AU INFO: AU QUESTIONS, CLASSES, RACES, STEP BY STEP CHARACTER BUILD GUIDE

When you wake up, you are in a room. It looks to be relatively well-decorated, rustic. The bed is comfortable, the linens clean, and the quilt is nice. You can hear the bustle of people outside. The city is beginning to wake. You do not have the opportunity to look into a mirror, or anything else: there's bang on the door.

"Oi! Breakfast is bein' served! Get your asses up or you're not eatin'!"

Coming outside the room reveals that you seem to be in an inn. There are dozens of rooms along the halls, and a massive eating space below. There are wall to wall tables stacked with food, drink, and people sitting down to eat. They may look strange and unique to some of you. There are people with elongated ears, talking dragon-folk, bird-people, and regular humans. It's a diverse crowd, boisterous and loud, laughing and joking.

Before you can really catch your bearings, a friendly dwarvish woman bustles past, calling over her shoulder: "Never been to Mirabar, have you?"

And, before you can really respond to her, your watch lights up.

A NOTE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WITCH.
"Oh, look at that! It worked! It actually worked! I can see . . . oh, look at you! You look fantastic! What a delightful world! I am positively green with envy!"

The noise from Astoria sounds delighted, and those who have experienced world jumps before will know that Astoria reaching out after the jump is a bit . . . unusual. Usually, she can't communicate -- and while the image is fuzzy, it is definitely there, and she's speaking rather quickly.

"I hope you enjoy your time in Faerun; the magic in that world is quite powerful, and it looks like a few of you are fitting in just fine . . . remember, find joy in the darkness, and please do your best to help these people! It seems like they just need a bit of fun. And don't forget, whatever you do, don't forget to-"

And then, the image cuts off.

Welcome to Mirabar -- a city full of magic, adventure, kayak racing, and quite a lot to do. The main central city itself, the capital, is a walled fortress, with a forest surrounding it, and a small cluster of villages outside of the walls itself. The Guard allows you to stray the perimeter of Mirabar, but anything further will get you a one-way ticket right back to the city gates. Don't worry, though! There is certainly plenty to do, both within the walled city and in the surrounding outskirts.

LOCALITIES.
Mirabar is a smaller city Faerun, but it has a rich history, a long-suffering head of state who employs adventurers on the regular, and the eager people here to meet you, employ you, and entertain you.

There are be taverns to frequent, inns to stay in, a guild to pick up adventuring jobs, farm work, mining work, welding work. The most desperate thing that Mirabar needs is for people to lend a hand. It may not be the most exciting job, but it will be appreciated.
The Silver Blade is an adventuring guild is operated by a plethora of folks, but the elvish woman at the counter seems to be the one in charge. A series of tasks will be available for you to take up, ranging from deliveries through dangerous parts of the outskirts of town, to slaying monsters. The woman seems to be willing to pay in coin, so long as you bring back what she asks for. She doesn't tolerate nonsense.

The Dusty Coffer is a tavern that looks to be rough-and-tumble, but full of good food, good drink, and good music. There’s a bard that lingers in the back who is willing to take on new students/performers, and can pay, too! You can get any range of fare here, and while it’s not a five-star establishment, the food and drink is delicious.

The Blacksmith’s Burden doubles as a mine and a blacksmith’s forge. You can put in a day’s hard work here and buy weaponry. On one hand, you can learn how to make your own stuff! On the other hand, you can totally just buy stuff. They also sell basic tinkering tools and other materials to forge your own equipment. The entire establishment is run by an eager young half-elf named Dillon. He's missing two fingers. It was probably an accident.

The Heroes' Hearth is the neighborhood inn, specifically designed to tailor to adventurer's! It is the main hub of where the Circle will be staying. You will need to pay for your rooms. They're cheap, but the keeper of the Heroes' Hearth (a delightful dwarvish woman named Hilda) is a strict mistress. She expects proper payment when payment is due! She is also a wonderful cook, and will feed you until you explode.

➜ There is a library, full of texts concerning the history of Mirabar and Faerun. There is also a fishing yard by the river. It is full of little boats and leather-strapped kayaks, which transport goods in and out of the city. There are also shops to purchase clothing, basic tools, and ingredients for spellcraft.

