When you wake up, you are in a room. It looks to be relatively well-decorated, rustic. The bed is comfortable, the linens clean, and the quilt is nice. You can hear the bustle of people outside. The city is beginning to wake. You do not have the opportunity to look into a mirror, or anything else: there's bang on the door. "Oi! Breakfast is bein' served! Get your asses up or you're not eatin'!" Coming outside the room reveals that you seem to be in an inn. There are dozens of rooms along the halls, and a massive eating space below. There are wall to wall tables stacked with food, drink, and people sitting down to eat. They may look strange and unique to some of you. There are people with elongated ears, talking dragon-folk, bird-people, and regular humans. It's a diverse crowd, boisterous and loud, laughing and joking. Before you can really catch your bearings, a friendly dwarvish woman bustles past, calling over her shoulder: "Never been to Mirabar, have you?" And, before you can really respond to her, your watch lights up. A NOTE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WITCH. "Oh, look at that! It worked! It actually worked! I can see . . . oh, look at you! You look fantastic! What a delightful world! I am positively green with envy!"
The noise from Astoria sounds delighted, and those who have experienced world jumps before will know that Astoria reaching out after the jump is a bit . . . unusual. Usually, she can't communicate -- and while the image is fuzzy, it is definitely there, and she's speaking rather quickly.
"I hope you enjoy your time in Faerun; the magic in that world is quite powerful, and it looks like a few of you are fitting in just fine . . . remember, find joy in the darkness, and please do your best to help these people! It seems like they just need a bit of fun. And don't forget, whatever you do, don't forget to-"
And then, the image cuts off.
Welcome to Mirabar -- a city full of magic, adventure, kayak racing, and quite a lot to do. The main central city itself, the capital, is a walled fortress, with a forest surrounding it, and a small cluster of villages outside of the walls itself. The Guard allows you to stray the perimeter of Mirabar, but anything further will get you a one-way ticket right back to the city gates. Don't worry, though! There is certainly plenty to do, both within the walled city and in the surrounding outskirts.
LOCALITIES.Mirabar is a smaller city Faerun, but it has a rich history, a long-suffering head of state who employs adventurers on the regular, and the eager people here to meet you, employ you, and entertain you.
There are be taverns to frequent, inns to stay in, a guild to pick up adventuring jobs, farm work, mining work, welding work. The most desperate thing that Mirabar needs is for people to lend a hand. It may not be the most exciting job, but it will be appreciated. ➜ The Silver Blade is an adventuring guild is operated by a plethora of folks, but the elvish woman at the counter seems to be the one in charge. A series of tasks will be available for you to take up, ranging from deliveries through dangerous parts of the outskirts of town, to slaying monsters. The woman seems to be willing to pay in coin, so long as you bring back what she asks for. She doesn't tolerate nonsense.
➜ The Dusty Coffer is a tavern that looks to be rough-and-tumble, but full of good food, good drink, and good music. There’s a bard that lingers in the back who is willing to take on new students/performers, and can pay, too! You can get any range of fare here, and while it’s not a five-star establishment, the food and drink is delicious.
➜ The Blacksmith’s Burden doubles as a mine and a blacksmith’s forge. You can put in a day’s hard work here and buy weaponry. On one hand, you can learn how to make your own stuff! On the other hand, you can totally just buy stuff. They also sell basic tinkering tools and other materials to forge your own equipment. The entire establishment is run by an eager young half-elf named Dillon. He's missing two fingers. It was probably an accident.
➜ The Heroes' Hearth is the neighborhood inn, specifically designed to tailor to adventurer's! It is the main hub of where the Circle will be staying. You will need to pay for your rooms. They're cheap, but the keeper of the Heroes' Hearth (a delightful dwarvish woman named Hilda) is a strict mistress. She expects proper payment when payment is due! She is also a wonderful cook, and will feed you until you explode.
➜ There is a library, full of texts concerning the history of Mirabar and Faerun. There is also a fishing yard by the river. It is full of little boats and leather-strapped kayaks, which transport goods in and out of the city. There are also shops to purchase clothing, basic tools, and ingredients for spellcraft.
➜ It's a robust city with a focus on steel weaponry. You won't find a lot of magical weaponry, but you may get lucky at the Widow's Weep. It is a weird little thrift store run by an eccentric dragonborn who seems to have a lot of broken magical wares. They're cheap, but may not work correctly. There’s a ton to do, and the people of Mirabar are inclined to help you get settled in (and also help you spend your money). TASK BOARD.There is a giant announcement board of sorts, in the center of town, where the patrons and workers in Mirabar can put up jobs for hire. Suspiciously, the task board seems to be centrally positioned outside of The Silver Blade, the adventurer's guild. Almost as if the guild wants to check out whoever is looking at the tasks . . .
