And even though she wants to keep looking away, to look up towards the ceiling of the lobby in a feeble attempt to keep her tears from falling even more, when Lance speaks, urging her to listen, she looks to him, holding his gaze even as her vision remains blurred.
She probably looks a mess. And she knows it's ridiculous to cry when she should be stronger, but of all the people closest to her here, between Shiro and Keith, it feels...safe to cry in front of Lance. And what he says...it helps. It's easy to focus.
And no matter how much Lance thinks he's bad at saying things that matter, for Allura it all cuts deep, feels genuine, even if he's never been the articulate one of the bunch there is always something to what he says that's reassuring. Like when he reached out to her during Naxzela. When he handed the Blue bayard to her. In even the most difficult situations, she knows she can turn to him as a friend.
And when he turns to look away, she brings her thumbs up to rub the tears away, knowing it does little to hide that she's crying, that her eyes are going to be red and puffy for most of the day. But when he laughs, she lets out a small laugh of her own, an incredulous one, one still trying to sort through just how she feels. How awkward and vulnerable this whole ordeal has made her feel.
And when he turns to her again, gestures at her, she offers him a wobbly smile, and then brings herself close, wrapping him up in a hug that's a bit awkward at the angle from how they're seated, Platt rolling off her lap and onto the floor with a squeak, and she presses her face into his shoulder.]
Thank you, Lance. [Her voice is muffled against him, but she keeps holding onto him, a great steadying comfort washing over her even in the midst of all the chaos she's feeling inside.