➜ It's a robust city with a focus on steel weaponry. You won't find a lot of magical weaponry, but you may get lucky at the Widow's Weep. It is a weird little thrift store run by an eccentric dragonborn who seems to have a lot of broken magical wares. They're cheap, but may not work correctly.
There’s a ton to do, and the people of Mirabar are inclined to help you get settled in (and also help you spend your money).

TASK BOARD.
There is a giant announcement board of sorts, in the center of town, where the patrons and workers in Mirabar can put up jobs for hire. Suspiciously, the task board seems to be centrally positioned outside of The Silver Blade, the adventurer's guild. Almost as if the guild wants to check out whoever is looking at the tasks . . .

All of the below tasks can be taken up by an unlimited number of people, so if you see a bunch of people signing up for a task you really want to play out - don't be discouraged! Also, remember to submit your work submissions to the appropriate thread on the OOC post.
THE SILVER BLADE: Adventurer's Guild.
↠ "The village neighboring our own has asked for our help. Predators taken up residence and have been attacking farmers and travelers. Beware, for they are wolf-like creatures, equipped with poisonous fangs and impeccable hearing. It’s your job to evacuate the village, take care of the threat and ensure that nobody gets caught in the crossfire. Need 2-4 Adventurers; the work is difficult. Will pay 100 GP per wolf head, 500 GP max reward."

↠ "The alleged “prison” in Darkwood hardly serves its purpose. A group of prisoners escaped, and you've got to put them back where they belong. Far from a surprise when thieves run this town. Just one prisoner will do, unless you’re desperate for coin. Be careful; they’re seasoned rogues and will do anything to escape your grasp. 100 GP dead, 500 GP alive. We would prefer the idiot alive."

↠ “A woman named Fionn lives across Blackwater Bridge — she needs you to deliver a satchel of love letters to a man who will remain unnamed. It’s a secret, you see. She would take them herself, but she her family is too prestigious for her to afford any...gossip. The journey will require you to go through the Nymph’s Forest, and they have a knack of casting mind altering spells. This will be a bit of a recurring thing, so try not to read them, will you? 50 GP for delivery, minus 5 GP for every love letter lost. No reimbursements for injuries."

↠ “There are a particular set of nasty creatures that are inhabiting the eaves in the nearby Temple. Ordinarily, I would tell the priest to deal with it, but he seems to be convinced that they’re of an evil nature. I personally think they are just bats, but check them out, will you? Apparently they spew some sort of acid. I would bring a coat. 5 GP per 5 sets of bat wings. Bonus 15 GP if you bring one back alive."

↠ “This is a bit of an unsavory task, but...if you’re willing to betray the law a bit, you’ll be rewarded appropriately. An aristocrat in Zledfield is in possession of a prized, ethereal jewel that once belonged to the Convocation of Witches and Wizards of our city. It’s incredibly powerful and enables one to harness any power they might desire with a single tough. But he’s stolen it, and we need to steal it back. Sneak into his manor and return to us safely. Try to avoid the guards. And the attack gryffons. And the mote. And the very man himself. 2500 GP available for the successful retrieval of the gem.”
THE DUSTY COFFER: Tavern.
↠ “Come hither, ladies, gentlemen and everything in between! Looking for the richest of riches? Put on a play that brings in the crowd. We were thinking, ah...what was it? Romulus and Judith? Or Hamlamb, Aladjinn, oh...whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure it’s good! 8 SP per performance, plus tips!”

↠ “Hey. You hear about Rhug’s warning? The man who runs this joint? He’s been complainin’ about how the mead’s been going missing...well, I know you need the coin — not hard to tell from how you look. I’ve been selling it under the table for a steal, and let’s just say my pockets have been fuller than ever. You help me smuggle some out and you’ll get a good cut of my profits. 50 GP per load, cut in half if you lose some product.”

↠ “We’re always in need of bartenders and cooks, and our last cook enchanted our damn cutlery. It keeps singing and dancing in the kitchens, like it’s some kind of musical. Bards . . . anyway, we’d appreciate the help trying to tame them. Looks like singing along with them shuts them up for a time, but we’ve got to get food out sooner rather than later. 8 SP for a night's work, plus tips."

↠ “Some of patrons keep bringin’ their kids around here, but we can’t serve the little ones. But there’s no point in throwing a good customer to the wind, is there? We’ve got a big room upstairs. Babysit for the night and you’ll get something good out of it...we can negotiate. Reward is 8 CP per kid, plus a free round of drinks for you and your mates.”
THE BLACKSMITH'S BURDEN: Mining/Forging.
↠ "We’re in desperate need of ore, and the caves have got some sort of flying bat-things wanderin’ about… lady down at the Silver Blade says they’re just bats, but the priest has got ‘em too, and I’m tellin’ you, those fucking things aren’t bats. They melt your steel and everything . . . anyway, bring up some ore for us, and we’ll pay you in weaponry, if you like."

