( the sickness: phase two )

the sickness ends.
the temple.
The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown.

The Forest of the Fey seems to be responding in kind, too. Sprites are exceptionally active, darting out of the Forest and into the Temple with increasingly regularity, playing basic little tricks on the members of the Circle they can find. Flower crowns are made at an alarming rate, and there might be a few fruit-food fights that break out with the sudden abundance of peaches and apples that appear on the grounds. Learn how to duck!

With the magic comes the sudden fluctuation of energy: canon powers flicker on and off, as do the powers granted by Astoria. You feel more like yourself, you suddenly have access to energies you did not have previously in the Temple However, it's a double-edged sword -- it is not constant, and it may be more trouble than its worth.

And, remember: the Sickness is not fading immediately. If you make it to Stage 3, then you're stuck with sensory deprivation for at least another week or two. Sorry, friends.

lake dona.
Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct.

In addition to the ruins, there are a network of caverns tucked along the water’s edge, just underneath the surface on the western side of Lake Dona, that appear to go underground into murky darkness. The actual entrance to these caverns seem to be underwater, seemingly guarded by merfolk, but poking around may seem to be more trouble than its worth.

There is plenty of wildlife to be found within the lake itself, ranging from freshwater mermaids who would rather you stay the hell out of their backyard to a rather large and suspiciously friendly plesiosaurus-like creature (some would say that she prefers to be called Nessie) that seems intent on checking out who you are. The lake teems with odd-looking fish, most of which seem to be okay to eat, and plenty of plant life! But who knows what lurks in the depths below . . . that giant sea-monster looking thing has to be eating something.
PROMPT IDEAS: Here are some prompt ideas for this new area! However, don't feel limited to such ideas! Feel free to fish, to explore, to swim, to poke around . . . it's always possible Astoria may check in on your character, too, once she is feeling better! ;)

1.) The Great Pumpkin The overgrowth of plants have caused a massive growth spurt in a lot of the trees, including the fruit trees that sprinkle themselves throughout the Temple. However, the fruit themselves seems to be growing at a rather . . . alarming rate, resulting in a few pumpkin-looking squash growing to the size of small boulders in the fields. Hope you have a lot of spare time on your hands to make a hell of a lot of Temple-pie, because these squash aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

2.) Food Fight!: Those damn sprites are at it again, and are collecting fruit off the ground and throwing it at people. Fight back, organize, and conquer! Or not. It's probably better to just not.

3.) Part Of Your World: The mermaids within Lake Dona are a suspicious lot, and they don't take kindly to strangers stomping through their territory. However, they are receptive to music, so if you are so musically inclined, they will definitely be more inclined to be a little more playful than territorial. If you aren't? Have fun getting tossed into the lake head-first by a bunch of pissed off mermaids who want you to get the hell of their lawn. They don't take kindly to your type around here.

4.) Nessie: Within Lake Dona is a massive plesiosaurus-type creature which seems to be . . . oddly friendly? It seems to pop up at the most inconvenient of times. Are you sitting on the edge of the lake enjoying the water? Enjoy a massive ass dinosaur sticking its impressively long neck out of the lake to check you out and also scare the bejesus out of you. That being said, Nessie is an extraordinarily friendly being, and will even give you laps around the lake if you ask nicely!

5.) Caverns: The caverns within the lake are dark, deep, and menacing The merfolk inform you that you cannot go there -- no one can, but the merfolk sure seem to be keeping a careful eye out on it. Testing the boundaries indicates a weird magical field around the entrance of the cave, that works like a bit of a forcefield. Weird, right?

the Ultimate fishing crossover

[ arguably, she came to the lake to investigate it with the hope of finding something meaningful to do - whether that would be some untouched area to explore or a puzzle to solve or a monster to fight, she didn't know or care. Naturally, she found none of the above. Or, at least, not where she could access them; there were murmurings of something mysterious beneath the water, but with her abilities already handicapped, she wasn't about to test if her waterproofing was holding up.

So, instead, 2B's here to fish. To her surprise, she's apparently not the only one who had this idea. From an outside perspective, she probably doesn't look prepared to fish - there's no sign of a rod or any supplies on her, not to mention the blindfold. All she has with her is a small floating robot, hovering a little ways behind her head. ]

Bait...? [ oh, wait - she remembers the people in Hanabira using worms for that. ] If you dig, you'll probably find worms.

[ thanks 2B ]

Yeah, that's... I'm having trouble uh. Finding them.

[Seeing, is his keyword, but when he turns a bit to look over despite how much he knows he can't see all that well right now, Noct squints for a moment before he realizes she looks a bit unprepared for fishing. If that's what she really came for, maybe, this is a pretty out of the way spot away from the mermaids that he found.]

It's kind of hard to go with a bare hook, these fish are smart. [The robot almost isn't even noticed until Noct sees a blur sort of move past the girl, but how does one say 'is that supposed to be there' without alarming someone?]

You are?

