Fished Out Of Water
One minute, you are witnessing the fabric of an entire world implode as it is literally ripped apart by powers unknown. The next, that tell-tale twist somewhere beneath your sternum, before you are bodily YANKED away from Akvos, away from the ocean and the Queen and the King and the Princess.

And land back on (mostly) solid, dry ground.

Welcome back to the Temple of Beginnings. Don't worry, there's no hurry for you to get back up just yet.


Hey, Howya Doin'?
Once you do get back up, now is the time to be taking stock of the situation - yours, your friends, and even those new merfolk neighbours (who may need a hand getting their fins back into the water). There is also the missing members of the Circle to consider: people who disappeared on the journey to Akvos, and those who never made it back..

(There's also that small matter with a certain 'witchess-san' that may be a cause for concern to some more than others.)

Whatever the case, it's a lot to process right now. Take the time you have, because you don't know if it'll be enough for what you need.

That's assuming we can make sense of the details or that we even witnessed all of the details that are pertinent.

[He sighs, jotting down something on a piece of paper.]

But, I guess that's like any case. You don't always have all of the information and you have to fill in the missing pieces with conjecture. Now you just throw in magic and other worlds and that just makes it all the more difficult.

Maes, you're crushing my desperate attempts at optimism.

[Barabas mock scolds.] You're right though. I'd say we're in over our heads, but I'm so sick of water that I don't even want to make the pun.

[Sadly enough.]

Throwing in magic always complicates things. My world has been reeling from it for more than forty years now, and we're still just barely coping in many cases.

Oh, I thought we were dealing in facts.

[It's a little more snippy that is usually characteristic of Maes. He sighs tiredly and shoots Barabas an apologetic look.]

Sorry. You're right though, we could use some good news now, but I'm not sure how to find a silver lining in all this.

[Barabas can't hold it against the man at all, so he only offers a faint smile in return.]

There might not be much of one. Sometimes there isn't.

[Barabas is quite certain Maes is a man who knows that too well.] But facts. We're still here. Most of us at least have made it back physically intact. Some of the merfolk landed with us. So no we have to do the best we can for them, and we learn what we can so this doesn't happen again.

[If they can do anything to stop it when the situation arises.]

[If that isn't the honest truth. His thoughts have been turning to Ishval again, but at least after that he'd gotten to marry Gracia. He starts twirling a pen between his fingers again. Maybe he should deal with it as he had done when he'd been a country away from Gracia...now he was a whole world but in the end was there much of a difference.

Well, there was, it wasn't like he could actually send her something. His eyes drift to the picture of Elysia he'd pinned to the wall over the desk he tended to frequent.]

I imagine many of them are separated from the people they care about too. Do you know if anyone has gone to speak with them yet?

[Barabas sees the way that Maes looks at that picture. He doesn't have children himself, he can't imagine what it must feel like being kept from them.

He nods at what Maes has to say.] A new world and not all of them with everyone they might hope.

[A moment's hesitation before he nods.] Very briefly, only to find out that they had arrived here. Some at least.

They arrived en mass, but it's not so different than from how we arrived here. We should probably try to maintain at least a semi-positive relationship with them. We can't exactly hang out underwater like we did on their world, but checking in on them more than once wouldn't hurt.

[He'd seen first hand what could happen to a people displaced from their homeland. He hopes the same thing doesn't play out here.]

I can't say I know the king's men as well, but I spoke with several of the Queen's people while I was doing research in their library and then during evacuation. I'll see if any of them are willing to talk more...though I'm not sure what's the right amount of space to give them for this kind of thing.

[If they thought it was hard dealing with the loss of a world, he could only imagine if it had been HIS home. Would he want to speak with anyone or just be left to mourn?]

They'll need their own time, but it's likely a good idea to offer what help we can.

{Whatever that may be. Some of what they need will likely simply be time. He nods his agreement to Maes' plans.]

I'll see if I can spot any familiar faces as well.

[And maybe they can work out more of what happened in their world too.]
