[ Granted, Simon agrees with him, that being human is the clearly superior experience. And from the WAU’s treatment of human minds, and bodies, in its attempt to revive the near-extinct species... and the blasé way the YoRHa androids described having their memories put into new bodies when their old ones became too damaged... he’d already gathered that robots don’t seem to have the same hangups humans do.

But it had always been more complicated than that. Human and robot weren’t really compatible states, always a question of teetering sanity, loss of identity. To Mettaton, apparently, it’s no more of a threat to his sense of self than going on vacation and just deciding to stay. He’s never seen it go the other way before, though, and he can’t help but come around to Mettaton’s enthusiasm, grinning, lifting and dropping one shoulder in a half-shrug that concedes his point. ]

Yeah, there’s a lot to it. When I didn’t need to do human stuff anymore, I had no idea how to fill the extra time. And I can feel things again. I mean, I have skin. [ a beat, and then, emphatically: ] I really missed food.