All of the below tasks can be taken up by an unlimited number of people, so if you see a bunch of people signing up for a task you really want to play out - don't be discouraged! Also, remember to submit your work submissions to the appropriate thread on the OOC post.THE SILVER BLADE: Adventurer's Guild.↠ "The village neighboring our own has asked for our help. Predators taken up residence and have been attacking farmers and travelers. Beware, for they are wolf-like creatures, equipped with poisonous fangs and impeccable hearing. It’s your job to evacuate the village, take care of the threat and ensure that nobody gets caught in the crossfire. Need 2-4 Adventurers; the work is difficult. Will pay 100 GP per wolf head, 500 GP max reward."
↠ "The alleged “prison” in Darkwood hardly serves its purpose. A group of prisoners escaped, and you've got to put them back where they belong. Far from a surprise when thieves run this town. Just one prisoner will do, unless you’re desperate for coin. Be careful; they’re seasoned rogues and will do anything to escape your grasp. 100 GP dead, 500 GP alive. We would prefer the idiot alive."
↠ “A woman named Fionn lives across Blackwater Bridge — she needs you to deliver a satchel of love letters to a man who will remain unnamed. It’s a secret, you see. She would take them herself, but she her family is too prestigious for her to afford any...gossip. The journey will require you to go through the Nymph’s Forest, and they have a knack of casting mind altering spells. This will be a bit of a recurring thing, so try not to read them, will you? 50 GP for delivery, minus 5 GP for every love letter lost. No reimbursements for injuries."
↠ “There are a particular set of nasty creatures that are inhabiting the eaves in the nearby Temple. Ordinarily, I would tell the priest to deal with it, but he seems to be convinced that they’re of an evil nature. I personally think they are just bats, but check them out, will you? Apparently they spew some sort of acid. I would bring a coat. 5 GP per 5 sets of bat wings. Bonus 15 GP if you bring one back alive."
↠ “This is a bit of an unsavory task, but...if you’re willing to betray the law a bit, you’ll be rewarded appropriately. An aristocrat in Zledfield is in possession of a prized, ethereal jewel that once belonged to the Convocation of Witches and Wizards of our city. It’s incredibly powerful and enables one to harness any power they might desire with a single tough. But he’s stolen it, and we need to steal it back. Sneak into his manor and return to us safely. Try to avoid the guards. And the attack gryffons. And the mote. And the very man himself. 2500 GP available for the successful retrieval of the gem.” THE DUSTY COFFER: Tavern.↠ “Come hither, ladies, gentlemen and everything in between! Looking for the richest of riches? Put on a play that brings in the crowd. We were thinking, ah...what was it? Romulus and Judith? Or Hamlamb, Aladjinn, oh...whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure it’s good! 8 SP per performance, plus tips!”
↠ “Hey. You hear about Rhug’s warning? The man who runs this joint? He’s been complainin’ about how the mead’s been going missing...well, I know you need the coin — not hard to tell from how you look. I’ve been selling it under the table for a steal, and let’s just say my pockets have been fuller than ever. You help me smuggle some out and you’ll get a good cut of my profits. 50 GP per load, cut in half if you lose some product.”
↠ “We’re always in need of bartenders and cooks, and our last cook enchanted our damn cutlery. It keeps singing and dancing in the kitchens, like it’s some kind of musical. Bards . . . anyway, we’d appreciate the help trying to tame them. Looks like singing along with them shuts them up for a time, but we’ve got to get food out sooner rather than later. 8 SP for a night's work, plus tips."
↠ “Some of patrons keep bringin’ their kids around here, but we can’t serve the little ones. But there’s no point in throwing a good customer to the wind, is there? We’ve got a big room upstairs. Babysit for the night and you’ll get something good out of it...we can negotiate. Reward is 8 CP per kid, plus a free round of drinks for you and your mates.” THE BLACKSMITH'S BURDEN: Mining/Forging.↠ "We’re in desperate need of ore, and the caves have got some sort of flying bat-things wanderin’ about… lady down at the Silver Blade says they’re just bats, but the priest has got ‘em too, and I’m tellin’ you, those fucking things aren’t bats. They melt your steel and everything . . . anyway, bring up some ore for us, and we’ll pay you in weaponry, if you like."
