AU INFO: AU QUESTIONS, CLASSES, RACES, STEP BY STEP CHARACTER BUILD GUIDE

When you wake up, you are in a room. It looks to be relatively well-decorated, rustic. The bed is comfortable, the linens clean, and the quilt is nice. You can hear the bustle of people outside. The city is beginning to wake. You do not have the opportunity to look into a mirror, or anything else: there's bang on the door.

"Oi! Breakfast is bein' served! Get your asses up or you're not eatin'!"

Coming outside the room reveals that you seem to be in an inn. There are dozens of rooms along the halls, and a massive eating space below. There are wall to wall tables stacked with food, drink, and people sitting down to eat. They may look strange and unique to some of you. There are people with elongated ears, talking dragon-folk, bird-people, and regular humans. It's a diverse crowd, boisterous and loud, laughing and joking.

Before you can really catch your bearings, a friendly dwarvish woman bustles past, calling over her shoulder: "Never been to Mirabar, have you?"

And, before you can really respond to her, your watch lights up.

A NOTE FROM YOUR FRIENDLY NEIGHBORHOOD WITCH.
"Oh, look at that! It worked! It actually worked! I can see . . . oh, look at you! You look fantastic! What a delightful world! I am positively green with envy!"

The noise from Astoria sounds delighted, and those who have experienced world jumps before will know that Astoria reaching out after the jump is a bit . . . unusual. Usually, she can't communicate -- and while the image is fuzzy, it is definitely there, and she's speaking rather quickly.

"I hope you enjoy your time in Faerun; the magic in that world is quite powerful, and it looks like a few of you are fitting in just fine . . . remember, find joy in the darkness, and please do your best to help these people! It seems like they just need a bit of fun. And don't forget, whatever you do, don't forget to-"

And then, the image cuts off.

Welcome to Mirabar -- a city full of magic, adventure, kayak racing, and quite a lot to do. The main central city itself, the capital, is a walled fortress, with a forest surrounding it, and a small cluster of villages outside of the walls itself. The Guard allows you to stray the perimeter of Mirabar, but anything further will get you a one-way ticket right back to the city gates. Don't worry, though! There is certainly plenty to do, both within the walled city and in the surrounding outskirts.

LOCALITIES.
Mirabar is a smaller city Faerun, but it has a rich history, a long-suffering head of state who employs adventurers on the regular, and the eager people here to meet you, employ you, and entertain you.

There are be taverns to frequent, inns to stay in, a guild to pick up adventuring jobs, farm work, mining work, welding work. The most desperate thing that Mirabar needs is for people to lend a hand. It may not be the most exciting job, but it will be appreciated.
The Silver Blade is an adventuring guild is operated by a plethora of folks, but the elvish woman at the counter seems to be the one in charge. A series of tasks will be available for you to take up, ranging from deliveries through dangerous parts of the outskirts of town, to slaying monsters. The woman seems to be willing to pay in coin, so long as you bring back what she asks for. She doesn't tolerate nonsense.

The Dusty Coffer is a tavern that looks to be rough-and-tumble, but full of good food, good drink, and good music. There’s a bard that lingers in the back who is willing to take on new students/performers, and can pay, too! You can get any range of fare here, and while it’s not a five-star establishment, the food and drink is delicious.

The Blacksmith’s Burden doubles as a mine and a blacksmith’s forge. You can put in a day’s hard work here and buy weaponry. On one hand, you can learn how to make your own stuff! On the other hand, you can totally just buy stuff. They also sell basic tinkering tools and other materials to forge your own equipment. The entire establishment is run by an eager young half-elf named Dillon. He's missing two fingers. It was probably an accident.

The Heroes' Hearth is the neighborhood inn, specifically designed to tailor to adventurer's! It is the main hub of where the Circle will be staying. You will need to pay for your rooms. They're cheap, but the keeper of the Heroes' Hearth (a delightful dwarvish woman named Hilda) is a strict mistress. She expects proper payment when payment is due! She is also a wonderful cook, and will feed you until you explode.

➜ There is a library, full of texts concerning the history of Mirabar and Faerun. There is also a fishing yard by the river. It is full of little boats and leather-strapped kayaks, which transport goods in and out of the city. There are also shops to purchase clothing, basic tools, and ingredients for spellcraft.

➜ It's a robust city with a focus on steel weaponry. You won't find a lot of magical weaponry, but you may get lucky at the Widow's Weep. It is a weird little thrift store run by an eccentric dragonborn who seems to have a lot of broken magical wares. They're cheap, but may not work correctly.
There’s a ton to do, and the people of Mirabar are inclined to help you get settled in (and also help you spend your money).

TASK BOARD.
There is a giant announcement board of sorts, in the center of town, where the patrons and workers in Mirabar can put up jobs for hire. Suspiciously, the task board seems to be centrally positioned outside of The Silver Blade, the adventurer's guild. Almost as if the guild wants to check out whoever is looking at the tasks . . .

All of the below tasks can be taken up by an unlimited number of people, so if you see a bunch of people signing up for a task you really want to play out - don't be discouraged! Also, remember to submit your work submissions to the appropriate thread on the OOC post.
THE SILVER BLADE: Adventurer's Guild.
↠ "The village neighboring our own has asked for our help. Predators taken up residence and have been attacking farmers and travelers. Beware, for they are wolf-like creatures, equipped with poisonous fangs and impeccable hearing. It’s your job to evacuate the village, take care of the threat and ensure that nobody gets caught in the crossfire. Need 2-4 Adventurers; the work is difficult. Will pay 100 GP per wolf head, 500 GP max reward."

