( the sickness: phase two )
![]() ![]() the sickness ends. the temple. The Temple, shortly after Astoria's burst of energy, is in a constant state of growth. Trees are bursting into existence from seeds in mere seconds, flowers are growing wherever magic lands . . . and the Temple is abruptly a-buzz with energy, magic crackling throughout the air. You may find a tree in your house, or flowers suddenly growing along the walls, or plants wiggling their way through the stone walls of the buildings of the Temple. All of a sudden, the place looks very overgrown. ![]() lake dona. Lake Dona is a massive body of water, stretching outward for so far that it almost seems like an ocean until you see that the water is fresh. It is surrounded by long, leafy trees that dip into the water and has a variety of ancient ruins scattered around it -- weathered stones set into circles at seemingly even intervals, old buildings that seem to mirror the Temple in construct. |

[ Because he's important to Connor. Because Connor called him a good man, and he knows he wouldn't make that kind of statement lightly. ]

Any interesting stories? Or you could tell me about where you come from.

Door number three it is.]
Uh, Detroit's- I don't know what you already know about it. It's just a city. A big city. Used to be known for making cars, now it's known for all CyberLife's big android manufacturing plants. Got some pro sports shit going on, uh, touristy stuff, art shit, I don't know, the usual. Without knowing much about uh, where you come from it's kinda hard to think of what you even want to know about. I don't know, do you like sports? Or art, or...?
[That's what people small talk about, right? Sports, art, maybe some intellectual bullshit? Something about the weather?]

Ah, well Eorzea’s a lot like… the Temple, I suppose. Not much technology, and what we do have doesn’t even come close to what you’re used to. What tends to pass for sport are the gladiatorial fights in Ul’dah. Personally, I hit things with a sword for a living.
no subject
That's kind of a shame, that that's all you got. I bet you'd be good at sports shit. Connor probably knows how, say, basketball works, or football, or something. I bet he could teach you.
[Preferably Connor. Not so much because he doesn't want bonding time with Arenvald, or whatever, but. Look at him.]

[ He hits other things with swords. Monsters and the physical manifestations of gods and things. His is a charmed life. ]
Basketball and football. Hm. I’ll have to try to remember, if only because now I want to know what they are. Are you not a fan of… sports?

[He gestures to, well, all of him.]
You wouldn’t even need to know the rules to kick my ass. They’re not really that complicated though, as long as you’re just fucking around doing it for fun. Just get the ball in the other guy’s goal, kids probably run around doing the same shit where you’re from, even if you don’t have whole, like... traditions, I guess, around em like we do.
Hard to imagine gladiator shit getting so big there’s no other game in town, though. [He makes a face, obviously not liking the idea.] Weird.

[ Children play catch or kick leather balls around, trying to score points based on some nebulous set of rules they've made up. Arenvald almost envies them that innocent sort of fun. ]
I mean, there are other sorts of sport, hunting and grand tournaments and that sort of thing, but playing with a ball has never quite managed to make the list.

Connor once likened my world to the fantasy stories of your world. Mayhap that gives you a bit better idea of what Eorzea is like.

I think you’re mostly there, only we don’t have elves. We have Elezen. There are actually a couple here in the Circle, they’re friends of mine.

And I corrected you because if you call Alphinaud or Alisaie an "elf", they're not going to have any idea what you're talking about.
[ Or possibly get offended? Who knows! ]

So they evolved like, the same time humans did or what? I mean, mandatory 'I can't believe I'm asking about elf evolution like it's a real thing' disclaimer, dream logic, blah, but it's kind of an interesting idea. Cause we sort of had something like that - I couldn't tell you the details, I'm not really a history guy, not that far back - but I think they died out when we started getting big, so humans are it now. I guess that's not what happened with, uh- [Asking about fantasy world history is one thing. Saying Elezen seriously like it's a real thing, that's a little much. Baby steps.] -with those guys, is it?
no subject
I’m… not entirely certain I follow. Elezen are just… just another race. I know from Connor that all you have are humans - which we call Hyur, by the way - but where I come from there are all sorts of different races. They’ve got some unique traits and mayhap there are some differences between the various tribes within those races, but I wouldn’t say one is older or newer than the others.
[ Don’t ask him about legit dinosaurs, Hank. Eorzea has those too. ]
no subject
Hyur. Kinda sounds like a noise you'd make when you get hit by a basketball to the face.
[He says it absently, trying to decide whether to ask the question that's in his head, sounding almost hesitant once he does.]
Is it any, uh... Any better? Without humans in the driver's seat? I mean, like I said I never read much of that kind of thing but it always kind of seemed like the elves and the dwarves and, I don't know, hobbits and shit, like they were all buds, like if shit did go down between, uh, their people or whatever, it was never too bad.
I don't know. Someone just, uh, there's some android here who said humans died off on his, uh, his Earth a long time ago, I guess I was just wondering what that was like. If we weren't in charge.
no subject
People are still people, Hank. Whether they've pointed ears or stand only three feet tall. We have war and hatred just the same as anywhere else, but we have the good things too. Hope. Love. Life.
no subject
Hank makes a slow, exasperated 'eh' noise, flapping his hand at Arenvald like he can physically bat the optimism away.]
So they're not that different, is what you're saying. Just the same old assholes, when you get down to it. Shoulda figured.