↠ “We’ve got a big order from the Council to make a bunch of decorations to throw up around the lamp fixtures, for the big festival . . .and we need a lot of painting done. Grab a brush and help us paint up these lamp posts in our colors, and careful not to mix them up! We don’t need bright yellow garish lookin’ stuff, alright? We'll give you some supplies and 5 CP an hour worked.”
↠ “Created a new sword fit for dragon slayin’. I want to see it in action — you mind using it in the local tournament comin’ up this week? Win and they’ll give you a handsome earning. Lose and well, you’ll still get somethin’ from me...a win win situation, ain’t it? 150 GP for winning the tournament, win-lose, you get the sword."
↠ "We've got rats. They're fuckin' everywhere. I'm thinking Rodrick had somethin' to do with it, pissed off that sorceress at the Silver Blade proper . . . anyway, I'll give you 5 CP per rat. I'll double it if you drop it off on her doorstep."
THE FISHING YARD: And surrounding areas.↠ “Help me…! I’m a failure of a sorceress...my love potion fell flat. But my presentation is in an hour...if you could just — if you and a friend of yours could just...take a sip in front of the audience and pretend like you’re MADLY in love, I’ll pay you well! I promise! Both of you! And I’ll create any kind of potion you desire...the other ones work just fine, I assure you!”
↠ “I need some fisherman ready to catch The Big One . . . or that’s what I call the little bastard evadin’ me. It’s a big beauty, with rainbow scales and big teeth . . . I just want the meat, but I’ll give you the scales and teeth, plus treat you to dinner with a friend if you help me catch it!”
↠ “Boat races, boat races! We need to practice for the big race at the festival! We’re testing out a new type of kayak, and sure, it might have a few . . . buoyancy problems, but that’s what we need you lot to test it for, yeah? We’ll pay you 9 SP per ride, 1 GP if you win the race without sinking, and you get to test drive a new enterprise!”

Klan Klang | Genasi Barbarian (Earth)
[Klan doesn't usually need to get shouted out of bed, so she sits upright immediately as soon as she hears the banging on the door. And then realises, on that note, that she hasn't banged her own head against the ceiling despite the fact that this room seems to be proportioned to human size and not her own size.
Scrambling out of bed, she passes by the mirror and then stops, briefly, before she has the chance to step outside. It's...bizarre as hell to see herself looking like this, honestly, but it's something she can worry about later when there's not someone yelling at her to eat before she loses the chance.
She strikes a noticeable figure when she steps out into the bar - she's more like seven foot in this form than the ten she's been at the temple, but her skin is made up of a layer of stone akin to raw celestite, opaque white and pale blue-grey patches mingling across it. Her long hair in its four tails are still recognisable, though, even if her headband has changed itself into a wrapped purple scarf made of some kind of light material like chiffon, as is the blunt way she approaches anyone who looks like they might be in the same situation as her here.]
Hey, so, mind explaining what the hell is going on with this place and why we look like this? [And why she suddenly has a huge axe slung over her back, for that matter, but first things first.]
--
[b: out and about]
(i.)
[Being that Klan is from a warrior race anyway, and she only feels more settled into the feeling of being a warrior here, it's inevitable that she ends up finding her way to the blacksmith. It's kind of tempting to buy a nicer axe, but she doesn't want to burn all her money almost as soon as she's gotten here, and she has to admit that she's finding the blacksmithing process kind of interesting.
It's enough that it takes anyone else in the shop getting close to her to distract her from the sight, starting slightly and glancing over to them.] Oh, what, did you need something? I was kind of...well, I've never seen weapons like this being made before.
(ii.)
[Weirdly enough considering the impression Klan gives off normally, her next stop on her ventures around the town is the library. If she's meant to be working in this place for the next month or two, she'd like to know a little bit about it and what she should be expecting to deal with. So while the lack of computers is annoying, she's definitely not unused to the old fashioned way of just grabbing a stack of books and pushing on through.
She might've forgotten how dicey book stacks can get, though, and anyone browsing the shelves is liable to get a ridiculously tall pile of books toppling towards them when the balance of Klan's stack inevitably slips.]
Shit, look out--!
--
[c: task board]
[This sort of picking up of odd jobs is something Klan is somewhat used to given her career as part of a somewhat mercenary military force, and she lets out an almost relieved sigh as she reads over some of the listings. Economy isn't really something she cares about, but this sort of stuff she can deal with.
If anyone else comes up to the board, she'll turn her head to them and nod in greeting.]
You need some extra muscle for something, I'm open for it. This kind of thing, I get.
[[This is a quest wildcard - Klan is up for basically any quest that involves fighting or protecting, though she can probably be talked into most of the others as well! To skip the task board section, feel free to reply with which quest you want to do and I can write a specific starter, or you can write one when tagging in!]]

