( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

[so he clarifies. to make sure he is understanding correctly]
Which people in particular. . .?
no subject
[ Everybody in the entire world, but even as the word leaves his lips, he realizes how impossible a question that is, and he backs off, figuratively and literally taking a step back. ]
No, never mind. It's enough that you're all still there. 2017... [ Like they're just numbers to him, not a date. Unreal. ]
no subject
Was there a chance we wouldn't be?
[. . . while others may be shocked or alarmed to ask that question, Akira is perfectly calm]
no subject
There's always a chance, isn't there? But you made it. That's what matters.
no subject
[. . .]
It was rough, for a while there. [ah] Everyone had kind of become. . . complacent.
But they're doing better now.
[or so Akira likes to think]
They'll improve, now that they've been given the chance to do so.
no subject
I'm relieved. If... you've also got the power of the Universe, then I can rest in peace leaving the world in your hands.
no subject
[he corrects, but. eh. close enough. and while Minato seems content and relieved, Akira can't help but ask]
. . . what were you fighting against back home, Minato?
no subject
And, uh. We fought against Death, I guess.
no subject
I mean, I have the World. Not the Universe.
[no deal!! but Minato's response to his question gets two raised brows from Akira]
Death. . . the human perception of Death?
[since that's what Yaldabaoth was, humanity's desire to be controlled and bound made into a god. he applies the logic of his journey to Minato's, not knowing how different they really are]
no subject
[ hm.
He finds that he can't really explain it all that well. What they were fighting against had shifted throughout the course of their journey, one thing twisted into another, hope corrupted into betrayal. What they fought against... what he fought against, and rejected with every fiber of his being... ]
The calling for Death, I guess... That feeling when things get too hard, and you just want to give up, and rest. When humans lose the will to live, and Death comes to answer their call. That's what we fought against.
no subject
[and there it is. another one of humanity's flaws, laid bare before the world. it isn't exactly the same as Yaldabaoth, but it's close. it's awfully close, and it's a reminder that things don't fix themselves. people have to work for it. they have to want it. Akira fought to give humanity the chance to change, but that doesn't mean he isn't somewhat jaded by their flaws]
[a small sigh]
You fought Death. We fought Indolence.
[a thoughtful noise, not quite a hum]
How did you win?
[because Minato had to win, if Akira's future still existed]
no subject
[ They never did win— like Ryoji had said, again and again, it is impossible to win against something that is simply the other half of life.
But they didn't lose, either. ]
Death, in all its forms, isn't something that can be defeated. It shouldn't be, anyways. In the end, all I could do was keep it from touching people's hearts.
[ Keep people's hearts from touching it. ]
no subject
I guess you're right. Technically.
[Death comes for everyone, he supposes. the natural cycle of life]
But it's something that should be natural. Not something people turn to when they want to give up.
. . . how did you change that?
[that's another huge assumption, and more of Akira applying his own experiences to Minato's situation without realizing that they could be completely different]
no subject
Something about miracles. Something about dying. Does it really matter? He doesn't want to tell Akira, afraid that he might employ the same strategy. ]
...Shadows are borne from human emotion, or something. They affect them in turn. We dealt with the Shadows.
[ Which was a mistake! But it had helped, so he's sort of on he fence of that. ]
no subject
[it's at this moment that he realizes he may be prying, but there's so much he wants to know. stuff about Minato's journey, his team, more about Death, his thoughts and views on what it was like being a wild card, what having the Universe instead of the World means--]
[he flashes Minato a lopsided, slightly sheepish smile]
That's kind of what we did, I guess.
[in a manner of speaking]
Sorry. I didn't mean to grill you.
no subject
He needs to stay out of it.
His time in the world is over, and his place in it is gone. ]
It's alright. [ ...He should say something else, but he isn't exactly sure how to chase it. ]
You can ask Koromaru for the rest, sometime. He'll probably be happy to tell you everything.
no subject
[either way, Minato's offer gets a huffed laugh from Akira]
I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for sharing what you did, though.
[a ppppause]
I've never been able to talk about the Velvet Room with anyone before.
no subject
[ The wildcard ability isn't something that could go unnoticed, and in Minato's case, he was similarly grilled about it by his friends who wanted to know, whether it's out of curiosity or resentment. ]
no subject
[Akira was fortunate enough to dodge the grilling, and he never really knew how to tell his team that he disappeared into a jail cell with a man with a super long nose and two tiny girl wardens to execute his Personas for fusion purposes]
no subject
You are weird. But if you really want to talk about something, you can always find somebody who will listen. I would. As your last resort.
no subject
[Akira repeats blandly. he isn't even offended]
We'll see about that. [for wild card and Velvet Room things, Minato will now probably be his first choice] And the offer's the same on my end, too.
[to keep things even. and because Minato's a good guy. if he needs to talk, Akira will undoubtedly listen]
no subject
[ Look... It's important to Minato that people go out and make friends, the sorts of friends who sit through something they have no idea what you're talking about but you're angry or excited or whatever enough, that it's enough. That person could be him, but if he's Akira's first resort, then Akira might not bother looking for anybody else and that's no good.
This is for your sake, Akira. Tough love. ]
I'll keep you in mind. I'll probably slot you in somewhere after Koromaru.
no subject
That's an honor. [SO DRY] Because I'd be surprised if you ranked anyone above Koromaru.
no subject
Thou shalt have our blessing when thou choosest to create a Persona of the Strength Arcana... You have established a new Social Link.
[ He drops Koromaru's paws and straightens up again to face Akira. ]
There. Try your hardest to catch up.
[ :) gotta establish a SL first if you want to climb ranks, Akira ]
no subject
I'll give it my all, even if there's very little chance I'll catch up.
[nobody can be Koro-chan, he is a gentledog and a scholar. although Akira does pause and give Minato a curious, almost scrutinizing look]
Appropriately, you're Death.
[definitely Death, sorry about your Universe, senpai]
