What: The Circle gets together for some research on what this place is all about. Please treat this like a mingle log--feel free to put up a starter and tag around!

The Library (hopefully) promises to have the answers that the Welcome Committee and the general robot on the street don't. Characters can access the information by computer, and the Library has just about everything that's happened in Struxta.

That's thousands of years of information to wade through, so get to work!

Oh! Right! Sorry about that. [ daylight needs to remember that not everyone knows binary basics or binary babble.

he turns to meddy and asks them to explain what they’re finding so far. in return, daylight finds himself getting a series of worried trills and beeps from his companion. meddy certainly sounds agitated. not scared, but definitely worried to the point of alarm. the poor bot needs a vacation after this.

it must be something big because daylight’s optics grow wide, blooming with light. he needs a moment to compose himself, not wanting to make firo worry. ]

Okay… So… This is a medical report, basically. A super condensed version of a medical report but a medical report all the same. [ he pauses, listening ] It’s talking about the aftermath of some sort of plague. The statistics of how many people died and how many are still recovering and the methods they’re considering to prevent this from happening. Things like that.

[His eyes almost start to glaze over at "medical report," because that sounds boring as hell, but he manages to steel himself to listen since Daylight is going through the trouble of telling him.]

Sounds like fun reading. So I'm gonna guess it's pretty bad by your reaction, huh? How bad? Like 1918?

[He was only 6 at the time and doesn't remember much of it, but he does remember that it was Bad, even by the standards of the slums that were always dealing with deadly illnesses.]

... 1918? [ daylight tilts his helm to the side, obviously confused by the reference firo is trying to use here.

this sounds like a difference in worlds' history, daylight thinks. the most memorable thing that happened in 1918 for daylight's world was the dust storms that ravished the old farmlands and turned them into-

Um... Yeah. It's bad. Real bad. [ he looks back to meddy for confirmation. the little drone repeats a series of beeps and boops at him. ] Bad enough that it hit the population hard. Almost wiped them out? I think?

There was a bad flu.

[Which is kind of an understatement, but at least the human population didn't get wiped out. He winces.]

Sounds like this one might be worse. Sure explains something about this place.

[He considers Meddy and Daylight.]

Do you guys get sick?

[ meddy and daylight share a look now, a little unsure of how to answer it. ]

... Meddy can't, from what I can tell. They have a lot of programs and firewalls that protect them from viruses and stuff.

[ and on the other hand- ] I can get sick but it's something I need to avoid at all costs. It's always, like, super bad if it happens.

[ as in 'a matter of life or death, seriously' type of bad. his systems are... weird, to explore the long and short of it. he's a mishmash of humanoid and mechanoid organs and parts, a delicate balance of two systems that have no business being in the same place, let alone work in tandem. so if something goes wrong than it goes wrong as it causes a sort of chain reaction of bad reactions.

yeah... not something he'd recommend. ]

[Oh, this is just perfect. Firo stares at them both, then shakes his head and looks away. Perfect.]

Are you kidding me? What's "super bad" mean? Are you gonna drop dead if you catch a cold?

[Sickness is just a way of life, but... he doesn't so much like people he's involved with being affected by it.]

....Possibly. [ daylight winces, while he speaks.

meddy gives a little worried noise, realising that daylight is recalling the really bad instance of falling sick when he and his friends were stranded in a planet. one that was undergoing a severe dust storm, causing his systems to panic and breakdown. ] It's happened before.

If I get sick, weird stuff goes down because my internals are.... weird.

[ yeah... weird... let's go with that. ]

Sounds complicated.

[Firo doesn't really know anything about medicine or caretaking, so he won't press for details--they wouldn't make him any more able to help if something did happen to Daylight.]

You'd better watch it. It sounds like this-- [He flicks his fingers dismissively at the article Daylight and Meddy were reading from.] --is ancient history, but that doesn't mean you won't pick something else up. I don't even know if I could heal somebody like you.

[Has he mentioned his power to Daylight? Probably not, but he doesn't keep track of these things one way or the other. The important thing is that he doesn't want him getting sick; he knows from both of his parents that it's all too likely to lose someone from things like that. And how likely is it that Astoria has medicine back at the temple?]

Trust me- I'll do my best to not get sick! [ daylight promises, touched by the concern that firo is showing for him and his (admittedly fragile) health.

something about firo reminds him of emergency aid, in a way. a little gruff and rough around the edges. pretty stoic, but having a good heart underneath all stoic gruff roughness.

plus healing powers? that's just neat and fitting, if you asked him! ]

Promise you won't get sick in return? [ daylight's optics go back to report, and his happy expression dims when he rereads some of the paragraphs. he notices some words stand out to him - words that make him worry a lot. ] It seems to affect mostly organics and pretty badly too, if the statistics are to be believed.

I don't know how this will affect me, but I don't want anything to happen to you or anyone else.

[The smile that had come onto Firo's face at Daylight's response falters--he can't make a promise like that. Anyone can get sick at any time--or knifed, or hit by a car, or anything.]

Don't worry about me--I don't get sick easy.

[After outliving two parents with TB and showing no sign of the disease himself, Firo's pretty optimistic about his immune system. He shrugs one shoulder and forces the smile back on his face. From the firmness in his tone, he's saying the next bit as much for himself as for Daylight:]

We'll be fine or we won't. Aside from taking precautions where we need to, there's no point in worrying about it now.

[He is worried. But he reminds himself that this report is probably old. They haven't seen any signs of sickness, so... so far so good?]
