( world #2 - the storm. )

a storm approaches. This log is for everyone who signed up for The Storm investigation. Feel free to use the here to plot further on how you plan on approaching The Storm, and the issue. The mod questions thread is also open, if you have anything you would like to run by us.

the investigation.
It takes a day of preparation, and a day of discussion, before you are led further down into the tunnels. It's pitch black, but one of the BGs who you have become familiar enough with turns on a low light and continues further. You walk for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, and then turn a corner into a large, open cavern. The BG explains that at one time, this had been an underground transportation system - old and unused for centuries, now, but still in working order.

They file each of you onto a single car - it seems to be large enough to fit nearly a hundred, possibly more, bodies - so everyone has a space. The BG explains that they have already input the coordinates into the system, and that once they close the door, you will be transported to the last known location. The car will be programmed to wait for 72 hours, and then will return to this location. There is food and water supplied, and already packed, in the car. If you are not back in the car by that time, it will leave you behind. They then give their farewells, thank you for your help and readiness, and step away from the door - letting it close behind them. The car travels down a pitch black tunnel, and while the inside is dimly lit enough for the Circle Members to see each other and move around without hinderance, you can see nothing through the windows. It continues for a few hours at this rate - nothing to see, no idea where you are going. That is, until it seems to break through the surface, the track running through buildings and another, unknown area of the city.

The streets and buildings are abandoned, the tech old and outdated, windows broken out and dust filling the street. The sky, like back in the city you knew before, is cloudy and grey. But these clouds are different - these clouds are dark in a way you haven't seen before. You travel for another half hour above ground before the cart comes to a stop, and during this time it happens twice. A low rumble, seeming to come from everywhere at once, and then a few heartbeats after, a disasterous flash of lighting - miles away, yes, but threatening and gigantic, brighter and more violent than you've ever seen lightning before. The crash shakes the ground under you, and the damage is immense.

But the buildings are abandoned, the streets empty save for crates, old mechanical bits, dusty remnants of a society long forgotten by the Struxta you came from just a couple of days prior.

This is The Storm you've been warned about.
the storm.
You have been asked to find out information that will help the BG's, and Struxta, to stop The Storm.

From what you can gather, it does seem to be a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, as far as weather systems seem to work on this planet. However, rather than scattered thunder and lightning strikes, it seems to almost recharge and strike with epic proportions. It can damage, or destroy, buildings. It shorts out any and all items (and people) who depend on electricity in any form to function (Sorry Daylight and Conner, sorry to anyone who brought along technology) within a three mile radius.

The 'darkness' the BGs were talking about does follow this storm, but they seem to have been referring to this electrical shortage that comes from the storm and it's strikes. If this storm does reach any of the still-occupied areas of the city, it will shut down the entire grid, as well as any of the robots, androids, or electrically based figures that exist there - essentially ending the life of every Struxta citizen that is effected.

Plot, plan, theorize, and see if you can find a way to stop The Storm. If not, be back on the train car in 72 hours time, to return to the BGs and report what you have found.
PROMPT IDEAS
1.) Discussions on the train - do you have any ideas for what to prepare? Any discussions you may want to have? You and your fellow Circle Members are caught here together for a few hours, driving into a situation you know very little about. What do you want to make sure you're prepared to handle?

2.) Scouting missions - the heart of The Storm is very much in the distance, and it is not moving quickly, giving Circle Members plenty of time to set out and check out the surrounding city. What you will find won't be much - this is a robotic ghost town in every turn of the phrase. Buildings have been abandoned for hundreds of years, covered in dust and left entirely undisturbed, except for the breeze that now seems to flit through this entire area. There are stores, warehouses, apartments, and buildings you can't even tell what they were used for, cleared out. Whenever, or whoever, lived in this part of Struxta had evacuated, quickly but efficiently.

3.) The Storm - The Storm is still a distance away from where the cart has dropped you off, enough that when your 72 hours are up, the heart of the storm and the lightning strikes shouldn't reach the car, or the track. This does mean that to do any closer investigation, you will need to go to The Storm itself. But be careful - the electrical output from these lightning strikes are dangerous, and can have all sorts of effects on both natural and mechanical beings. The wind, the closer you get to The Storm, will also pick up - making any kind of flying or air travel impossible.

4.) Planning - the car leaves everyone off at an old train station, which a large room attached. This room can be used as a kind of home base, as well as a meeting location. What do you plan on doing? Simply taking down information, or trying to take the storm head on? How do you plan on doing that? Will your abilities help? This room attached onto the train station is a safe location - no effects of The Storm will make it inside. Use as you would like!

i love daylight so much oh my goodness

[personal profile] sendinthecavalry 2018-08-03 04:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Daylight's sudden appearance doesn't even phase Cayde, in fact if anything he's somewhat delighted to meet someone else with a less-than-human visage. It's the sudden malaise that starts to creep in that concerns him; it's just a general sensation of something wrong, of unfounded anxiety, of overwork, and it's weird. Maybe the storm had done more damage than he'd originally thought, because this wasn't normal.