[[For anything else, feel free to hit me up on the OOC post, Discord, or
b2
She's fairly easy to spot too, a tall humanoid cat is hard to overlook. Black fur covers her body, though most of it is concealed by a dark red cloak. If Klan is familiar with black panthers at all, that's probably what Carmen will remind her of.
She's got her own nose in a book and appears to not notice at first that the pile is about to tumble her way. Except then there's a flick of her tail and she's rolled out of the way, springing back up onto her feet. The book she was reading still miraculously in her hand. Carmen looks over, amusement shining in her eyes. No harm done and she might have been having a little too much fun having EVEN BETTER reflexes than before.]
Are you going to read all of those?
no subject
It's kind of a relief that the woman can move that fast, though, and Klan lets out a slight breath of relief as she bends down to start picking up some of the books. Maybe two piles would work better.]
Probably not today, but if some of them turn out to be useless, then I can just move on to the next one instead of having to keep getting up and down. And if I know where they are, it'll be easier to find them next time.
[While Klan definitely catches the amusement, she doesn't seem too bothered by it, tone remaining somewhat blunt.] Found anything useful yet yourself?
no subject
That's true. A lot of libraries have a 'Hold' system. You might be able to ask someone at a desk if they can put these aside for you actually.
[Not that Carmen spends a LOT of time in libraries, but she's seen her fair share and knows that's a pretty common feature. She glances back at the book.]
Learning a bit about cats. I've never been one before so I wanted to figure a little bit out before I went too far around town. It's useful to me at least.
no subject
I know about that, but I'm still kinda adjusting to how much here is different to what I'm familiar with. I keep trying not to assume things are going to work the same way.
[Klan, while her culture favours combat, is a strategist even in this kind of situation. It seems wrong, in a way, to just act like things will go the same here.]
Makes sense. I don't know that I could learn all that much about rocks that I don't already know.
no subject
[And that was just the general stuff, many of them also had to adapt to new abilities and even new bodies. It would probably be even more overwhelming if Carmen wasn't used to constant change -- granted even this was an extreme for her.]
Well, maybe not rocks per say. But what you are now might have a lot of abilities and history that's helpful to know. I said cat earlier, but apparently I'm currently in a form of something called a Tabaxi. They're humanoid cats that live a long way from here if I'm understanding the atlas correctly. They're known for wandering and traveling a lot though, so despite being from far away they aren't all that uncommon to see in towns and cities.
[The more she read about them, the more she kind of understood why she might have been turned into one. Although it was hard to pin down if that was Astoria's doing or something about this world. Perhaps she'd ask upon their return.]
I might have seen a few mentions of rock-like people in one of the books I was reading earlier, if you want me to find it again that is...
no subject
[While the point of the Frontier had been to be a slice of Earth rather than seem like a spaceship, the futuristic trappings of it had been inescapable as a part of living on the ship. Having been pulled here just after they landed on a habitable planet, she hadn't had the chance to get used to that kind of society again.
At least it sounds like this woman's had some success, and Klan notes the information in case she ends up needing it later.] If it's not too much trouble, it might give me somewhere to start. I wasn't gonna prioritise figuring out what I am, but I'm not gonna ignore it if the chance is there, either.

She doesn't recognize the tall woman with the quartz-like skin as being the tall woman she already knows, at least not at first; she's mesmerized by watching the weapons being made. It's not until she's spoken to that she reacts.
Klan, in turn, will see Sheryl looking very much like Sheryl, except her skin is a pale green, and her hair a darker, leafy color with flowers that look like they're growing in it. Her ears are long and pointed.] Oh, no-- I wanted to see what they were--
[Hang on. She knows that voice.] Klan?!
no subject
It only takes Klan a few moments to recognise Sheryl, which means her eyes narrow into a confused sort of squint at about the same time Sheryl trails off in realisation.]
Yeah, it's me. What are you supposed to be, some kind of elf? [She crosses her arms, a slight smile turning her mouth.] Well, it's not a fairy, but close enough, huh?
no subject
[It's the flowers in her hair, mostly. She likes those.] I could ask you the same question, you... rock-person? Is that what you are?
no subject
[Though she's starting to narrow it down, since the only race she really seems to be finding repeated elemental references with are something called "genasi".] I guess I'll say it suits you, though I have to wonder if everyone got that lucky with being something fitting.
no subject
[She taps a slender finger on her chin, glancing up at Klan-- it's weird having to look up at her, but not as far up as she might have in her real form back home.] Have you met Konoha? Lovely girl; usually part horse. She's human right now, and I think she's getting used to walking on two legs.
no subject
Haven't met her yet...though that sounds like it'd suck to get stuck with. I wonder if there's any humans who are four-legged now.

