[OPEN] Well. That Didn't Go Quite As Planned
Who: EVERYONE
Where: The Temple of Beginnings
When: Immediately After The End.
Rating: PG-13, may vary by thread
What: You fall, you pick yourself back up and you move on. Or at least, you try.
Fished Out Of Water
One minute, you are witnessing the fabric of an entire world implode as it is literally ripped apart by powers unknown. The next, that tell-tale twist somewhere beneath your sternum, before you are bodily YANKED away from Akvos, away from the ocean and the Queen and the King and the Princess.
And land back on (mostly) solid, dry ground.
Welcome back to the Temple of Beginnings. Don't worry, there's no hurry for you to get back up just yet.
Hey, Howya Doin'?
Once you do get back up, now is the time to be taking stock of the situation - yours, your friends, and even those new merfolk neighbours (who may need a hand getting their fins back into the water). There is also the missing members of the Circle to consider: people who disappeared on the journey to Akvos, and those who never made it back..
(There's also that small matter with a certain 'witchess-san' that may be a cause for concern to some more than others.)
Whatever the case, it's a lot to process right now. Take the time you have, because you don't know if it'll be enough for what you need.
[[ OOC: Here's an open post for threads reacting to the end of the Akvos world hop. Feel free to use the above prompts, and/or make your own! ]]

I.
The kitchen is not deserted when Hughes makes his way in, though the occupant is not immediately visible; there's a burlap bag on the central table with fruit-shaped bulges, and assorted odds and ends atop a chopping block.
Across the room, something goes THUMP, and there's cursing from behind the door to the pantry before it swings open, Vex hopping in annoyance while trying not to drop whatever it was she retrieved from below. ]
For fffffffffuck's sake, fuckfuckfuck who even put that--Oh. [whoops. she's not alone? Vex stops mid-hop, and her voice takes on a more formal tone] ..Uh. Here for a midnight snack, too?

Not exactly...though I guess it's later than I thought it was. Coffee might not be the best idea after all.
Are you all right by the way? That sounded painful.

[ The content of one such box is deposited on the table: a slab of very red raw meat. ]
That's up to you. My--Percival, one of family back home, never found a time where coffee wasn't appropriate. [which did not help his bad sleep habits in the slightest] The moon is.. well, no longer at its high point, but I can never predict how long it'll last here. To be honest, I haven't been hungry, which probably means I should eat something, and since I'm not sleepy..
[a shrug, then a gesture at the ingredients: mushrooms, some onions and carrots, and of course the meat; next to them lie a number of long skewers]

I have missed coffee. I could probably use a pot right now. [So he's talked himself into it. So he crosses over to where the supplies for it are stored and begins pulling out the grounds and a filter.]
So you're going to make kebabs? I would ask if you need a hand, but those aren't very difficult I suppose.

A knife is picked up, spun just as Vax once taught her, then she begins the process of cutting up the meat, splitting the vegetables in half, whatever is needed for cooking. ]
You're welcome to join me for some, if you like. I have a large fire going outside, and it never hurts to have an extra hand when carrying food out.
[ And company would be nice. Not that she doesn't love Trinket, but there's only so much hugging for bears that can be tolerated, even for Vex. ]
no subject
That would be appreciated. I don't think I've had a decent meal in awhile if I'm being honest.
[As he starts preparing the coffee he does try to remember the last time he ate anything substantial. However, between trying to usher civilians away from attacks, keeping an eye on Roy, and then the world ripping itself in half...there hadn't been much time to eat.]
Besides, I doubt I'll be going back to sleep any time soon.

[ And it's not fish. For reasons besides the obvious, that makes this much more preferable. And savoury is what the tongue craves tonight, rather than something sweet.
She lapses into silence as she concentrates on peeling some of the vegetables, the scent of coffee leaving her feeling wistful. It makes her miss home, miss her family. She may start sticking things onto skewers with a little more force than necessary accordingly. ]
That seems to be catching. I envy anyone able to get a full night's sleep any time soon that doesn't require drugs or potions. Or alcohol. [do they even have any alcohol worth drinking around here?]

[He's accepted that nothing is ever going to come close to his wife's cooking, so he's not even going to bother getting his hopes up. While she focuses on the skewers, he keeps his attention on preparing the coffee. It's certainly a strange mix of smells, but not necessarily an unpleasant one.]
If people are in their beds, I doubt they'll be getting much sleep, as you say. It's not an easy thing...what we just experienced.
[He sets out two mugs.]
Are you a coffee drinker like the family member you mentioned?

[ That it ended as it did, after all they'd been working to achieve.. Sometimes shit happens and there really isn't anything they can do about it. It reminds her of Emon, except worse: at least something remained after, at least the attack was to conquer.
She sets her jaw a moment, and the chopping gets a little abrupt for a bit until she can swallow down feelings, and respond to his other query with--
A pause, and an odd expression of longing; whoever she misses, it's not just in the traditional family sense. Then a nod, with a lopsided smile. ]
Not so much, but I enjoy it from time to time. I'm about done with these, I'll carry them while you bring mine?
no subject
Sure. It'll at least help with the cold alongside that fire you mentioned.
[He picks up the mugs, ready to follow her out to the cooking fire.]
