actually pretty cool.

[Illegal, right? And his little law and order and hierarchy self has that thought, but for now he shrugs it off.]
lonered: (11)

[personal profile] lonered 2019-03-18 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)
[They're making progress towards the mess hall even as they're talking. Keith is quiet for a long moment as he forces himself to consider the void. Memories of Akvos surge up and he shakes his head.]

It could be. We don't exactly know enough about it to say for sure. Astoria doesn't exactly provide much detail.

[Keith trusts neither Astoria's judgment, nor Astoria.]

[Before Mettaton can reply next, his heel makes a harsh sound like metal against metal as he fails to lift it with his next step and instead drags it against the floor. He smiles wryly at the discordant noise. Stupid water.]

...Ha. Yes. More elaboration on her part would have been... appreciated. [With a darker edge, he adds:] And a bit more discretion. Such as placing robots in places without water pouring from the ceiling. We should be given a more thorough run-down before being sent off. I'm a master at improvising... but I can't say the same for everyone.

[And this isn't theater. This is the livelihood of another world.]
formleg: (Default)

[personal profile] formleg 2019-03-19 02:14 am (UTC)(link)
[He sets his equipment down for a moment, having to think about that one.
He'd probably be able to explain it better if Keith had taken the time to lay out the story -- mostly they'd been in a rush to do other things and there hadn't been the time to tell it properly. Hunk hadn't really asked about it sense. Maybe he should.
]

I think it was more...time passed for him at a different rate. So maybe calling it time travel is misleading. I just know that from our point of view, it was only a few months. Keith, however, spent a few years traversing the area near that star. So when we met back up he was a few years older.

You don't have to "disappear into the void" for something to happen to you! There could've been... I don't know, a serial killer or something! [Did she just jump to the most dramatic possibility? Yes. Yes she did.]

Is there a door?
formleg: (I Thought it Was Pretty Clear)

[personal profile] formleg 2019-03-19 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
[Hunk nods. He'd been worrying about that himself.]

I'm trying to imagine they all just evacuated. I don't think we've found any signs of escape pods or ships or anything...but it's a possibility. We DID just get here, so maybe we'll find out they sent that distress call and then just booked it out of here.

[He chuckles nervously as if to say 'and won't we feel silly then.' He knows it is a long shot though. Why would you send a call like that and then leave? What would be the point? And it wasn't like they'd seen any indication of planets nearby.]
foundafamily: (Default)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-03-19 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Very illegal.

If Firo could sense any thought akin to "adorable", his reaction would be very different. But he can't, and so he simply basks--and beams, and maybe blushes just a little--in the thought that, hell yeah, somebody thinks he's cool! It's not something you get often as a mobster who very much doesn't look like a tough guy.]

Yeah, well--my Family taught me a lot. I started out working there years ago.
thedarkbond: (darkveil)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-03-19 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that would be kind of boring to start with... [Serial killers are overrated. In other words, Ren's seen too many horror movies for this business.

Ren takes a few steps to the right, where he remembers the doorway having been when the lights came on, and sure enough, he walks forward through it without issue.]
It's right here--oh...

[Most of the area beyond seems to still be dark, but there's a faint pinprick of light in the distance to their right.] Maybe we should go that way.
mollymocked: to the beat i drum (⚔ and i'm marchin' on)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-03-19 06:46 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, there's not really a whole lot of normal people. [He sounds a bit wistful about it.] It's kind of refreshing, actually.

[Oh is that the sound of freedom? Molly breathes a sigh of relief, and then goes into overwrought theatrics.] Civilization! At long last! By god, we're free from this madness.
dadandgone: (Well That's Just Weird)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2019-03-19 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Just call me the living embodiment of an Emergency Exit. I do need to work on getting to know new Circle members though as they arrive. The more people I can make this power work with, the more beneficial it could be. Otherwise, I would have to rely on touch which in certain situations could be a problem. Not to mention the distance can be an issue -- I spent a good portion of our time in Akvos trying to get to people but it was pretty useless since we were so far apart and I didn't have anything to go on.

[He's starting to appreciate a little more Shiro's insistence that they practice with their abilities and learn the limitations to work around.]

You get used to that feeling.
blindfoster: (human13)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-20 12:41 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, not his kingdom not his worry at least? Maybe. Not that he's king yet anyway, but still.

And looking tough means nothing in the world of Faerie. The strongest, scariest being that Quentin knows spends most of her time looking like a teenage girl with pigtails.]

I've really only seen movies about that sort of thing before. Isn't it dangerous though?
