( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

here are the mermaids they had wanted to see. Angry, trident wielding mermaids who sort of have Minato surrounded and maybe that's why he refrained from making any sudden movements this entire time. ]

Prompto hadn't given thought to the fact that the overgrowth might affect things under the water down here. He's quick to start for Minato once he spots him, but Koromaru gets there first to take care of his snagged ankle. These mermaids, on the other hand...
Well, they're looking at them like they've overstayed their welcome, which they probably have. Prompto thinks fast. It's probably better to get out of here unscathed even if they might not learn anything new, and so he does the first thing he thinks of...
Which is to grab both Minato and Koromaru around the waist, fire up his super speed, and propel them away from the angry mermaids, leaving a trail of bubbles in his wake. ]

The rescue is very much appreciated, even if Minato doesn't get the chance to voice it just yet— Are the deep enough to get the bends? he hopes not, because it already feels like his stomach lurching, the same way a roller coaster makes you feel, except the water drag keeps trying to pull your arms and legs off if they're left danging. ]

Hoooo-man! That was crazy! They reaaaally didn't look happy to see you...
[ But he's grinning. That was actually pretty exhilarating! ]

—I thought I was going to die. [ not from the mermaids, but- ] Are you on a swim team or something?
[ jfc he thinks Mamoru would have an aneurysm knowing there's somebody this much faster than him around ]
no subject
I know, right? Those mermaids looked seriously mean! Good thing I came along, huh?
[ If it looks like he needs it, Prompto will offer Minato a hand up out of the water as they reach the shoreline. Otherwise, Prompto starts to shake the water out of his hair, stretching his arms above his head. ]
Nope! More of a runner, actually. Astoria gave me a mad speed boost when I got here, though. Pretty neat, right?
no subject
Thanks...
[ He takes Prompto's hand to haul himself out of the water, but finds his footing as soon as he's out and doesn't have that inertia pulling him back under. It's cold. Koromaru bounds him behind him, though, pressing his forehead against the back of Minato's legs to keep him walking— as far away from the lake as possible would be nice. Maybe go back to bed and never leave again. ]
"Neat" is kind of an understatement... Stuff like strength and endurance wouldn't even matter if you're fast enough, I'm kinda jealous.
no subject
Chuckling, he rubs a hand against the back of his neck bashfully. ]
Heh, I mean, I still get tuckered out if I push myself too hard...but maybe Astoria was feelin' generous when she gave me my power.
[ Maybe she thought it might make up for some of his shortcomings elsewhere. ]
Are you okay? You were down there for awhile, kinda.
no subject
I'm alright.
[ He takes a seat... on the ground, and flops backwards without caring that his back will get all muddy. He just wants to lie here with his limbs spread-eagled and let the sun do its job. ]
I've been on a swim team before. I know that if I don't panic, I won't waste any oxygen trying to yell, or have my heart beat faster, or struggle futily, or whatever.
[ Keeping calm will delay your death- a good lesson everybody should know. ]

I thought you maybe just had, like...super-duper lung capacity, or something. I mean, I guess you kinda do. You were down there for awhile! If your dog hadn't started to worry about you, I might've let you go on awhile longer.
[ And at this point, he's less worried about Minato drowning than about the mermaids that were staring him down. Who knows what those things might be capable of? ]
no subject
[ Swimming aside, he's also spent month after month climbing stairs for nights on end, so his endurance isn't anything to laugh about. But thanks, Koromaru, for thinking he might be dead and going in after him... He leans over and pats the dog on the head. Good boy. ]
Being believed in is pretty nice. But next time, please assume that I'm about to die if you don't hear from me in a minute or so. Better safe than sorry, especially as a lifeguard.

[ It's so stressful! He's already got enough stressful work back home in the way of monster hunting and, you know, helping sorta save the world. ]
What's your plan now? Gonna explore some more? This lake is huge...
no subject
It's not like the lake's going anywhere. ...probably. I think I'll go drown myself in blankets instead, and warm up.
no subject
Sounds like a solid plan, my man! Might just do that myself after I get a few more pics of this sea monster.
[ ...Guess he better find his camera again. ]