[ she sounds very faintly incredulous, but connects the dots quickly enough. ]

... Wait. Are you still sick?

[ is it okay for a sick human to be out here fishing? As far as she could tell, the cure for illness was to lay down for a long time and hope you got better... ]

Not entirely? Just some. Stuff is lingering.

[Stuff, he says, as he watches with an unsure little frown forming on his face - and he hunkers down, as if to say he isn't going to budge, because when he draws his line back in Noctis is quick to cast out again. Bait or no bait, even the sound of the cast is relaxing.]

A runny nose and my eyes aren't adjusting too great after being inside so long. That's all.

[ 2B doesn't appear entirely convinced, but she also doesn't think he's going to reconsider, and it's not her place to tell him what to do. Another android would definitely get a scolding for this. A human, though? Humans know how to take care of themselves better than she would. And, even now, she feels the drive to defer to him. ]

... Try not to push yourself.

[ there's a pause, potentially awkward. she's not great at conversation, but she's staring at the fishing pole curiously. ]

Have you caught anything?

[Thank the Gods she doesn't press further, because Noct almost feels like the less he talks about his sickness, the less it exists. Relaxing at the shore has done wonders for him as it was, having to ditch would just make him depressed. More than he sometimes feels.

Nodding with the relief that she simply settles with telling him not to push himself, Noct gives a little grin as he starts to reel in again, slowly, baiting whatever just nipped at his hook.
]

A few small fish, nothing too big. I might have to use this next catch as bait if I want something larger though. Are you interested in fishing?

[ she's so disconnected from her personal wants that it feels odd to describe herself as "interested" in anything, even now, but she supposes he's right. 2B nods, folding her arms across her chest. ]

You could say that. [ is it a hobby, maybe? She usually did it to relax, even if she told herself she was doing it for data collection on the local aquatic lifeforms. ] I was going to see if I could catch anything. I didn't think I'd see someone else in this spot.

[It's definitely a hobby, by the way 2B is lingering, by the way she's here at all and doesn't seem bored - and for the many hours he has wasted by fishing and accidentally forcing his friends to hang around, he has seen Bored on many levels.]

It's a good spot. Pretty quiet over here, and the mermaids haven't bothered me since they saw me tossing fish back in. I think if you aren't taking anything out, they don't have any big issues with people hanging around.

[Glancing over, despite how he can't see all that well, Noct moves his rod from his right hand to his left and extends it - and with a little flurry of blue lights, he takes another fishing pole out of essentially nowhere. Crystalline until he grips it, the whole thing fully forms before he holds it over in an offering.]

It has a hook, if you'd like to give it a shot. [He'll even go seeking some bait for her if she wants, Noctis just likes having a fishing partner to sit quietly with.]

[ 2B is familiar with summoning weapons up seemingly out of thin air, at least, but she's never seen someone do it with a fishing rod - mostly because she's never really seen one like that before. She was going to ask about mermaids; now, she's more curious about the rod, gingerly reaching out to accept it. ]

... I've never used a tool like this before, [ she admits, looking it over.

It's probably more complicated than just using Pod... yet she's interested in learning how humans did it. This is more advanced than the simple poles people in Hanabira had been using. ]

apologies for the super long delay

[personal profile] reeliable 2018-10-23 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's easy once you get the hang of it.

[Once she accepts it, Noct goes to reel his line back in so he can properly demonstrate. Setting his pole across his lap, reaching to take the line on 2B's pole and feeling his way to the end, he pulls a lure out of the same crystal hammerspace and starts to tie it on - he doesn't need to look for this sort of thing, thankfully.]

To start, an empty hook isn't really going to catch you much... but if you catch a fish and reel it in, you can either release it, or secure the hook in it better so you can use it as bait instead. That will catch you something way bigger.

nbd!!! i've been really slow too....

[personal profile] undeserved 2018-10-26 05:55 am (UTC)(link)
[ she watches silently, tilting her head. What a generous human...

She's used bait to lure animals in before - on land. She hadn't considered trying it with fish, considering Pod could usually catch them by itself, but it does make sense. ]

If it's hard to start, Pod can catch smaller fish for us to use.

[ since he was complaining about running out of bait, too... of course, she could also use Pod to just catch fish, period, but now she's interested in trying out human-style fishing. ]
reeliable: ponponpon (pic#12529272)

no trouble here :)

[personal profile] reeliable 2018-11-03 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
[To be fair, the fishing pole won't stay when his magic fades out again, so taking advantage while he has it is a big part of what he is enjoying. If he can always provide a pole for a fishing buddy, he would do it in a heartbeat. Finishing tying the lure on and giving it a secure tug, Noct looks up - he can sort of make out the shape hovering near 2B. That must be what she is talking about.]

Yeah, if you can have Pod do that, we just need two little ones. Three or four inches, just a little bite-size for something bigger.

[Noct can hook on the bait once it arrives, so he keeps his fingers neatly above the lure to avoid hooking himself.]
