I think they have to be somewhere...even if something had hurt them, they wouldn't have entirely vanished, right? [Not to mention that it does seem like the place is a little bit too pristine overall to have been abandoned for too long a time. Then again, that might just be because it's a spaceship.]

Maybe they're on the lower bit where the big noise is coming from.
