( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

[If you say "tomorrow" but then are willing to compromise, it makes them feel better about it, right? They'll keep their promise? Right! Konoha doesn't seem displeased by the answer at all, following behind him at a slower pace in her strange, lazy six-limbed backstroke.]
Paper?
[Huh...]
I've never actually made it, since that's kind of a full time job and I'm no craftsman, but I know how, basically. You need some?

he kicks his feet lazily in the water, watching the way it stirs up. )
Yeah. I'm keeping records on as much as I can, and I'm sure there are artists here that would appreciate having a supply, too. I mean... the next world we go to might have some we can bring back, but I don't want to rely on that, either.

[Konoha considers the logistics of what he's asking for a minute, stretching a foreleg out and grabbing it with her hands to pull it closer and examine her hoof. Chipped, she should file it...]
If you want nice paper I could make mulberries and then we could plant the seeds? But it will take a little while to grow enough to harvest... I guess we could search the woods here for something similar? Or just use wood... Do you know what mulberry looks like?
[She finally ends up close to the dock, but she's a bit reluctant to get out just yet, and just ends up pulling a mermaid, leaning up just enough to rest her elbows on the edge and pillow her head on her arms.]
If you or someone else will help me with it I don't mind making it.

Sorry, I'm not much of a... tree... guy.
( he trails off like that's something he only just realized he should maybe be ashamed of. it's not like he has any cause or reason to know, but he doesn't like being ignorant of... well, anything, really. that's more than just a detective thing, it's sunk into his bones. his schooling — or lack thereof — is still something he's sore about. )
But I'd be happy to help, and... learn. Maybe there's someone here who can accelerate the growth of plants.

Sorry, I keep forgetting everyone is from big cities and stuff. You probably know way fancier things than trees, right?
[She has her own... well, not sore spots, because she doesn't regret her poverty or her lack of education, but she does feel bad for needing to ask people to stop whatever they're doing to read things for her, to write for her. Things like that.]
I'll teach you, no problem. We can just make wood paper for now, and then... see what we can do about mulberries?

Well, yeah. But you take a smart city guy out of a city, and there's not much he can do in the middle of a jungle.
( he's smart and resourceful, and he read a lot of books, so he's often managed in situations where other people with his upbringing may have stumbled, but. he also knows he's the exception rather than the rule. he shrugs. )
Sure. I'd love to learn. We can ask on the network if it becomes an issue, I'm sure other people would be willing to help.

[She really, really hopes they don't end up in another place like Struxta, geez... And not just because she had spent most of it terrified.
Reluctantly, Konoha sighs, not wanting to leave the water but knowing she probably should get back to working, slowly beginning to drag herself out, leaving a sopping trail behind her as she begins to wring out her soaked under-kimono, revealing flashes of... some rather impressive abs, despite her contrasting sweet face.]
That's a deal, then. You taught me curry, so, I'll trade you paper.

You know more now than you did then, right? That's worth something.
( he's not exactly an optimist. it's a pragmatic way of thinking — the mistakes she may have made before won't be repeated. he shakes water out of his hair, ending up with it slicked up slightly, and then he puts his fingers to his mouth to whistle for naga, who has... dived off somewhere to catch fish. she pops her head up a few hundred yards away from the dock, and starts swimming for mako. he leans back on his hands as she cuts through the water, obviously a creature in her native element. though he does pause politely at the edge of the dock to make sure konoha isn't about to freak out!! )
All right. I'll look forward to that.
( he always has liked learning new things. )

It's good that he looks away though, cause it spares him from getting water all over his face as Konoha sort of squares her stance... and gives a full body shake ala her more equine cousins, sending water flying all about. That's the best she can do for now, but- that's what the sun is for, she'll dry out.]
Me, too, then! I'll call you on the watch thing!
[She waves her goodbyes... and just to be polite herself, she. Waves at Naga. Bye, big intimidating polar bear dog... you're not so bad.]
