WORLD JUMP # 1: EL MINHA.
![]() ![]() welcome to el minha. It will happen at random- you could be asleep, or wandering the Temple, or a variety of other options. It will feel a little strange, like a sudden warmth spreading across your skin, and then your bracelet will light up and a semi-familiar voice will be heard. I hope you are able to help the people of El Minha! And oh- in case I didn't mention it already, water is very, very valuable here. And then you will blink, and it will be bright. Bright, and warm, as you are standing just inside the grand walls that protect the impressive city before you. At your hip there will be a small bag with a few bits of coin - nothing too crazy, and definitely not enough to last you the entire stay (which...you're not exactly sure how long it will be), but enough to get started. Your presence brings a couple of glances, a stare or two, but overall the city seems to continue on with its day. Welcome to the Red Desert, the city of El Minha. ![]() THE PALACE After a few hours of being within El Minha, the King has heard that a large amount of travelers are now wandering within the city limits. An audience is called in front of the Royal Palace, and King Kathashun steps out onto the dias. He is dressed rather plainly, for a monarch -- a purple robe, with some gold bangles and bracelets, but no ornate crown or anything like that. However, when he appears, the natives around you grow quiet, at the presence of their King. ![]() Welcome to the heart and soul of El Minha - a massive outdoor market in the center of the city. Covered by fabric stretched between the buildings, this market feels almost like a city, or living soul, in and of itself. It is constantly moving, constantly evolving. Anything you could imagine is for sale here - spices, jewelry, weapons - whatever you’re looking for, anything at all. While you won’t necessarily find specific items from your home, you can find any matter of similarly made or crafted ones. Think cheap knock-offs, or unnecessarily well-made versions, because they can vary widely. There can also be items of some level of magic, though nothing particularly strong or overly impressive. (feel free to ask the mods on the previous ooc post about if an item is too over-powered to be found in the market - and also know that there’s always the chance you could find it in the underground. It just depends on how determined you are to track it down.) Stalls can range from cobbled together boxes and goods to grand, incredible stands - it all depends on what you’re looking for, and how long you’re willing to look. There is no map here, so tread lightly! ![]() As the announcement from King Kathashun comes to an end, all members of the Circle will be communicated - in one way or another - the direction to the Sparkling Sapphire. Free housing, you’ve been told. All you have to do is go, give them your name, and let them know you are part of the group that King Kathashun has directed here. ![]() THE FIGHT RING The ring itself is somewhat on the outskirts of town - a colosseum-esque collection of buildings that watch over a pit-like arena. The buildings protect the Fighting Ring from any outside eyes, or any unwanted attention, as this area is solely under the command of The Syndicate. Anyone is allowed inside, as long as you don’t cause any problems and don’t start any trouble. There are a number of what you can assume are Syndicate-employed figures that are constantly canvasing the area as well, so don’t expect to be able to sneak in unless invited or allowed. ![]() The Golden Phoenix is the central location of the Syndicate . . . and locals will make absolutely no effort to hide that fact from the Circle members. However, people don't seem to be afraid to go, though you definitely need to have coin to get through the door. Additionally, please feel free to write up and work with your own prompts! These are presented as jumping off points for your characters, not limitations. The idea of this world- as with all the others- is to explore. There will be some NPCs interacting with characters as well, so keep an eye out for those as well! If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them back on the mod questions thread back in the OOC post from before! From this point forward, the Circle has become involved with the political stasis and climate of El Minha. What your character finds out, decides, and does from here on out will affect the future of this city- one way or another! But what you do is completely up to you. What you discover, explore, and uncover in this city will be yours to discover, explore, and uncover. Who knows what you might find? :) |

It sure does... It makes sense now why Astoria's place was such an improvement.
[He reflects that he'd take Alcatraz any day over that hostage situation. ...Though then it occurs to him a moment later that a hostage situation is pretty much why he's there in the first place. Still, at least Ennis is with his Family and, hopefully, safe for now.]
Who's the bastard doing all this?
no subject
Ah. Back home he was the Emperor, the ruler of the kingdom of Liang.
no subject
Emperor, huh? So not the kind of guy you can just take down a peg.
What's he want with the two of you in the first place?
[She'd mentioned somebody she knew (or somebody who knew somebody she knew? It was hard to keep track) having some sort of relation to the emperor, but surely such a tenuous connection doesn't lead to kidnapping and death threats.]
no subject
Ah, well, my son is also the son of the Emperor. One of his sons, anyway.
no subject
Wait, what's that make you?
