welcome to the horologium.
![]() ![]() welcome to the horologium. Some of you know it is coming. The World Jump, the chaotic thrust into a new universe. But some of you are new, and though you know what the mission is, it is a bit . . . troubling, sitting around and waiting for something to happen. But eventually, you get a message on your watch. It shows Astoria . . . dark hair framing her features, her voice light and musical. She sounds like herself, for the first time in some time . . . that spark of determination back in her eyes. A MESSAGE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WITCH.
![]() THE AWAKENING. When you wake, you are greeted by metal — there’s an expanse of silver all around you. The cot you’re laying on is somewhat rigid, like a flattened wedge of cotton more than anything, encased in a capsule-like structure. Should you inspect your surroundings, you’ll find that there are three more cots in your room..or more notably, another person in the room in of itself. Depending on where you’ve been roused from your slumber, however, you’ll find that your circumstances differ. ![]() WHISPERS IN THE DARK. In a way, it feels as though you’re suspended in time. ![]() INVESTIGATIONS The ship is fitted to house approximately 500 people — it’s a bit of a ghost town, however, lived in but abandoned no less. Additionally, please feel free to write up and work with your own prompts! These areas of the world are presented as jumping off points for your characters, not limitations. The idea of this world- as with all the others- is to explore -- you may use as much leeway as you want in order to come up with what your character will do. If you have any other questions, please feel free to ask them back on the various threads back in the OOC post from before! |

I'll catch up with him later. Shiro and his friends know a lot more about tech than I do. I have a feeling I'm not going to be of much use in the research department here.
[He'd gotten some experience on the robot world, but it had been awhile and that had mostly been guess work and a lot of help from the others.]
Right...actually I've seen you wear that outfit quite a bit. If I'm around I could always try to summon them for you. I've been working on teleporting items to myself. But, yeah, let's avoid that if possible.

[Tough to concentrate on exploring the stars when ancient horrors and magic are at your doorstep, and technology only works some of the time.]
It's sadly one of my only options -- which is part of the problem. Clothes won't survive my shapeshift if I'm wearing them when I change forms. So instead I get to strip and then go try to hunt down my clothes when I change back.
[It's awesome let him tell you. But now he's curious.] So you can call items to yourself? Any limitations on distance or type of item?
no subject
I guess we haven't exactly had an opportunity to obtain more clothes, huh?
[The previous two worlds hadn't exactly lent themselves to shopping.]
I have to be familiar enough with the item to picture it very clearly, so it couldn't be just something random to bring to me. And my teleportation limit is within a five mile radius -- that was one of the first things I tested when I was told I had an ability and I figured out what it even was.
[For a man who had considered himself 'normal' before arriving here, he'd come a pretty long way to adapting with his ability.]
no subject
[He cracks a smile at that, but given his current form it's not a very pleasant expression. Too many teeth.
But he nods at Maes' description of his ability.]
Five miles is a pretty good stretch. Not bad. Can you make sequential jumps?
no subject
I guess we haven't really discussed my abilities before. Yeah, I can make sequential jumps if needed. I can take other people with me too.
no subject
[Sorry, Hughes. Barabas is the type to want to know the possible implications and uses of what they have in their arsenal. And that sounds like quite a trick if it can be done.]
no subject
[He scratches his chin in thought. Testing the idea in his head.]
I don't see why I couldn't though. I can already teleport people by touching them, I imagine the same rules would apply. If I know a person well enough I don't see why I couldn't do that. [He shoots Barb a wry grin.] You volunteering to be a guinea pig?
no subject
[Kind of amusing though? Sometimes.
The redhead lifts an eyebrow at the question and well, the truth of the matter is,] Yeah, I guess I am. What do you know.
[Why not?]
no subject
[Shouldn't people be used to Maes popping up unexpectedly by now? That's really more on them. Maes tilts his head.]
Well, we can always test it. This ship appears to be only occupied by us and neither of us are really tech minded. Let's try a little magic test instead, shall we?
no subject
[He's just saying.
But well. The redhead nods his agreement. He's up for magical experimentation for the greater good.]
Let's do it. Just make sure you teleport me all in one piece.
no subject
If it's any reassurance, any time I've tried to teleport an object and didn't know it well enough it simply didn't go anywhere. I think you'll be okay.
[Maes turns around and takes a few steps away from Barabas. coming to a stop about ten feet away. They could experiment with distance later. At the moment this was more a test to see if it was even possible to teleport another individual without touching them. Maes returns to facing Barabas, he figures line of sight will be helpful.]
Alright. First test.
[He decides a count down will cause too much anxiety. Instead he focuses on Barabas's presence. He'd been spending several months in a make-shift office with the man now. They'd shared a lot in that time, so Maes knows more than just the superficial appearance, for a person it's important to know more than that, it's also about a kind of energy they give off -- the feelings tied to that person. He focuses on that, on the feeling of Barabas beside him and how that makes him feel. Maes finds the cord, but instead of pulling himself along it, he tugs at Barabas's presence instead.
If it works Barabas will likely feel a tug, a twist in gravity, and then he'll be at Maes's side.]
no subject
[As long as he doesn't wind up in multiple pieces, he's all for giving this a go. Barabas watches Maes put some distance between them. Okay, good good. Small distance at first makes sense.
And since he's just the test subject, he waits.
Then he feels it, that pull. His eyes widen and then yep, here he is, right next to Maes, blinking at him. Barabas stares for a moment before a grin stretches over his face.]
Guess it works. Pretty good.
no subject
I figured it would work. Normally when I want to teleport to people I go to them, but I had a feeling that I could make it work the opposite way as well.
no subject
[Barabas nods, before adding.] Weird feeling though. But you must know that.
[The whole teleporting thing.]
no subject
[He's starting to appreciate a little more Shiro's insistence that they practice with their abilities and learn the limitations to work around.]
You get used to that feeling.
no subject
[There are a lot of hero types among them. And Barabas knows that type. That type doesn't always consider their own safety before charging into the fray.]
You get used to a lot of things, I think. Best talent humanity has. It's the only way any of us survived what happened in my world.
no subject
[Aside from keeping the office records updated, Maes tended to spend the other half of his free time working with his abilities -- especially after Akvos.]
I've experienced as much myself...and I guess in a sense I'm living it. I didn't have any kind of special ability back home. [He grins, giving Barabas a teasing wink.] Unless you count managing to marry the best woman in the world a special ability.
no subject
[The redhead shakes his head. What a dork this guy.]
But for someone who isn't used to having magic, you've made a good go at it.