↠ “We’ve got a big order from the Council to make a bunch of decorations to throw up around the lamp fixtures, for the big festival . . .and we need a lot of painting done. Grab a brush and help us paint up these lamp posts in our colors, and careful not to mix them up! We don’t need bright yellow garish lookin’ stuff, alright? We'll give you some supplies and 5 CP an hour worked.”

↠ “Created a new sword fit for dragon slayin’. I want to see it in action — you mind using it in the local tournament comin’ up this week? Win and they’ll give you a handsome earning. Lose and well, you’ll still get somethin’ from me...a win win situation, ain’t it? 150 GP for winning the tournament, win-lose, you get the sword."

↠ "We've got rats. They're fuckin' everywhere. I'm thinking Rodrick had somethin' to do with it, pissed off that sorceress at the Silver Blade proper . . . anyway, I'll give you 5 CP per rat. I'll double it if you drop it off on her doorstep."
THE FISHING YARD: And surrounding areas.
↠ “Help me…! I’m a failure of a sorceress...my love potion fell flat. But my presentation is in an hour...if you could just — if you and a friend of yours could just...take a sip in front of the audience and pretend like you’re MADLY in love, I’ll pay you well! I promise! Both of you! And I’ll create any kind of potion you desire...the other ones work just fine, I assure you!”

↠ “I need some fisherman ready to catch The Big One . . . or that’s what I call the little bastard evadin’ me. It’s a big beauty, with rainbow scales and big teeth . . . I just want the meat, but I’ll give you the scales and teeth, plus treat you to dinner with a friend if you help me catch it!”

↠ “Boat races, boat races! We need to practice for the big race at the festival! We’re testing out a new type of kayak, and sure, it might have a few . . . buoyancy problems, but that’s what we need you lot to test it for, yeah? We’ll pay you 9 SP per ride, 1 GP if you win the race without sinking, and you get to test drive a new enterprise!”

e, let's hunt some wolves ig

[Ren is decidedly not experienced in this general area of going out to help random villages, but that's why he's decided to get the assistance of someone who is, a.k.a. Molly, for this wolf problem. It sounds like it's pretty serious, and while he expects there'll be other people picking up the job, it also definitely sounds like there's no harm in having some extra numbers.

There's definitely a bit of a feeling of being watched even as they get near the village, though, and Ren tilts his head a bit from side to side. He's one of the ones who's lucked out in mostly looking the same, except for the jagged black scales covering the top of his arms and extending up one side of his neck and face. And he's thrown himself pretty wholeheartedly into the fashion here, with an intricate red robe that's had some convenient slits built in to reveal his scales where it otherwise wouldn't, along with some very tall armoured boots to match, and some extra armour plating on the stomach and shoulders. He's trying to cover his bases even while being aesthetic as heck.]

Mmm, I'm starting to feel like they're expecting visitors...or is that just me?

[Molly has definitely asked to touch Ren's dragon arm before they started this journey and has been wholeheartedly delighted at the sight of him looking a lot like Cali and is expecting him to spit some kind of flame or acid or something from his mouth at some point.

But that's later. For now, Molly's eyes are open and watching the shadows, his hands on the hilts of the two blades he's carrying, having earned enough from random tasks to get both.]

Probably gearing up for an ambush. No one said whether or not these things were smart enough for traps, but I wouldn't be surprised at that price. Gnoll ears were worth less than wolf heads.
thedarkbond: (Default)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-20 12:33 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren hums a little in agreement, tapping slightly at a few of the things on his person to make sure they're still there - the only one actually visible is the crossbow, which he's thankfully managed to buy a decent amount of extra bolts for. His daggers and spell component pouch are both hidden under the panels of his robe, but everything seems to be in place if he needs it.]

I feel like they'd have a harder time of getting an entire village to flee if they weren't smart enough for that...even a normal group of predators can set up a basic kind of ambush, you know?

[That said, he's kind of expecting to get rushed suddenly, and as such, his fingers dip into his spell component pouch, teasing something out as they continue towards the village. He doubts they're going to be unlucky enough for both of them to miss any warning of an attack, but it'd be nice to have something prepared.]

