Who: Yang, Ren, Shiro, Keith, Morrigan, Ruki, and Barabas Where: The Horologium When: A few hours after arrival Rating PG What: an unlikely group of heroes band together to face their biggest nemesis yet: a door.
[ nice. yang watches them work for a bit before she winds her arm up and readies a punch. but she doesn't want to do it without letting them know, especially since they might accidentally step in the line of fire and get hurt. ]
[Barabas releases his grip, and with a very elaborate flourish of a very clawed hand, he gestures for her to go for it, even as he steps back to give her room.]
[Ren does one last, more forceful levering of his sword into the door, wrenching it out as much more as he can with that motion, before stepping back as well, resting the prongs of his sword on the ground with both hands on the hilt.]
Right, right, go ahead~ [He's starting to get a little tired even in this form, so he figures it's probably best to stop now anyway in case this form turns out to take exhaustion a little better than he normally does.]
[ yang nods and takes a step back, winding up her cybernetic arm before she goes in for the punch. she lets out a loud cry--a battle cry, more like--and gives the door the mightiest punch she can muster.
and boy, is it a good one. it doesn't only dent the door, but it caves inwards, and with a little more prying? this thing's going down.
[Barabas would whistle his approval of the whole maneuver if he were physically capable of it. But as it is, hyenas can't whistle. So he just nods his head.]
A good heave or two and I think we've got this. Ren? Shall we?
[He finds a good grip again, absolutely ready to end this door situation.]
Hmm, I guess... [He lets out a little breath like it's extra effort for him, but he's still smiling a little as he steps up to the other side of the door again and rams his sword into it that little bit harder, ready to start levering it again.]
Three...two...one... [He shoves at the hilt of his sword, making the blade push back against the door once more. It's probably a good thing the sword is so short and wide, because a longsword might not have been ideal for this.]
[A satisfied sounds as the door finally falls, and Barabas is inclined to smile back, despite the fact that a smile on his current face is all tooth and fang and half-hyena sharpness.
But then his expression changes, eyes growing sharper as he peers past Yang.]
Rot.
[Just that word as he scents the air, moving further inside.]
[Ren lets out a grateful-sounding little huff as the door comes down, resting his sword by his side for the moment. He doesn't want to change back just yet until they establish that the room doesn't contain anything they might need to fight or trap again, but he follows Barabas in fairly promptly. There's an impression of...mustiness, almost, that strikes him as soon as he passes the boundary, and Barabas' remark on the smell certainly tracks.]
Oh, is that what that is...I thought it smelled kind of weird, but I couldn't quite tell what it was...
[That said, now that he's focusing on it more, there's something about it that strikes him as more familiar. It'd have to be sharp to even a human nose if it was any sort of flesh, but it does smell organic, so...plants is his initial guess here.]
[The way Barabas is talking about it has Ren more confident that his initial guess was probably accurate, and he wanders off to one side, following where he has the strongest impression of the scent so they're not just all looking in the same place.]
It's rotten plants, right? Like a garden... [That raises a wide variety of questions, though, and once he actually finds one of the patches of decomposing plant matter, he bends down to look at it more closely.]
So how long is it that the crew here has been gone if a food source like this is so badly rotted...? [Or what exactly did whatever is on this ship do to it to put it in that condition?]
Mmm, I haven't talked to that many people about powers yet, I haven't been here long...and you haven't either, right? [That's addressed to Yang, because to Ren's knowledge, they both showed up at the same time and that was a few weeks ago at this point. It's really not long to try and get an idea of what abilities everyone has.]
Maybe we should ask about it later. It'd be weird if there wasn't someone who could work with plants.

it's enough. the door finally falls, and yang steps back, crossing her arms over her chest. ]
Well would you look at that.
[ and then...she turns to ren and barabas with a smile. ]
Nice job, guys!

Ugh!
[ it's just bad, ok. but. she does walk in with them, shining her flashlight around. ]

[Maybe. But a lot of it is decomposing, and that isn't good.
They could really use food, honestly. Their supplies are limited.]

[ she's trying to look for any signs of life. anything that can be salvaged. so far...it doesn't look to good. but it's a clue. ]
I don't know. Judging by the state of everything on this ship, it's been way too long.
[ obviously. ]

[Which is an understatement. Barabas frowns and looks around once more. No, all of this seems... unusable.]
Is there anyone whose magic works with plants?
