a storm approaches.This log is for everyone who signed up for The Storm investigation. Feel free to use the here to plot further on how you plan on approaching The Storm, and the issue. The mod questions thread is also open, if you have anything you would like to run by us.
the investigation.It takes a day of preparation, and a day of discussion, before you are led further down into the tunnels. It's pitch black, but one of the BGs who you have become familiar enough with turns on a low light and continues further. You walk for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, and then turn a corner into a large, open cavern. The BG explains that at one time, this had been an underground transportation system - old and unused for centuries, now, but still in working order.
They file each of you onto a single car - it seems to be large enough to fit nearly a hundred, possibly more, bodies - so everyone has a space. The BG explains that they have already input the coordinates into the system, and that once they close the door, you will be transported to the last known location. The car will be programmed to wait for 72 hours, and then will return to this location. There is food and water supplied, and already packed, in the car. If you are not back in the car by that time, it will leave you behind. They then give their farewells, thank you for your help and readiness, and step away from the door - letting it close behind them. The car travels down a pitch black tunnel, and while the inside is dimly lit enough for the Circle Members to see each other and move around without hinderance, you can see nothing through the windows. It continues for a few hours at this rate - nothing to see, no idea where you are going. That is, until it seems to break through the surface, the track running through buildings and another, unknown area of the city.
The streets and buildings are abandoned, the tech old and outdated, windows broken out and dust filling the street. The sky, like back in the city you knew before, is cloudy and grey. But these clouds are different - these clouds are dark in a way you haven't seen before. You travel for another half hour above ground before the cart comes to a stop, and during this time it happens twice. A low rumble, seeming to come from everywhere at once, and then a few heartbeats after, a disasterous flash of lighting - miles away, yes, but threatening and gigantic, brighter and more violent than you've ever seen lightning before. The crash shakes the ground under you, and the damage is immense.
But the buildings are abandoned, the streets empty save for crates, old mechanical bits, dusty remnants of a society long forgotten by the Struxta you came from just a couple of days prior.
This is The Storm you've been warned about. the storm.You have been asked to find out information that will help the BG's, and Struxta, to stop The Storm.
From what you can gather, it does seem to be a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, as far as weather systems seem to work on this planet. However, rather than scattered thunder and lightning strikes, it seems to almost recharge and strike with epic proportions. It can damage, or destroy, buildings. It shorts out any and all items (and people) who depend on electricity in any form to function (Sorry Daylight and Conner, sorry to anyone who brought along technology) within a three mile radius.
The 'darkness' the BGs were talking about does follow this storm, but they seem to have been referring to this electrical shortage that comes from the storm and it's strikes. If this storm does reach any of the still-occupied areas of the city, it will shut down the entire grid, as well as any of the robots, androids, or electrically based figures that exist there - essentially ending the life of every Struxta citizen that is effected.
Plot, plan, theorize, and see if you can find a way to stop The Storm. If not, be back on the train car in 72 hours time, to return to the BGs and report what you have found.PROMPT IDEAS
1.) Discussions on the train - do you have any ideas for what to prepare? Any discussions you may want to have? You and your fellow Circle Members are caught here together for a few hours, driving into a situation you know very little about. What do you want to make sure you're prepared to handle?
2.) Scouting missions - the heart of The Storm is very much in the distance, and it is not moving quickly, giving Circle Members plenty of time to set out and check out the surrounding city. What you will find won't be much - this is a robotic ghost town in every turn of the phrase. Buildings have been abandoned for hundreds of years, covered in dust and left entirely undisturbed, except for the breeze that now seems to flit through this entire area. There are stores, warehouses, apartments, and buildings you can't even tell what they were used for, cleared out. Whenever, or whoever, lived in this part of Struxta had evacuated, quickly but efficiently.
3.) The Storm - The Storm is still a distance away from where the cart has dropped you off, enough that when your 72 hours are up, the heart of the storm and the lightning strikes shouldn't reach the car, or the track. This does mean that to do any closer investigation, you will need to go to The Storm itself. But be careful - the electrical output from these lightning strikes are dangerous, and can have all sorts of effects on both natural and mechanical beings. The wind, the closer you get to The Storm, will also pick up - making any kind of flying or air travel impossible.
4.) Planning - the car leaves everyone off at an old train station, which a large room attached. This room can be used as a kind of home base, as well as a meeting location. What do you plan on doing? Simply taking down information, or trying to take the storm head on? How do you plan on doing that? Will your abilities help? This room attached onto the train station is a safe location - no effects of The Storm will make it inside. Use as you would like! |

Slow down. [Firo doesn't have a quick mind, Daylight, he needs time to catch up! He frowns as he finally kicks his brain into gear.]
...That Connor guy was having trouble too. If it got bad out there, maybe Meddy collapsed the same way and couldn't follow you back. Connor could barely even move when I saw him.

pour one out for the most exhausted companion drones to every function.)the noise daylight makes is a combination of a fearful wheeze and a stifled scream at the fact poor meddy having gotten left behind and daylight didn't notice it. he immediately feels awful, tanks churning in fear and apprehension at what could be happening to meddy right now. not meddy. anyone but them- ]
No! I mean- Yes! [ he takes a deep vent, trying to calm himself enough that he could speak despite his processor glitches. it's hard to do. it's really, really hard to do at the moment. ] I... I know where I was before but-but... I'm coming with you, okay?
[ daylight stares at firo beseechingly, optics big and bright. ] Meddy needs me. I need Meddy. I can't lose them. Please- You gotta let me join in the search. I'll try to be careful, I swear.

