It’s something to latch onto while Simon dances around the thoughts he doesn’t want gaining purchase, as he does — shoving them out of rotation with the ones that would be important assuming this were the horrible thought experiment he’s now decided that it is. Against the insurmountable fact that he can’t be sure because 2B isn’t here, denial piles up so fast it’s beneath his conscious awareness. Where it will stay, intact, for... ever, if he can help it.