You probably know more about what these kinds of things are like than me, though.
mollymocked: (⚔ stay in the cage)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-04-22 05:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I know predators are less predictable than people in groups. People in groups are just idiots. They think they know what they're doing, but it has a tendency to absolutely fall apart at the slightest upset, and then it's anyone's game.

[Ah yes, Molly's hypocrisy about groups. Judges them for being stupid, but also requires one to live. Yeah, okay, buddy.

There's a growl somewhere behind him and Molly pivots, putting his back against Ren's.]
They're gonna try and box us in. We're gonna need to unclump on my signal. Divide and conquer.
thedarkbond: (little skull witch)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-23 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
I mean, that's just a different form of unpredictable that it's turning into, then, isn't it? [If it collapses into anarchy at the theoretical drop of a hat. But they don't really have time to debate that particular point right now, and Ren backs up to Molly willingly enough when that growl sounds.

Something fragile and white is plucked out of his component pouch and rolled into his closed hand, the one that isn't holding his crossbow.]

If you say so...I guess we'll see how good a job they do~
mollymocked: (⚔ searching for a way to break free)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-04-24 06:57 pm (UTC)(link)
This generally works. [He counts off slowly as the growls intensify.] One... Two...

[Four wolves lunge forward, their fangs dripping venom, on four sides. Molly propels himself forward.] Three!

[They split the pack, but there's still two to each one, which means they can flank and keep their pack tactics in full effect.] Try not to let them flank you! They get really nasty if they corner you.

[One snaps at his leg and he bangs it on the head with one of his scimitars, while the second tries to knock him down from behind. Molly rolls with the lunge and the wolf leap frogs uselessly off his back, hits the ground and gears up for another round.

Molly rakes one blade over his hand and it lights up with a blaze of radiant energy and for the first time ever, he's so excited to see that familiar glow. His powers really are back.]
Yes! I'm back, you sons of bitches.
thedarkbond: (revenger of vigor)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-25 10:31 am (UTC)(link)
[When Ren's two try to flank him, he darts back a little further and flicks his fingers, revealing what's in his hand - a small wad of spiderweb.]

I'll just have them hold still for me, then~ [And on that note...a twenty foot wide, several-layered spider web promptly drops onto the wolves Ren's dealing with, leaving them struggling under a considerable depth of the stuff. That moment of casting gives him plenty of opportunity to notice that flash of light from Molly's direction - and the motion that he's just finishing up at the same time. It makes him frown a little as he puts a bit more distance between himself and the webbed wolves and draws his crossbow.]

Is that how you usually use your magic...? [Excuse him, he needs a moment to aim his big dumb weapon. One of these days he'll probably consider buying something that's not a two-handed weapon, but today is not that day. At least he has daggers with him as well...]
mollymocked: wanna cut me down (⚔ when the sharpest words)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-04-25 11:34 pm (UTC)(link)
Absolutely. [And Molly lights up the other sword in kind, the smell of blood sending the wolves into a bigger frenzy. One lands a bite to Molly's leg, and he hisses, but manages to shrug off the effect of the poison. The second wolf comes at him, but snaps at nothing but air as Molly spins out of the way.

Molly sweeps down one blade on the wolf that nearly poisoned him, hitting it in a vital area and causing it to limp painfully. The second blade slashes across the back of the other, and now Molly is in his proper element a a whirling dervish of death.

Ren seems to have his thing under control- magic spider web and all.]
thedarkbond: (lingering night revenger)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-26 02:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren lets out a bit of a huff at that, finally levelling his crossbow. It's pretty much impossible to miss given the situation, and though he needs a bit of loading time in between, he manages to sink a bolt into the shoulder of one wolf and the thigh of the other, to a chorus of whining and snarling. They're not going to have a fun time of moving anywhere even if they manage to get out of the web.]

I think I prefer it when you don't have to hurt yourself for your powers...

[Said while reloading his weapon again. It's probably a good thing Ren isn't really generally built for any combat that requires him to be in close proximity to anything.]
mollymocked: (⚔ in the crown of the circus king)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-04-26 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh believe me so would I, but some people just aren't that fortunate. [Or have no memories of how he even got those powers, but Molly is so delirious with fight frenzy and the thrill of having his own familiar abilities back, he just sounds delighted by everything.] It's a family thing. Buy me a drink later, and I'll tell you all about it.