He bucks up though, nodding and reaching out to start erasing a few lines near the 'race' section of the impromptu map.]

Fair enough, you wanna fill that in then, buddy?
sunborne: (045. - 🔥 - SCUFFED.)

i'm super excited for this thread, eeee \ o /

Um-! Sure! Yeah!

Give me a second to- You know. Get into position. [ given his height and mass, daylight needs to curl up within himself before he feels like he can reach over and begin to add his additions to the map.

he begins to doodle on the buildings and passages that are missing, the ones he's gotten a chance to become well acquainted with during his time here in the city. he does not skimp on the details either, given his artistic side. daylight takes his time to draw out the passages and buildings and routes. heck, he does his best to recreate the signs on the buildings.

the more daylight focuses on the map, daylight's emission field begins to ease up on its intensity and its type of emotions. it slowly switches from exhaustion to concentration, uncertainty to confidence. ]

Take all the time you need, big guy. [Really, really big guy if he's being honest. It's impressive, really.

But Cayde skirts to the side to give his new mechanical friend all the room he can. The train station isn't entirely roomy, but with enough finangling he's able to squeeze himself to the side so he can keep an eye on the map.

Whatever strangeness that had suddenly fallen over him is still concerning, but as time goes on he finds that he's bothered less and less by it; so much so that in the end the discomfort has been momentarily forgotten in favor of appreciating Daylight's artistic talents.

With a low whistle he leans in, studying the new additions.]

Good memory you got there.

[ can you believe daylight - who is at a whopping ten feet in height - is considered rather small for his galateion type? because he's small for his galateion type. there's a very real chance he would not be allowed in the station if he was his dad's height.

in any case - daylight's winglets flick up the moment he hears of cayde's approval, the frame's kibble visibly fluttering in joy. his em field now shifts to flattered-happy-gratitude too, giddy and upbeat compared to the sluggish pace. ]
Thanks!

Auntie Chris taught me all she could about sketching and mapmaking while she was still alive. [ while adding his own flair to it, of course, if the level of detail he put to his parts of the map is anything to go by. ] You're pretty good at this yourself! Are you a cartographer back where you're from, by any chance?

Family, huh? [Though-] Sorry to hear the past tense on that, my condolences.

[Better to focus on the positive now though, because the oppressive atmosphere seems to be lifting and he's not keen on doing anything that could ruin this. Not when he's starting to finally feel a little better, and not when his new robotic comrade-in-arms seems to actually be perking up.]

That's a good question though. Tell you what, first off I don't think we've had a proper introduction, big guy. I'm Cayde-6, great to meet you. And no, I don't do a lot of the proper map drawing back home. Scouting for it, yes. I'm not quite a picasso though.
sunborne: (091. - 🔥 - CHEERS.)

[ daylight flaps his hand in the air - trying to convey a 'it's cool, it's cool' gesture because auntie chris has been dead for a long, long time and he's used to the sting in his core whenever he thinks of them - but then he stops.

his train of thought literally comes screeching to a halt because of something cayde - cayde-6? is it important to add the number in? - said. did he mention- ]

Scouting? You're a scout too? As in 'look around and search the area' sort of scout? That's awesome! [ the more he speaks, the higher his pitch gets. somehow, someway.

his emission field is a whiplash of emotions, quickly shifting to excitement-giddiniess-hihihihi!! at the drop of a dime. perhaps best examplified by his next breathless set of words: ]
I'm a scout too! What terrain do you like exploring the most? I think desert biomes are pretty neat, even if the sand gets caught in the seams since the sun makes the dunes look like gold and-

Oh! I'm Daylight, by the way. Daylight vis Lornlit. I actually have a longer name but it's way too long in my opinion so it's', like, a super bore to say so feel free to just call me 'Daylight' or 'Day' or whatever version you like, alright? Right!

[ is he missing something?

oh! yeah- ]

Hi!! [ and some excited winglet wiggles are thrown in because!! hello!!! ]

[personal profile] sendinthecavalry 2018-08-18 02:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Cayde is focused on the drawings, and while momentarily distracted by Daylight's gesture he's almost deep in thought until there's a sudden metaphorical explosion of energy and excitement coming from the kid. It takes a minute for him to even begin to process what's going on, and in that time he just blinks owlishly a few times before laughing under his breath. His mouth lights flash warmly, the best approximation of a smile he can give, and he seems to settle back a little bit more, growing a bit more comfortable with everything.]

Really now? [There's a definite tinge of amusement in his voice.] Alright, slow down just a sec, slow down, slow down. Daylight. Huh, that's definitely a new one, good name. Pleasure to make your acquaintence, or however the posh people like to say it.

