What: The Circle gets together for some research on what this place is all about. Please treat this like a mingle log--feel free to put up a starter and tag around!

The Library (hopefully) promises to have the answers that the Welcome Committee and the general robot on the street don't. Characters can access the information by computer, and the Library has just about everything that's happened in Struxta.

That's thousands of years of information to wade through, so get to work!

staring at the machinery like he expects it to bite him or firo any second now - it has happened before, back on m.shelley station. - daylight approaches one of the many databases at hand to begin. ]

Er... right... [ give him a sec to figure out how any of this works while he scoots forwards to take reins, so to speak. (dialup?? where are you when daylight needs you??)

while he attempts to start working on the thing, hoping to bring something up that looks like a user interface he could hopefully work with, a question has now come to mind- ]

What are you hoping to find, exactly? [ daylight knows he wants to learn more about the mass subconscious thing but it's just occurred to him now that, well, not everyone is going to be interested in it. ]

Wouldn't be my first time either.

[Waver's pretty damn proud of that fact, if his boast is anything to go by.]

Ummm...! [ uh oh. caught redhanded.

daylight looks pretty guilt when he looks behind him, trying to get a better look at the person peering over his shoulder and to flash the guiltiest expression he could muster. he had stopped looking for information for a while now, having become too distracted preoccupied in fiddling with his watch to check messages from others.

and yet he still feels complied to answer her question: ] There's a lot of stuff here...?

They're, um, very dutiful in recording and storing information. Like, weirdly so.

That's what we all want to find out. Where do you think you could stumble upon some clue of it? If you don't mind I would like to search for the more or less recent nature catastrophes. Not that I am a fan of disasters, it's just that I have enough of wars.

[At first Tyrion had wanted to take a closer look of the local legends and myths since in them was usually more truth than in any of the gossips going around. But he knew that he could get lost easily in legends of foreign countries and therefore he wouldn't be of much use when it came to active research.]

[Waver pauses, and leans over to see what's being looked at.]

You find anything interesting so far?

[He tries to listen, he really does, but most of that is going right over his head.]

Yeah, I didn't get any of that.

What do you think the sky means?

[There's so much here that doesn't make sense that he hadn't really thought on it too hard. He's been spending a lot of time indoors anyway.]

[He stops in the middle of carefully backspacing his search to begin again.]

You think they're that different from us in how they think about things?

[He's been having a hell of a time, but he'd chalk that all up to himself being stupid--not the androids being different.]

[Through it all, Firo will lean in and watch Daylight so closely, as if hoping the great mystery of this technology will be unlocked just by observing Daylight. Surely the huge metal guy has to know this stuff, right?]

Me? They said there were "makers," so I wanted to find out what happened to them. If they all got murdered, it doesn't exactly look good for us.

[That's followed by something between a snort and a laugh. What a situation to be in.]

[Please, Tyrion, as if Firo would actually have a plan?

I hadn't really thought about that part. I didn't think they'd keep records of everything.

[He says with some bitterness--bunch of jerks.]

Let's start with that--what do you think would happen here? I didn't see any damage from an earthquake or a fire...

[She's still not entirely used to this, but the climate control and chairs go a long way towards comfort, enough that the strangeness of reading things off a glowing screen is starting to wear off.

She smiles as she glances over at Eliza.] Time to rest your eyes, isn't it? Do you want to take a quick walk outside? I think a change in atmosphere might be good.

[Everything about this place was deeply strange, and the local Struxta version of a library is an entirely new experience for her. Despite the help from other members of the Circle, she was still not familiar with accessing information using the devices that were built so deeply into every part of the daily life of the native Struxtan people.

Rather than looking for something in particular, she's taking her time to explore. Browsing all the information available and looking for things that catch her eye, as much out of whimsy, instinct, and random chance as out of any categorical delving into the depths of the information that must exist here. She had her own thoughts about what would be useful, or what kinds of research should be done, but for now she was indulging herself.

She leans back in her chair with a sigh. The next item she selects looks like a piece of music, and she hums to herself, eyes running over the lines of text on the screen, making a guess at meter and rhyme. The descriptions were...evocative, though still undeniably alien, and she wonders how much of it is lost in translation... and how much of it is by design.]

Yeah, and get some fresh air. Or however fresh it is out there.

I think maybe the sky got polluted and that played a role in everything dying.

Oh, um, not really? But it looks like whenever the organic life died, it was a longgg time ago.

[There was... much less wandering than Nihuang had anticipated here, unless the thing to wander was the mind. Although Aunt Jing seems to be engaged with the document on her screen, Nihuang has had a fair amount of difficulty narrowing down her... query. She peeks at her aunt again, then leans down to peer at the floating stanzas in her hands.

No wonder she was wearing such an expression. She brings up her own wrist as a test, but,]

... the translator doesn't work very well here, does it.

Hm. How long is long though? Is it the kind of long that's better suited for being described by geological epochs?

[He frowns, thinking it over--her idea doesn't seem all that unfamiliar for someone who grew up in the tenements.]

Is that kinda thing enough to wipe out a whole bunch of people? They say the air makes people sick where I'm from, but most people don't die.

[Some do. But only a subset.]

Yeah, I miss regular libraries too; there's nothing like them.

I suppose it would be even more impossible if we didn't have a way to automatically sort through these, though. The sheer volume of information stored...I wonder how they decide what's kept or not?

[Tyrion chuckled. He knew what the people of Westeros were keeping track of, so it wasn't too absurd to think that this was something the citizens of others worlds were doing too.]

I would say, that we shall bet that we might stumble upon some things you would never suspect, what people write down, so other generations can read them.

Maybe they have found was to conceal the damages? I mean this world is all synthetic ... that's the right word for it am I right? I've heard others use this word when talking about Struxta.

[She pushes back her own chair, rising up to her feet.] This place is so clean. But it is a little unsettling not to see plants and other living things.

[She glances over at Nihuang and smiles, shaking her head.] I don't know if it's the translation or the writing itself. Or perhaps there's even more translation in these works than we're assuming to be the case.

I don't know how well the translation that Lady Astoria provides would deal with something written by a non-native in the first place, for example.

[Nerd. Firo raises an eyebrow, briefly, because missing the library is totally not what he meant, but he'll let it slide for now.

The question, however, gets a snort.]

Who says they decided anything? Look at this place--they must never throw anything out.

[Firo shrugged.]

I'm the wrong guy to ask about words.

Whatever it is, it's a weird place, huh? I've spent my whole life in the city, but it wasn't like this.

[ that's an easy enough question for daylight to answer- ]

The Mass Subconscious. It seems to be a big part of their society so I wanna learn more about. How it works. Why is works. Stuff like that.

[ all the while he begins to fiddle with the user interface, pressing buttons and moving through screens without really attempting to explain what he's doing for poor firo's sake.

oh. wow. wooooow. they could give whitecrest and dialup a run for their money. ] This might take a while. Maybe... a few hours, tops? And that's for scratching the surface of the surface too.

Might be a while before we can find any juicy info about murdered creators. [ he smiles, trying to sell the joke, but there's an anxious quality to the way his winglets flutter. ]