[The grievously wounded wolf gets another bite in and once again Molly shrugs off the poison, snarling back at it, and the second leaps up to try and grab his arm and succeeds. Molly's got cuts and scrapes and bite marks every which way, but the poison doesn't take hold. It's still showing on his face, the sweat beading as he tries to keep ahead of their snapping, fatal jaws. He makes another swipe and successfully decapitates the wolf he'd nearly run through, bringing him down to one, and gives the other another slice across the ribs.] One down!
thedarkbond: (evil refuser)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-28 03:08 pm (UTC)(link)
What, so I have to pay for the story...? [That's said in somewhat of a joking tone, though, as he levels his crossbow again and fires. One of them only gets a flank hit, but the other one rears up in its attempt to escape the webbing and gets nailed in the stomach as a result, leading it to drop bonelessly to the ground with a faint whimper.]

Two down... [Ren glances back to Molly, judging whether he needs to intervene with Molly looking rather roughed up by the close combat. He supposes he could try to lure the other wolf into the web, though that would probably cause difficulties for Molly as well in a melee combat. For now, he leaves it be, figuring he can try a cantrip or something if he really ends up needing to do something here.]
mollymocked: (⚔ we can live in a world that we design)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-04-30 09:39 pm (UTC)(link)
My mother always said never give away a story for free! What? You don't take your mother's advice?

[He laughs despite his sweating and panting and general pain. He's having fun in a way he hasn't had fun in a long time. The illusions in the bottom of the ship and the monster were too painful to be considered much of a fight. Too difficult- not like this. This is what he gets paid for.

The remaining wolf is angry and limping and when it snaps its jaws at him this time, it misses with an agitated growl. Molly brings one sword down and the angry wolf jumps out of the way. The second strike lands hard right down the middle of its back, cutting messily through its spine.]
That's three.

[Molly finally turns, glowing with sweat and the thrill of battle, and takes stock of Ren's web properly.] Oh well, done. I love magic.
thedarkbond: (undead angel)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-01 07:10 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I haven't heard any of it in a while. [Ren gives a not-very-apologetic shrug at that which pretty much says that's about the extent of what he'll discuss as regards family. Which is probably a good thing, considering they have other things to focus on right now.

He could try finishing the last one with a spell, but he figures it's easier and divides his attention less to just keep using the crossbow. Thankfully, he doesn't end up needing two shots this time - the first one nails the last remaining beast in the eye, and it drops unceremoniously to the dirt.

Since Molly's appreciating the web, though, Ren keeps his concentration on it a little longer so it stays around.]
It's pretty interesting, isn't it? I've been working out which ones I can do, but this one seemed like it'd be pretty useful in a fight.

[He has the supplies for the spells he knows and the sense of how to do them, but it tends to come up more when he needs them, so it's been a process of figuring things out.]
mollymocked: (⚔ out of the drudgery)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-05-03 06:03 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm into that. Anything that keeps them from moving and not coming at us is unfair, but really, really useful and preferable to the alternative. Especially when their bites are that nasty.

[He winces, but he's just gonna start removing the heads with one still glowing sword, dismissing the rite on the other and sheathing it.] Not bad for an evening's work. This is how a person makes a lot of gold really quickly where I'm from.
thedarkbond: (little skull witch)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-04 12:24 pm (UTC)(link)
I've never been that bothered about fairness as long as someone isn't just being a cheater... [Ren shrugs a little, a slight smile on his face. As a gamer, he has strong opinions about what he considers actual cheating, but if someone's going into a fight in a world where magic exists and a spell like the one he did can't be that hard to pull off if he knows it, it's really on them if they're not prepared to deal with it.

Ren swings his crossbow across his back again as Molly works, since it doesn't really help in this situation.]
Mmm, I guess it makes sense that people would always need someone who's good in a fight for stuff like this. However much it ends up costing. You might have to do all the heads, though, the only blades I have on me are daggers...

[None of which are really long enough for effectively removing a head.]
mollymocked: (⚔ oh damn!)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-05-07 10:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm fine with that. It's a task I'm well suited for. [One head drops to the ground and he goes about with the next.] You have anything you want? Tails, teeth, claws? Some people are into taking little souvenirs or use those things in spells or to make jewelry.
thedarkbond: (sharp fang)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-08 01:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmm, I'm not really into the messy trophy thing myself...I don't really need to prove anything to anyone, you know? [Which is what that kind of obvious trophy-taking always strikes him as. He supposes the making jewelry thing might be a point, but he feels like there's nicer things to make jewelry out of.]