[Didn't she say that emperor guy had already married twice? Three sure seems like a lot, but Firo supposes that it's also possible--though he has to wonder what horrible fate the other two met, if this is the kind of guy who holds people captive.]
no subject
no subject
Oh. Yeah, like the queen, right?
no subject
no subject
[Even not being the most civic-minded individual, he knows that much. He can't say he's ever been a big fan of the government, but at least he can be thankful that his seems somewhat straightforward, comparatively.]
How do you have an Empress and a queen?
no subject
[Sorry, she's anticipating your eyes glazing over, Firo.]
It's a lot of things to remember. I wasn't really born into it, like some of the others.
no subject
That sounds like way more women than any one emperor or man can be married to--by Firo's view. His unfavorable opinion may show well enough in the twist of his mouth.]
Sure sounds like a crazy thing to be born into. Are all of those ladies kidnapped too?
[Sorry, he's still not really over that.]
no subject
no subject
Hey, I didn't mean anything about you by it.
But honestly, he sounds like an asshole, so none of that really sounds worth it either.
[Sure, he gets swearing your allegiance to someone you really respect, but he also can't imagine respecting someone who marries a bunch of women and locks them up in the house.]
no subject
Ah- [Instinctively, she makes a muffled sound, half shock and half amusement. Old habits die very hard, and it really hasn't been that long that she feels comfortable with the blasphemy of openly criticizing the Son of Heaven...] It... It does seem that way, doesn't it?
no subject
It sure does. What, you're not gonna try and tell me I'm wrong, are you?
[That would be a very tough sell.]
no subject
No, I wouldn't dream of it, Firo. [She's just very grateful you don't live in her world, it would make her sad if you ran into problems.]
Are we almost there? [There did seem to be an interesting change in the other people walking along the road with them.]
no subject
Oh--yeah, it's this building right up ahead.
[There's a decent-sized stream of people heading into it right now, a rougher-looking group than the sort they would've passed several blocks ago.
Firo points down the road in the general direction of the Golden Phoenix.]
And then if you wanted to see the casino too, it's down that way.
[Despite her seeming lack of misgivings, Firo's not quite done with his, and he finds himself hesitant even as they draw closer.]
You, uh, you ready?
no subject
I'm ready. [She says, trying to be reassuring.] Do you ever participate in the fights yourself, Firo?
no subject
They've arrived as one fight is winding down, one combatant plainly flagging beneath the other's blows.]
Me? I've gotta have more of a reason than that to fight somebody. Blood sports aren't really my thing.
[Said reasons may not really be enough for most people, but they're good enough for him.]
What about you? You're not thinking of pulling something like your princess, are you?
[He's joking; please don't.]
no subject
[For anything other than a physical fight though...]
Are there any competitors here who are particularly famous? Someone mentioned a Champion?
no subject
[The offer is perfunctory but genuine. Who knows what kind of trouble they could encounter, here or in future worlds. A bit of self-defense is good, but a lot of it is even better.
Firo bobs his head when the Champion comes up. He knows basically nil--only hearsay really--about that guy, but enough to run his mouth about it.]
Oh, yeah, people keep talking about him like he's crazy strong. I haven't seen him yet, though--if that's what you came for, you might be disappointed.
Honestly, with all the stories people say about him, he could just be a gimmick to keep people interested. Then again, this stuff really doesn't seem like it's faked... Could still be fixed, though.
no subject
Hm. [She shakes her head, smiling.] I'm just a tourist really. The Fight Ring and the casino are two places I haven't seen yet. But considering the environment... finding out the fights here are fixed would be rather demoralizing to the local children. [Not that that would stop someone truly determined.] Many of them seem to look up to the fighters.
no subject
At the comment on the fighters, he shrugs one shoulder.]
Hey, it's just a guess.
For some of those kids, it might be the only way they can think of to make a name for themselves.
[That was how it'd been back home--kids always looked up to the prizefighters or the criminals. Of course, neither path was exactly an easy way out of their situation. That, again, he assumed would be the same here.]
How'd you hear that? You been talking to the locals much?
no subject
Do you know if most of the strong fighters in the Ring are from that kind of background?
no subject
It's the same way back home. You see a lotta boxers who came from places like this and happened to pick the ring instead of sticking up banks.