[This is...actually really cool. Cayde's gotten used to the idea of different worlds and different realities by now, but it's nice to find someone from the Circle who seems to be in at least sort of the same line of work. Definitely not completely similar, but if he squints real hard it works. Kind of.]

That's a good question, though. [He crosses his arms and considers for a few seconds.] I suppose I like anywhere, s'long as I'm free to do what I want to do I'm happy. I gotta say though, there's this place out in Old Russia back where I'm from, real gorgeous. Snow, mountains, scrubland... Lots of old Golden Age tech, lots of places to get into, lots of places to hide things. And if you get up high enough? You get the best view of the stars this side of the moon.
sunborne: (093. - 🔥 - ARGUMENT.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-08-20 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry! Sorry sorry sorry— [ he coughs and tries his best to reset his vocoder, trying to calm himself down. (apparently robots of his stature and build can cough.)

apparently. ]
I just. I just- Wow. It’s been a while since I could talk about this stuff with someone else, you know?

[ he laughs, rubbing the back of his neck as his field shifts to something softer and warmer, fuzzy around the edges to matched his embarrassed, happily so, state. he feels silly but it is so worth it.

it is so, so worth it when he gets to hear about where cayde(-6?) is from. the imagery he gets from the way cayde is from is great. he can almost see it for himself - a chain of mountains that are capped with night bright snow. a labyrinth of technology dotted across the landscape, wreathed in weeds and vines thanks to mother nature and father time. it's enough to have him doodling this scene on the ground.

away from the map, of course. ]

I think this is the first time I’ve ever thought of the moon being cool! Or so pretty sounding. [ having lived on the moon for a while, he's forgotten the beauty of it after taking it for granted for so long. hearing someone else's view of it is amazing.

but... ]
Old Russia? [ that's what got his attention the most. ] Do you have a New Russia?

[ what happened to the old one? it makes him immediately think of 'new manila' and he's quick to dismiss that, mostly because that would mean the 'old' place would have been... yeah. ]
sendinthecavalry: (Default)

[personal profile] sendinthecavalry 2018-08-23 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's...honestly refreshing to know that someone is so into what he's saying, for once. The beauty and mystique of his homelands were often overlooked for the danger and ruin that overshadowed everything, but when all was said and done it was damn near artistic when one stopped and took a look around.]

I get it, believe me I really do. [There's another pulse of amusement from his lights, genuine and relaxed now that things have calmed down.] The moon itself? It's a cold place, dead, but damn if you don't get the best views.

[Hopefully they'd take it back someday. Then perhaps there would be more time to sit and stargaze. He's drawn out of his own thoughts, however, by the question and it takes more than a moment to try to understand what Daylight is even asking. Old Russia has always been Old Russia, and the idea that someone wouldn't know that had completely slipped his mind.] Ah, no. Just old like...it's been around for a long time? It's the topmost designation for the area I'm usually stuck around in. Think of it like continents, just a bunch of places all over Earth.
sunborne: (095. - 🔥 - STARSTRUCK.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-08-25 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah- I think the view you get there is the only redeeming qualities when it came to being stuck on the moon, you know? It can be real boring out there when it’s just rocks and stations, but when you get to see a star shower from there?

Almost makes it worth being there. [ almost. there’s a reason daylight left.

he looks down and shakes his helm, like it’ll help rid him of these rather uncool thoughts about his life before the circle, before the lornful light. daylight pretends it’s him taking stock of his doodlings so far.

which, to be fair, isn’t a lie because he’s now trying to assess his work so far. maybe he should ask the expert’s opinion on it… ]

Cayde- Is this an accurate depiction of Old Russia?

[ it seems daylight took the concept of nature taking over old technology and ran with it.

he managed to draw a landscape of a city that’s become one with the earth, remnants of a once great civilisation now having been reclaimed by mother nature. buildings, weathered and worn, are wrapped in an explosion of vines and a bloom of flowers. cars are hidden by foliage and trees and bushes. he’s managed to draw some billboards here and there, taking time to wipe away words and draw cracks and tears where a message would once be. ]

Is there an Old New York then? An Old Renise? An Old Chicago? How old is old where you’re from? [ it’s been fascinating to hear about the worlds and universes that others are from, but daylight is most especially interested in cayde’s place since he’s, well, kind of like daylight. ]
sendinthecavalry: (Default)

oops my titan-main bias is showing

[personal profile] sendinthecavalry 2018-08-30 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
[That gets a raise of a browplate; Daylight is the first person he's come across that's ever mentioned visiting anywhere outside of 'Earth'. And while Earth was subjective between the entire lot of them, it seemed, there's something comforting to hear that the moon retained its desolate hellscape across space-time.