[First Firo thinks that there's no way he can drag Daylight around if he winds up having problems. And second he realizes that if Daylight pitches over from the Storm, he'll probably squash Firo.
But there's no helping it. He clearly wants to go, despite the danger, and Daylight knows best where to look.
Firo presses one hand to his forehead as if to ward off a headache.]
...All right. But if you think you're gonna pass out, try and say something before you fall over, okay? I'm not gonna be much help if you land on me, and I can't carry you back here if something happens.

the idea of him sitting out on the search for meddy is not something that sits right by day. meddy and him were a team, over a hundred years strong. he's not going to let a
ridiculously dangerousstorm stop him from helping out in their rescue. ]Thanks, Firo. [ he means it, he really does ] I promise- I promise to try my best to not squish you. That's not a cool thing for friends to do, you know?
[ and he'll do his best in everything else. searching, rescuing, and, heck, he'll try his hand in first aiding if that comes up. he's going to help in anyway he can, despite the circumstances. he doesn't want firo regretting saying 'yes' to this. ]
-Come on! [ he starts to move forward, doing his best to keep a brave face. even as his armour slicks down against his frame, instinctual fear more than anything else. ] I'll show you the path we took.

Firo feels like he should keep a serious face on for this, but he finds he has to smile as he nods to follow Daylight. The kids cares about his friend, clearly, and that's what matters.]

daylight tries to pull out the corresponding memory file, wanting to be sure about this for meddy's sake, but all he gets is nasty case of processor pains and his visual feed acting up. urgh. looks like he's got to trust himself.
(hopefully this doesn't cause him or firo trouble.) ] We wanted to go deeper but every time lightning hit, I- I don't know. I felt like my processor was going to melt or something. Meddy wasn't doing too hot as well.
That's when we realised something was up and we decided to pull back. Before it got worse.

I don't know much about the weather, but if I had to guess, I'd say this all is gonna get worse before it gets better.
[And they have a mile and a half or maybe even more to go. Firo speeds up his clip.]
Honestly, I don't know how either of you works... but do you think Meddy could still be conscious out there? Would he hear us if we call for him or be able to give us some kinda signal?
[Anything? Please let there be something; he's out of his depth with this robot rescue mission. His usual strategy of "run around freaking out until something happens" doesn't seem like it'll cut it here.]

[ a terrible answer to give but its the truth.
and the truth is something daylight needs, oddly enough. much as it seems awful to give these facts, something about having the facts in this situation, no matter how grim they are, is a weird steadying force for daylight. a reminder that this is real, that meddy is on the line and firo is on the line so daylight can't mess this up.
being able to speak the truth is scary but important, he realises as he and firo move further down the paths, his audials straining to pick up any sound- ]

When Daylight points out the noise, he freezes in his tracks and looks up and down the streets around them.]

[ the noise repeats itself even as lightning cracks across the sky and strikes the ground. it's a whine, high pitched and desperate. it's a cry for help.
without a doubt? it's meddy.
daylight all but launches himself towards the direction of the noise, crying out meddy's name. it means getting closer to the storm and daylight does not care. not one bit. ]

[There's nothing Firo can do but take off after him. He tries to grab onto Daylight, though he's not sure why he bothers, since he probably can't physically stop an enormous robot.]

daylight stops dead in his tracks but the wild flare of his optics does not fade away. nor does the panic and the anxiety leave his static-riddled voice. ]
Meddy! [ that's all the thing that daylight can focus on. even as his hud is riddled with error messages and red alerts and system messages. ] I can't- They're- Meddy sounds so- They sound so scared. They're out there. They need us.

He forces a smile and knocks his fist against Daylight's side in what is an attempt at a comforting bro punch.]

[ daylight can't cry.
it's a weird biological quirk from the endless list of weird biological quirks he has from being part-galateion and part-human. his mom could cry. his dad could cry, in a sense. but he can't cry, it's a weird sort of gridlock in his mishmash of organs and systems preventing it from happening.
so he can't cry and he wishes he could. if only to let firo know how grateful he is for his help, to let firo see how daylight is touched by his willing to try and be comforting despite the howling winds and screaming cracks of thunder around them.
the most he can do is point firo to the right direction while giving directions to where meddy should be, daylight's voice is breaking and glitching from stress and relief. ]
Please- Please help them. [ he clears his vocoder long enough to say the next works without anything getting in the way: ] Thank you.

When he finally spots Meddy, he'll stop by their side and gingerly try to lift them up. He has no idea how heavy they'll be or if he can even move them, but he hopes it'll be easy.]

on the screen, their 'eyes' flicker back on at the picking up, the voice. despite being tired and wanting nothing more but to recharge, meddy lets out a sharp little whistle and stuttering beep to confirm they're still alive. scuffed and dented but alive.

[He doesn't want to risk dropping Meddy, so he doesn't bolt back to Daylight as quickly as he'd run away from him. But he does jog as fast as he reasonably can, and once Daylight's in view he'll call out:]

[ meddy perks up at the sound of their charge, trying to sit up when they see their charge trying to move closer.
bweeeeeeeeeee!, goes meddy. they go as far to lean forward in firo's arms, fins and finials twitching at the welcoming sight of daylight kneeling in front of them. bweeee! ]
I'm happy to see you too! [ he looks at firo's now, optics flickering from a mixture of stress and relief. mostly relief. most definitely relief. ] Thank you. Thank you so much, Firo. I thought Meddy was-

[He won't mention yet how Meddy seemed to be in such rough shape when he first found them.]

[ he can tell meddy isn't in the best of shapes but daylight will take a battered meddy over no meddy, time and again.
with surprising gentleness, daylight takes meddy from firo and cradles his companion to his chassis and, with a smile that could be described at 'teary' in quality, daylight says aloud: ]
Man- You look awful, Meddy.
[ he gets smacked in reply and he laughs in joy. ]
Looks like you got to them in time! [ daylight looks back at firo in gratitude, winglets hitched up high. ] Thank you. If it weren't for you- Thank you.