The paladin thing seems useful though. He guesses. Anyway, he's got a sword, and that seems great.
And honestly the offer that Klan makes is, well, a relief.]
Actually, yeah. Those wolf things sound like they really need to be taken care of. Honestly magical creature round up is something I'm used to, but I'm also used to not doing it alone.
[A tentative smile. Come kill wolf monsters with him? It'll be fun. He pauses and holds out a hand.] I'm Quentin.
no subject
Klan blinks at the extended hand for a moment before remembering her human customs and returning the gesture, though it's a bit rough.] Klan. I dunno about magical, but I've fought some pretty nasty pieces of work before, even if I usually had a fighter plane under me. Brushing up on my melee combat can't hurt.
no subject
[She sounds like she knows what she's talking about. And it does remind Quentin of the errands Arden has sent them on since Chelsea went tearing around through the realms and opening portals she didn't mean to open and letting all sorts of critters out into the human world.]
Do you want to go now? Or later? I guess I don't know what the best wolf-hunting time is.
no subject
That's a concern for later, though, and Klan gives a slight shrug.] I wouldn't want to go at night, I'm pretty sure wolves are supposed to be night hunters if I'm getting my Earth fauna right. So we might as well go now when they're not going to have the advantage.
no subject
[Does he sound grumpy? He's super grumpy. Being human isn't so bad, but there are a bunch of minor things that he's taken for granted in his life that are suddenly just not there anymore -- his ability to see in the dark being one of them. Fae are nocturnal too, after all. Like wolves.]
Now works for me. You're right. maybe we can catch them off their guard. And not wind up eaten.
no subject
With that apparently decided, though, Klan stretches and turns from the board, checking her greataxe and the two smaller axes on her belt.] If they want to eat me, they can try, but I'm feeling like our biggest problem would just be walking into an ambush.

[ Alto needed to adjust his armor to improve the aerodynamics. If it works, he could soar higher and faster --- at least theoretically. He had not expected to see Klan there. Then again, he probably should have contacted her when he woke up as a birdman.
That it is why it was not Klan's fault. Alto had not recognized himself either when he first took a good look at himself in the mirror either. When she spoke to him, he wanted to smile. He would smile, but it was a difficult thing when you have a beak for a mouth.
Fortunately, he could still speak. He really did not understand how the anatomy of this creature worked. Maybe he shouldn't question though. At least communication wouldn't be a challenge. ]
I haven't either. At least not outside a museum.
no subject
Wait, Alto? Damn, and I thought the rock skin was a weird deal to wake up with. [It's not exactly a barrier to recognition, since her hair is still pretty much as it is normally, just with different accessories, but it's definitely an oddity to adjust to.] I guess if you were gonna be anything, though, a bird person would be it.
[She's worked with plenty of pilots, and she's pretty sure Alto wins the award for most obsessed with the skies.] But yeah, this weaponry is pretty ancient even by human standards, isn't it? Puts things here into perspective a bit.
no subject
Yeah, it is a little weird waking up with this ... [ He points at his face. ] You don't look too bad though. It wasn't hard to tell it was you. Then again, I don't think I have met anyone with your hair before.
[ He picks up a dagger and began trying it out. It was heavier than the ones they had back home but it wasn't a problem. For some reason, he was able to handle it like a pro though he never did master it during training. ]
... I did not know I could do that.
no subject
She gives a bit of an understanding nod at Alto's moment with the dagger, though, and reaches back to tap the greataxe slung over her back.] I think this place must've made us familiar with certain kinds of weapons. I've never used one of these old-fashioned human weapons before - other than improvising a bludgeoning weapon, but anyone can do that - but I know how to handle this thing like I've been using it for years.
no subject
Maybe being awesome with weapons was probably a ridiculous thing to complain about. Afterall, it had always been frustrating when the trainers gave him such a hard time. It wasn't just knife training. He was awful at archery. Other than flying, the only other training he showed real promise in was firearms. Unfortunately, none of that was available at the moment. ]
I am glad I still know a everything about aerodynamics. If I keep wearing this armor, I wouldn't be able to stay in the sky for more than a few minutes without hurting myself.
no subject
I guess if there's more people like you around here, then they should have some idea how to make decent armour that's not going to mess you up like that. Though it looks like they've got a pretty huge spread of people to cater for.