There's a slight shift in the mood, however, and Cayde takes quiet note; it's not something he can put a finger on, but there's something there, something that he's not going to push. There are times to be nosy, and this isn't entirely one of them. So he lets Daylight lead their attention away, observing the sketch with an approving nod. It's honestly impressive, he's got to give the other a lot of credit.]

Pretty good, yeah. Right out here though- [He reaches out, gloved fingers drawing a few lines across the horizon of the sketch.] There's a big wall. Keeps everyone safe. And keeps everyone in.

[Necessary, he's always heard Zavala and his titans preach that. But hunters were never made to be caged, and while the safety and security was more ameniable after the Red War, Cayde still knows that there will always be a part of him that longs for the serenity and freedom of the open roads.

Questions though, Daylight is asking questions. Mouth lights flickering in amusement, Cayde holes up a hand to try to get a moment so he can squeeze in an answer.]
Old is old, buddy. I don't know how long they've been calling it 'Old Russia', but I know it started a long time before I rezzed up. And that was a couple of centuries ago, so...hell, I don't know? I'd probably say a couple hundred years? A thousand? Hard to say. And there's definitely other places, Old Chicago is one hell of a wasp's nest that you want to avoid, but...

[He pauses to think for a moment.] Where I'm from there's a lot that's been lost. Everything is old, I suppose humanity's trying to establish 'new'.
sunborne: (038. - 🔥 - COOPERATE.)

it is great and must be encouraged!!

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-09-01 05:31 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ... wow. cayde's world sounds pretty... dangerous.

super cool - the sort of place he'd love to explore and learn and live, if he had been given the option to poke his nose about - but dangerous all the same.

it's also difficult for him to wrap his processors around the concept of hundreds and thousands being used for time. having been more or less raised on earth terms for, well, everything before he went off to space (and then deep space) later on in life. the idea of a hundred years is a long time for day. thousands of years? maybe more? that's... that's a lot, of course. a lot and overwhelming.

now he's stuck with a hundred more questions he wants to so badly ask - what do you mean by 'rezzed'? why do you need a wall? is it because of the things that can be found in places like old chicago? is everyone okay? - but daylight himself can tell some of those questions are pretty loaded.

so.

he decides to go with the most obvious thing to comment on: ]

Sounds like humanity, alright — Always ready to get back on their feet, even if they get knocked down. [ and they can be knocked down a lot, from what his parents' writings and family's reports are to be believed.

he looks down and begins to build up on the lines cayde drew down, thinking maybe it's a fusion of old items and new technology. high walls. turrets, maybe. this new thing to draw gives him an excellent excuse to not quite make eye contact while he speaks. ]

We had something big happen in pit universe too. Something big that made things Old and changed a lot of lives even if it's been years and years and years when it first started.

It was pretty... bad. I wasn't there when it happened but I heard it was, um, harrowing for those involved or got involved, one way or another.

... I hope your thing gets solved soon. Because it sounds like it isn't yet and no one should be stuck with that for years and years and years. It's- It's hard. Yeah.

[ oh man is this wall difficult for him to draw or what??? time to super focus on it and not the nervous fluttering of his winglets...!! ]
sendinthecavalry: (Default)

[personal profile] sendinthecavalry 2018-09-15 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I gotta say, Humanity is pretty resiliant when it all comes down to things. Knock 'em down and they come back twice as hard.

[He surrenders the wall to Daylight, optics glinting ever so slightly as he watches the picture unfold. Moreso than that, it's what the kid is saying that catches his attention, and the way that he seems to shrink in on himself just the tiniest bit.

Cayde says nothing for some time, just watching as lines sprawl in the dirt; when there's a slight lull, he reaches down again, tracing a tall tower off of what's already there with one finger.]

Made things old, hm? I'll admit, I haven't heard that one before, it sounds like quite a story. [He doesn't push though, doesn't needle. He may love to collect tales, but he's cognicent enough to know that pushing someone for too many details was never a smart idea.] I promise you though, back where I'm from everyone is fighting for things to get better. Not always sure what 'better' might mean, but we're fighting for it nonetheless.
sunborne: (032. - 🔥 - DEAD RAIN.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-09-22 01:47 pm (UTC)(link)
It's definitely a heck of a story. By the time I popped into the world, it was finally over but lasted for... what? Millenniums? I think.

[ daylight falls quite as he stews over the information he gave, and the information cayde is giving him in return. it's poetic, he guesses. knowing some things never change. strife. destruction. rebuilding. hoping. a cycle that he isn't sure how to feel at times.

all he knows is that his smile is a little sadder when he looks at cayde again when he puts the finishing touches to the drawing. ]

That's good to hear. That they're still kicking and kicking back, I mean. It'll be pretty sad to fight for something that most can't bring themselves to- [ worry. protect. care. ] -to comprehend at that point in time.

[ comprehend. yeah.

that's a good word to use here. ]

How long have you been part of it? Sounds like you're in the thick of the action.
