( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

At the sound of approach she looks up... and blinks a bit in shock at how very daring the woman's clothing choices were.]
Who, me?
[Oh, wait- the voice registers a second later, and Konoha's confusion changes slightly more towards recognition, waving in greeting.]
Oh! You're the person who wanted to trade for meat, right? Hello!
no subject
There are weirder things in the world. ]
Yeah. Kainé. I guess everyone is checking out this place.
[ Which is fair.
It's rather nice out here, fresh and new by the sounds of everything so it's only natural that people want to spend time out here. ]
no subject
[Konoha flubs the pronunciation a little bit, but she smiles through it, pausing in her grill duties to give a small bow from the waist in greeting, gesturing for the woman to come and take a seat around the small, toasty fire.]
Yeah, I heard it was nice so I came out for myself, and it is beautiful... I saw some people were exploring caves and the water, too!
no subject
[ Even if she doesn't appear to be over-the-moon about it all. That is just the type of person she is. When Konoha gestures for her to take a seat, she stares at the spot and shakes her head. ] I'm fine with standing.
The water certainly has interesting... creatures in it.
no subject
[So she's going to stand! Alright, maybe she didn't want to stick around for long... or maybe it's the sandy lakeside? Humans didn't like sand in their clothes, right, and as little clothing as this woman is wearing... its probably not much protection from The Itch.]
The half fish people? I saw them dragging people into the water, so... I don't know, they seem kind of dangerous to me...
[Not interesting??? Unless you thought danger was interesting, she guesses...
Well, Kaine may not want to sit, but Konoha still feels compelled to pick up one of the fish skewers and hold it out.]
Fish?
no subject
Yeah... I wouldn't want to befriend those guys. [ it sounds like a dangerous time to be near them.
she will stare at the fish for a moment before taking it, giving it a quick look over. ]
Are you sure it's safe?
no subject
Um...
[Well, that's... a good question.]
They don't smell off, and the guts aren't a weird color...
[So they were... safe by her world's estimation of safe fish.]
no subject
[ here goes nothing there. she takes a bite out of the fish, chewing it slowly to take her time to really savor the flavor. ]
It doesn't taste bad.
no subject
Oh, that's great!
[She pulls a skewer out of the sand for herself, biting the head off and revealing teeth far too sharp to belong in the mouth of a human... or a horse...]
It's hard to tell what flavors people will like, since we come from all sorts of different places.
no subject
[ It's free food after all! Sort of. Actually, that does remind her... she puts the fish in her mouth and goes digging through the small pouch she has and steps towards Konoha.
Kainé pulls out a wooden comb with a flowery design on it and shows it to Konoha. ]
no subject
But Konoha seems to have almost forgotten their talk about trading, because she looks surprised to be shown a comb, leaning over to examine it with a pleased sparkly in her eye.]
Wow, it's so pretty! What kind of flower is that?
[Surely a nice one like that isn't for her???]
no subject
It's a Luna tear. The flower is well-known in my world and a rare one.
[ but it's beautiful in her eyes. ]
no subject
[She'd been a bit feverish at the time, she doesn't remember every detail of the story, but...]
Nier told me about them! So this is what they look like...
[Or, wait- Emil said Kaine wore one in her hair... and some dots connect rather obviously in Konoha's sometime simple mind. Oh! This was that Kaine!]
no subject
[ he does seem to get around. not that she can blame people for getting along with him because he does just charge in and befriend everyone. nearly. ]
But, yes, that is what they look like.
no subject
[She leans forward to get a better look at the flower design, still a bit obvliois.]
They really are pretty... he said he would grow them, but I don't think he's managed it yet...
no subject
[ because she isn't always a great person. ]
They can be rather hard to grow, they're rare for a reason, but I hope you get to see a decent amount of them together. They are very beautiful.
no subject
[Which was from Emil, and he seemed like a nice young man, maybe a bit too kind in the sense that it was easy to believe he might see the best in people, but... so did she, so!]
I told Nier about the spider lilies in my world... they sounded alike, just a little...
[She still doesn't take the comb but traces the design to indicate a thinner petal.]
They bloom white sometimes instead of red, really rarely...
no subject
her cheeks go bright red and she glances away, unsure of how she is supposed to react to that because it isn't like she can say they're lying. they're welcome to their own thoughts. ]
I-I see.
[ totally calm. ]
Really? It's a shame that we can't get gifts from our worlds. I do enjoy flowers from time to time.
no subject
[Oh, wow... she really was pretty when she blushed. Konoha doesn't quite realize she's doing it, but her free hand moves to her cheeks, jealous for a fleeting moment of how nice and delicate a pink blush looked on pale skin like that as opposed to her own ruddy coloring. She kind of... assumed Kaine wouldn't be really capable of blushing, seeing as she walked around... more than half naked, but-]
I tried to make them... but my power only works on food, and spider lily roots are poisonous, it's why we plant them along the rice fields to keep the moles out...
[Geez, Konoha, this lady doesn't want to know about your mole problems?]
no subject
[ would they taste good? she doubts it. but! the point still stands. actually, anything can be food if someone tries hard enough. rocks probably not, given that they are more likely to break one's teeth on them. ]
Moles...?
no subject
[Also, there are definitely a lot of plants you shouldn't put in your mouth, Kaine...]
You know... moles?
[She finally takes her hands off the comb, returning to making sure the fish she has near the fire are cooking evenly.]
They bury in the ground and make tunnels and eat up all your crops?
no subject
[ in that case. she shouldn't be bad mouthing their 'leader', but it is what it is. ]
Can't say that I do. A lot of animals were probably just dying out by the time I was born. [ 'born'. ] So, none were around.
no subject
You don't... have any animals?
[Wait...]
Nier tried to say he could lift me because he could lift boars, though. Do you just have boars?
[Nier world, getting weirder...]
no subject
There were fish, boars, sheep, cats, and dogs. [ the cute ones.
although, she wouldn't say the first three are super cute. they're not bad, just dangerous sometimes. ]
no subject
[Certain People keep calling her a "moose", whatever that was...]