I don't think any of my spells need anything like that, but I guess I haven't really used all of them yet, either.
mollymocked: (⚔ like a zombie in a maze)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-05-09 07:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there'll probably be more where these ones came from if you figure something out. [Molly doesn't take anything himself, sharing Ren's opinion that he prefers prettier things to wear, and he while selling the hides and various parts seems appealing, he lacks the skill to do it properly. The heads are enough.]

Gods, I needed this. [He flexes his free hand where dried blood has caked down his arm, though the wounds have healed over.] Not so much that part, but it really is a necessary evil, and I'm comfortable with it. It's familiar.

[Even if it killed him, though he pointedly didn't use a Blood Maledict. Igniting the swords is a one and done thing so long as he doesn't drop them. He might never be okay with using a Blood Maledict while he's here and taking that risk again.

Or he might say fuck it. He's already dead, technically.]
thedarkbond: (blaster dagger)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-10 01:24 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren does frown a bit at that caked-up blood, even if he can see the actual wound involved has healed. He looks even less happy with the idea that it's apparently "familiar".

He's kind of starting to consider what Molly might have actually meant by "gambling" when they spoke at the temple.]

It doesn't seem very safe, though...I mean, fighting at all isn't safe, but having to hurt yourself to do your magic seems like adding the not-fun kind of risk to it. I don't really like it.

[It doesn't sound like Molly is that keen on it from how he worded the remark, but it still doesn't quite sit right with Ren. For someone whose Vanguard clan is all about the honourable sacrifice of allies, he's not real fond of anything like that happening to his friends.]
mollymocked: (⚔ it's everything you ever need)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-05-14 06:08 pm (UTC)(link)
And no one should, but it's a bloody- in every sense of the word- family curse. [He cants his head at Ren as if he's considering whether or not to trust him with something- it's all an act. People who give information that freely are generally liars, but if it comes with a bit of effort, it feels more legitimate.]

D'you know much about curses?
thedarkbond: (judgebau)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-15 07:18 am (UTC)(link)
[Ren's first thought is that it seems kind of weird to give someone a curse that is, ostensibly, useful enough that someone's going to take that risk, but he's not going to call that out just yet.] Mmm, we don't really have curses in my world? So not really. I've mostly just read about the idea of them.

[The deep annals of fantasy writing have talked about them often enough, at least.]
mollymocked: (⚔ but when we go outside)

[personal profile] mollymocked 2019-05-16 05:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Well. Since we're friends now, I suppose I can tell you this... [He heaves a sigh.] A long time ago there was a powerful devil who sired a new race of tiefling that were so powerful, the King of the Hells himself had to intervene. Since eradicating the entire race itself would spark a war in the Hells, he cursed them- they could keep their power, but they would have to bleed for it. The more power they used, the more they bled, and Asmodeus believed that they would be arrogant and foolhardy and bleed themselves dry until the line died out. And he was right.

[Molly places a hand over his chest.] I'm the last of that bloodline.
thedarkbond: (lingering night revenger)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-16 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Hmm, that's dramatic... [A bit too dramatic to be entirely believable, considering what Molly had done hadn't exactly seemed like mind-blowing power, but he'll leave it be for the moment. It's not as if he needs to know, and if it is a lie, it'll probably show itself in time.

In any case, he waves a hand as if dismissing the subject.]
That's kind of killed the mood, though. We should probably get to taking these things back so we can get the reward and stuff.

[And so Ren can buy a fancier dagger, probably, but that's for later.]

Old family legends are terrible, it's true. That's why I stick to happier stories. [And with his lie solidly accepted (as far as he knows) and the truth evaded, he hefts up the sack, realizes wolf heads are very heavy and sort of gestures awkwardly.] Mind lending me a hand here? I'm not really built for heavy lifting.

Mmm, it's nice to have a little bit of drama, but too much and it just kind of spoils the whole thing, I think. [Ren says that in his usual somewhat vague manner, despite the fact that half the time the issue comes up, it's when he's calling out villains with world-destroying aims for it.

Ren tilts his head a bit at the severed heads, but eventually steps forward to help out.]
Neither am I, really...though I guess it would be easier if we could wrap them in something.

[It's hard to want to carry something very securely when it's that bloody.]
