( the sickness: phase two )

the sickness ends.
the temple.
The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown.

The Forest of the Fey seems to be responding in kind, too. Sprites are exceptionally active, darting out of the Forest and into the Temple with increasingly regularity, playing basic little tricks on the members of the Circle they can find. Flower crowns are made at an alarming rate, and there might be a few fruit-food fights that break out with the sudden abundance of peaches and apples that appear on the grounds. Learn how to duck!

With the magic comes the sudden fluctuation of energy: canon powers flicker on and off, as do the powers granted by Astoria. You feel more like yourself, you suddenly have access to energies you did not have previously in the Temple However, it's a double-edged sword -- it is not constant, and it may be more trouble than its worth.

And, remember: the Sickness is not fading immediately. If you make it to Stage 3, then you're stuck with sensory deprivation for at least another week or two. Sorry, friends.

lake dona.
Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct.

In addition to the ruins, there are a network of caverns tucked along the water’s edge, just underneath the surface on the western side of Lake Dona, that appear to go underground into murky darkness. The actual entrance to these caverns seem to be underwater, seemingly guarded by merfolk, but poking around may seem to be more trouble than its worth.

There is plenty of wildlife to be found within the lake itself, ranging from freshwater mermaids who would rather you stay the hell out of their backyard to a rather large and suspiciously friendly plesiosaurus-like creature (some would say that she prefers to be called Nessie) that seems intent on checking out who you are. The lake teems with odd-looking fish, most of which seem to be okay to eat, and plenty of plant life! But who knows what lurks in the depths below . . . that giant sea-monster looking thing has to be eating something.
PROMPT IDEAS: Here are some prompt ideas for this new area! However, don't feel limited to such ideas! Feel free to fish, to explore, to swim, to poke around . . . it's always possible Astoria may check in on your character, too, once she is feeling better! ;)

1.) The Great Pumpkin The overgrowth of plants have caused a massive growth spurt in a lot of the trees, including the fruit trees that sprinkle themselves throughout the Temple. However, the fruit themselves seems to be growing at a rather . . . alarming rate, resulting in a few pumpkin-looking squash growing to the size of small boulders in the fields. Hope you have a lot of spare time on your hands to make a hell of a lot of Temple-pie, because these squash aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

2.) Food Fight!: Those damn sprites are at it again, and are collecting fruit off the ground and throwing it at people. Fight back, organize, and conquer! Or not. It's probably better to just not.

3.) Part Of Your World: The mermaids within Lake Dona are a suspicious lot, and they don't take kindly to strangers stomping through their territory. However, they are receptive to music, so if you are so musically inclined, they will definitely be more inclined to be a little more playful than territorial. If you aren't? Have fun getting tossed into the lake head-first by a bunch of pissed off mermaids who want you to get the hell of their lawn. They don't take kindly to your type around here.

4.) Nessie: Within Lake Dona is a massive plesiosaurus-type creature which seems to be . . . oddly friendly? It seems to pop up at the most inconvenient of times. Are you sitting on the edge of the lake enjoying the water? Enjoy a massive ass dinosaur sticking its impressively long neck out of the lake to check you out and also scare the bejesus out of you. That being said, Nessie is an extraordinarily friendly being, and will even give you laps around the lake if you ask nicely!

5.) Caverns: The caverns within the lake are dark, deep, and menacing The merfolk inform you that you cannot go there -- no one can, but the merfolk sure seem to be keeping a careful eye out on it. Testing the boundaries indicates a weird magical field around the entrance of the cave, that works like a bit of a forcefield. Weird, right?

And then you hit a growth spurt, so to speak?

[He reminds himself how strange it is, to apply things like growth to someone who looks so robotic. So much like a synthetic being, though he knows better; it’s oddly fascinating.]

Do you grow at the same rate as, say, a human? Despite the obvious size discrepancies.

It's a little hard to explain.

[ but! he's willing to try. mostly because connor is asking him. the last thing he wants to do is leave a buddy hanging. ]

I used to grow at the same rate as a human, a year for a year, but then I hit five years old and... Um... and I got bigger. [ like- way bigger, as evident by his height. ]

After that? I started ageing more slowly. I think I'm over a hundred and ten? I'm not sure what the equivalent is in terms of Earth time these days.

A hundred and ten?

[Unexpected, and his eyes widen a little in surprise. He files this information away, and once again tells himself that he shouldn't have assumed. What grounds did he have to go by, mere guesswork regarding Daylight's age?

It does cause another query to rise up almost immediately after.]

Earth years or not, that sounds like a lengthy amount of time unless the ones you're used to are exceedingly short. Is this still a young age for someone like you?

[Daylight has all the attributes of someone youthful, but... again, Connor refuses to assume.]

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-10-16 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
Er... Compared to the others I'm with? Yeah. [ but! ] But! I'm old enough to be on Lornful Light and also be here with you guys and everything, I swear.

