Library Mingle Log

Who: Everyone!
Where: The Library
When: Throughout their time in Struxta
Rating: PG, will edit if this changes
What: The Circle gets together for some research on what this place is all about. Please treat this like a mingle log--feel free to put up a starter and tag around!

The Library (hopefully) promises to have the answers that the Welcome Committee and the general robot on the street don't. Characters can access the information by computer, and the Library has just about everything that's happened in Struxta.

That's thousands of years of information to wade through, so get to work!

[ooc: As it says above, please feel free to put up your own starter and tag around! Characters can have heard others chatting about the library or been told about it by the Welcome Committee or have just wandered in. If you come across anything of interest that you'd like me to edit into or link in the main post, please just let me know.]

Yeah... [ he laughs, flustered but happy. ] I find myself wishing the others were here too. They'll be a great help right now.

[ example: dialup and their amazing data management programs going through the library's records. they wouldn't be occasionally squinting at the screens like a total dummy as is the case with daylight here.

when he hears the question, he pauses. considers his reply. ]
Ummm... Kind of? I have a faint idea of what the procedures and stuff are but, ah, executing them? Not so much.

Admittedly, I haven't seen a lot of action since I joined.

[ he is trying so very hard to keep the pouting out of his voice. he is. (and it's not working.) ]

My handbag is pretty heavy, but that's it.

I'm considered too young. [ here, he puffs out his cheek, clearly annoyed by that.

judging by the errant flicks to his winglets, day is no doubt thinking about all the times the 'too young' card was pulled on him during adventures. ]
I'm just a hundred-and-eight, so I'm the youngest one on the ship.

[ meaning there are times he gets treated like a beeper. even by nightbreak and dialup! urgh! ]

They're not threatened by us. Probably because they barely even remember what organic life is. It just... doesn't even seem important to them.

[She comments broodingly, exasperated that this is even a real situation that they're in.]

[She perks up slightly at the idea -- or at least seems a little less sad.]

That's true. It's just too bad... even with my full powers, there's so much glass and metal and pavement here that I don't think my search would have gone any better. I guess I was hoping that maybe someone here had more luck finding real life.

[Instance is probably a technical term here, right? She has no idea.

Even though her own search has been more for what happen to organic life, one phrase catches her eye though...]

Mass subconscious? Of what?

But only if it can connect to a central resource, correct? Or else you wouldn't be able to access the information you need for your work.

I know the food and drink here are not the best but what about a little snack? Slowly I am getting hungry. [Tyrion's surprised that he was actually really hungry and not just wanting to eat because it has been a couple of hours since he had the meal.]

Too bad there are not parks here 'cause I would have suggested taking the food with us and sit there for a while. Man, what would I give to sit somewhere where there are trees and green grass. In the capital we had a wonderful garden with lots of exotic flowers.

I'll keep it in mind.

We've got ways to do that at home. I can connect to computers on the other side of the planet if I have to.

[ ... that... that makes sense. it makes a lot of sense, considering how it was important to prove's yourself and your worth to an established group.

but he wishes it didn't make sense in his pouting thinking. mostly because it means it'll be a long, long time before he and the others in fireteam trialblazer would be taken seriously by the others on the lornful light. siiiiigh. ]

When it came to you working with your family- [ not with a capital f. mostly because poor daylight, sheltered as ever, is thinking of this business being an actual sort of mom and pop business. like what mr. darrison had when the old man was still kicking. ] -how many 'years' were 'years' for you until you started getting more serious jobs? Two years? Three years? Four years?

[ please don't give an answer that has it in the double digits. day may or may not got nuts in that moment. ]

The Welcoming Committee didn't tell you about the Mass Subconscious yet? [ he looks at her, helm tilted to the side. his stare is not incredulous, really. more puzzled than anything else.

he supposes it makes sense that not everyone will ask about it when they're here in the city. doesn't sound exciting unless you're actively looking for the thing and with everything else available? definitely going to pale in comparison to things like the races and the merchant district and stuff. ]
Um- It's basically what has everyone who is native in the city connected together. They share everything with each other.

And I mean everything: Their feelings. Their thoughts. I think even their memories, if I'm remembering my talk with them correctly.

I'm used of being surround by nature. The only time I was somewhere where there was next to no nature, was when I was at the Wall. But you could see the forest from the top of it.

[Even this place was more to his liking that the world they had landed on. It wasn't the first spot in Westeros he would choose to live but would prefer it over the Nations of Struxta at any time.]

You know the absence of any weather is eerie. No sun, no wind. Well I doubt that rain is a thing here because of all the technology. [At least there was a visible change of day and night. A small consolation but still one.]

[Well look, we all have our own priorities to ask about here. She listens to the explanation thoughtfully.]

So it's like... well, never mind. [Even if the Green existed here there's no point explaining it to him.] Did you try joining it? It has to be better than reading about it from a terminal, right?

But even being able to connect to those computers doesn't guarantee that the information you will find is correct, isn't that true?

Sure, but it's the same with books. You just need to keep a critical eye on the research you read.
