( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

[ she doesn't understand. At once, she remembers Scott from Hathaway, how he said he was a "mutant" and could fire beams from his eyes. Maybe this is the same situation...?
(This boy really does sound exactly like Emil, and it's beginning to weird her out.) ]
no subject
[That's because he is Emil 2B, even if he doesn't look like a car.]
But it's okay! I mean, I'm used to it. I've lived this way for a long time so...
no subject
[ no she doesn't, but she's heard about weirder things by this point, so she may as well just accept it. The curse waning and waxing in strength must be similar to her own functions going on the fritz; she can only assume there's some kind suppressive wavelength in this area affecting everyone in different ways.
His willingness to handicap himself to protect others is admirable, she thinks. She doesn't say as much; 2B isn't a great conversationalist. Her eyes linger on him for a moment more before drifting back out to the water, watching Pod 042 bob up and down on the gentle lake waves, although she's sure to keep tabs on Emil, as well - just in case. ]
no subject
[Haha. It's a joke...look no one said Emil's sense of humour wasn't weird or off okay. He's smiling though, head tilted up in her direction. At least he seems content.]
I'm Emil, by the way! What's your name?
no subject
But the joke is quickly forgotten in the wake of his introduction. Her body immediately freezes, and she turns her head around to look at him. The voice is something she was willing to write off as a strange, unlikely coincidence. The voice and the name? Too much to be a coincidence. But what does this mean? There's no way this human child could be the same strange machine she met in the ruins - no, one of them. She doesn't understand his origins, but there's no way any remnant of a human could have survived for that long. ]
Emil... [ she sounds deeply puzzled, maybe even a little unsettled; after a moment, she belatedly gives her own name. ] I'm... 2B.
no subject
That said, Emil doesn't think on it too hard. He has no reason to. If anything, the sudden rush of excitement he feels at hearing her give her name overshadows whatever thoughts he might've had.]
2B...ah! You wouldn't happen to know A2, would you? Your footsteps sound really similar to hers...hopefully I won't get you both mixed up! I'll have to ask myself is it 2B or not 2B - then again that's always going to be a question, isn't it?
[Yeah...the joke thing? Too bad ignoring it won't stop Emil from making bad puns or references.]
no subject
Yeah, I know her. We're both YoRHa androids.
[ the reference seems to sail straight over her head this time. Sorry, Emil. She's more concerned about his existence; her processors are working overtime trying to come up with a logical explanation for this, or, hell, any explanation, but they're not having much success. 2B can't even figure out what she could ask him to shed light on this. He obviously wouldn't have any way of knowing what happens to him in the future. Or his personal data. She thinks of Simon, whose brain was scanned and his personality and memories turned into data. Could something like that have happened to Emil...?
She doesn't know. All she does is stare at him. But no matter how hard she looks, no clues pop out. ]
no subject
[Hah. Friends.
Well, to him it's only logical that they would be. Why wouldn't they be? He's all smiles as he sits in the surf, not bothered as the water rushes over his legs and recedes, over and over again. The sensation is a calming one. Sure, he might be soggy, but he's enjoying himself.]
What's YoRHa?
no subject
She wouldn't call them friends. But she also feels vaguely guilty telling him he's wrong, so she doesn't. ]
YoRHa was the group that designed and manufactured us. [ a pause. this probably deserves more explanation. ] They were an organization founded to retake the Earth from the machine invaders and fight for the glory of mankind.
[ there's a bitter taste to the words, at this point. ]
no subject
[That's...a lot to take in? No really, give Emil a moment to process all of what's just been said to him. Not only is he suddenly having to deal with the knowledge that Earth has been invaded by hostile machines, but now the fact humans had created androids? And if the planet had been invaded what had happened to the Shades?]
Then you're soldiers?
[At least that's something he can easily grasp from all of this.]
no subject
That's right. I was designed for combat.
[ this is not as bitter; it's simple fact. She was made to fight. She even enjoys fighting, though only thanks to her programming. ]
no subject
I see.
[Well, figuratively.
He falls quiet at that, bringing his hands out of the water to settle atop his knees. To be designed for something like that...it's not a bad thing, but it does make him reflect on his own, er, state of being as it were. He'd been born a normal human boy but had been fashioned into a weapon.]
What do you fight with?
no subject
His question is, of course, very easy to answer. The only reason she pauses before answering is because she's wondering at his interest in it. Emil sold weapons to her on her planet. Does he have an interest in things like that, too...? ]
... Anything. I'm programmed to use most types of melee weapons. [ a beat. ] ... Usually, I use a sword.
no subject
You do? Ah, that's really cool 2B...I wish I could see you use it! Not on a person or anything but, y'know?