[ let's make that clear. the last thing he wants is for someone to think, 'a child.' when they're dealing with him. so please don't make him sit out of missions because of his youth and stuff. pretty please?

daylight now tries to keep the conversation going, very much not interested in being forced to admit he's the equivalent of a teenager. more or less, give or take. it's kind of hard to estimate his age when you've got weird biology stuff going down. ]

For comparison's sake- There's my Uncle Kingsguard and my Auntie Breakthrough. I think they've been around for... [ hmmm... hang on, connor... give daylight a second or two to remember some stuff. like how to convert human time units to galateion time units. ] Geez... I think they've both a few billion years old, give or take?

Uncle Kingsguard is, like, the oldest out of everyone I know, though. He was apparently around when the first revolutions against the Essentialists were being held!

[ which is super old! and that's saying something, given how casually daylight is throwing out 'billions' like that. ]

[Well, Connor definitely can't say anything where age is concerned. Daylight is far older than him; this RK800 has only been active for a handful of months at best. Not even half a year.

He listens, LED blinking, indicative of him committing this conversation to memory. Tucked away in some file that defines Daylight as a person... individual? Robot? But how quickly that's tossed out the window when a certain word is used, almost unfathomable-]

Sorry, but you said billions?
sunborne: (045. - 🔥 - SCUFFED.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-10-17 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
... Yeaaaaaah?

[ daylight looks a little nervous now in the wake of connor's question, his helm tilted to the side as his optics fitz in and out in his equivalent of a slow blink.

something makes him realise that this might just be another case of being more 'alien' than 'human' and he isn't sure how to feel about this. he forgot humans were lucky to maybe hit a hundred or so in their lifetimes, and that was very, very old for them. ]

I think Uncle Kingsguard would be, um, ten-billions-years old. [ he waggles his hands in a so-and-so gesture as he speaks. ] Give or take? He knows he's a lot older than that but, at this point, he's forgotten a lot about his life from before. Data creep and all.

Tens billions.

[Connor echoes once more, and he doesn't bother to hide his nigh disbelief at the number. Yes, that was beyond what a human could even hope to fathom -- but for the androids of his world, too.]

That's an inordinately long amount of time. That's... time measured on the scale of the universe itself -- in fact, my own universe is estimated to be almost 14 billion years old. It's-

[insane? amazing?]

-very difficult to comprehend something or someone existing for that long. Without falling into decay or entropy.
sunborne: (045. - 🔥 - SCUFFED.)

[personal profile] sunborne 2018-10-19 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
[ now when connor puts it like that-

daylight scratches the back of his neck, trying to comprehend how... well... how weird it would be to be older than a planet. he knows galateion is a lot older than earth - waaaaay older, if he's remembering the history correct and he's converting units properly - but moments like these remind him that more than ever. ]

I mean... There are some issues with living that long. Data creep, like I said, and frame corrosion. [ he shudders at that point, remembering the awful pictures he saw while studying galateion physiology. 'rust' eating away at the armour and protoform. limbs literally falling apart and unable to be put back on because the joints are gone-

yuck. just awful. ]
Uncle Kingsguard hasn't experienced frame corrosion yet- [ thank goodness. ] -but there are downsides to living that long. I'm worried for the day he'll just forget about Auntie Laura and Uncle Leeds and everyone back home.

[ !!!!!

whoops. way too personal. let's drastically swerve the topic to something else- ]

How old are you, Connor?

[personal profile] bleps 2018-10-20 12:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Data creep, frame corrosion. He supposes he was quick to assume that entropy didn't touch even beings that lived that long. Maybe in the end, some things remained universal. Some things couldn't escape the slowly debilitating encroachment of time, even if it took billions of years for it to show.

He frowns, though, at the mention of forgetting. To forget those close to you, to basically have one's memory reset in a fractured and incomplete way; it could hardly be pleasant for anyone.

The question has them going in a different direction, likely an attempt to change the tone of it all, he assumes. He'll oblige.]

Given the time spent in the Circle? Approximately five months.

[ by the dust and rust-!!

daylight's reaction, in a way, is hilarious - his optics bloom wide in shock as he reels back a bit as if he's been slapped across the face. the sudden burst of light from his optics could be considered almost painful for anyone, should they be looking him in the eye.

he audibly chokes on air, coughing into his fist while his winglets flutter in a panic and surprise and really?? really??? in the moment. his em field isn't any better - the waves he sends out are wildly ringing out with bafflement and nothing more, nothing less.

for a second, daylight wants to believe this is a sort of joke but then he realises that this is connor. connor doesn't strike him as the type to make a joke like this.

oh noooo... ]

Okay- [ deep breath, day. ] Okay okay okay.

Do me a favour and, um, remember this: If Meddy ever asks for your age, whatever reason it is? Lie.

Lie through your teeth and then some, Connor. I sometimes think Uncle Leeds programmed them to pick up the whiff of fear or something.

[He knows that it's utterly young compared to Daylight. Not even a full year, not even half a year -- Connor's a prototype, and a newly-released one, too. Still garnering a bevy of experiences in this place that he couldn't have even guessed at, not when he was back home in Detroit.

But even knowing this, Daylight's reaction is so unexpected that it feels exaggerated. Optics going wide, all startlement which is easily read even if he doesn't exactly have completely human features. An almost-panic, and definitely surprise.

Followed by advice to lie about his age to Meddy, which deftly prompts Connor to follow up with-]

But why? Is there something inherently wrong with how long I've been online?