↠ "The alleged “prison” in Darkwood hardly serves its purpose. A group of prisoners escaped, and you've got to put them back where they belong. Far from a surprise when thieves run this town. Just one prisoner will do, unless you’re desperate for coin. Be careful; they’re seasoned rogues and will do anything to escape your grasp. 100 GP dead, 500 GP alive. We would prefer the idiot alive."

↠ “A woman named Fionn lives across Blackwater Bridge — she needs you to deliver a satchel of love letters to a man who will remain unnamed. It’s a secret, you see. She would take them herself, but she her family is too prestigious for her to afford any...gossip. The journey will require you to go through the Nymph’s Forest, and they have a knack of casting mind altering spells. This will be a bit of a recurring thing, so try not to read them, will you? 50 GP for delivery, minus 5 GP for every love letter lost. No reimbursements for injuries."

↠ “There are a particular set of nasty creatures that are inhabiting the eaves in the nearby Temple. Ordinarily, I would tell the priest to deal with it, but he seems to be convinced that they’re of an evil nature. I personally think they are just bats, but check them out, will you? Apparently they spew some sort of acid. I would bring a coat. 5 GP per 5 sets of bat wings. Bonus 15 GP if you bring one back alive."

↠ “This is a bit of an unsavory task, but...if you’re willing to betray the law a bit, you’ll be rewarded appropriately. An aristocrat in Zledfield is in possession of a prized, ethereal jewel that once belonged to the Convocation of Witches and Wizards of our city. It’s incredibly powerful and enables one to harness any power they might desire with a single tough. But he’s stolen it, and we need to steal it back. Sneak into his manor and return to us safely. Try to avoid the guards. And the attack gryffons. And the mote. And the very man himself. 2500 GP available for the successful retrieval of the gem.”
THE DUSTY COFFER: Tavern.
↠ “Come hither, ladies, gentlemen and everything in between! Looking for the richest of riches? Put on a play that brings in the crowd. We were thinking, ah...what was it? Romulus and Judith? Or Hamlamb, Aladjinn, oh...whatever strikes your fancy. Just make sure it’s good! 8 SP per performance, plus tips!”

↠ “Hey. You hear about Rhug’s warning? The man who runs this joint? He’s been complainin’ about how the mead’s been going missing...well, I know you need the coin — not hard to tell from how you look. I’ve been selling it under the table for a steal, and let’s just say my pockets have been fuller than ever. You help me smuggle some out and you’ll get a good cut of my profits. 50 GP per load, cut in half if you lose some product.”

↠ “We’re always in need of bartenders and cooks, and our last cook enchanted our damn cutlery. It keeps singing and dancing in the kitchens, like it’s some kind of musical. Bards . . . anyway, we’d appreciate the help trying to tame them. Looks like singing along with them shuts them up for a time, but we’ve got to get food out sooner rather than later. 8 SP for a night's work, plus tips."

↠ “Some of patrons keep bringin’ their kids around here, but we can’t serve the little ones. But there’s no point in throwing a good customer to the wind, is there? We’ve got a big room upstairs. Babysit for the night and you’ll get something good out of it...we can negotiate. Reward is 8 CP per kid, plus a free round of drinks for you and your mates.”
THE BLACKSMITH'S BURDEN: Mining/Forging.
↠ "We’re in desperate need of ore, and the caves have got some sort of flying bat-things wanderin’ about… lady down at the Silver Blade says they’re just bats, but the priest has got ‘em too, and I’m tellin’ you, those fucking things aren’t bats. They melt your steel and everything . . . anyway, bring up some ore for us, and we’ll pay you in weaponry, if you like."

↠ “We’ve got a big order from the Council to make a bunch of decorations to throw up around the lamp fixtures, for the big festival . . .and we need a lot of painting done. Grab a brush and help us paint up these lamp posts in our colors, and careful not to mix them up! We don’t need bright yellow garish lookin’ stuff, alright? We'll give you some supplies and 5 CP an hour worked.”

↠ “Created a new sword fit for dragon slayin’. I want to see it in action — you mind using it in the local tournament comin’ up this week? Win and they’ll give you a handsome earning. Lose and well, you’ll still get somethin’ from me...a win win situation, ain’t it? 150 GP for winning the tournament, win-lose, you get the sword."

↠ "We've got rats. They're fuckin' everywhere. I'm thinking Rodrick had somethin' to do with it, pissed off that sorceress at the Silver Blade proper . . . anyway, I'll give you 5 CP per rat. I'll double it if you drop it off on her doorstep."
THE FISHING YARD: And surrounding areas.
↠ “Help me…! I’m a failure of a sorceress...my love potion fell flat. But my presentation is in an hour...if you could just — if you and a friend of yours could just...take a sip in front of the audience and pretend like you’re MADLY in love, I’ll pay you well! I promise! Both of you! And I’ll create any kind of potion you desire...the other ones work just fine, I assure you!”

↠ “I need some fisherman ready to catch The Big One . . . or that’s what I call the little bastard evadin’ me. It’s a big beauty, with rainbow scales and big teeth . . . I just want the meat, but I’ll give you the scales and teeth, plus treat you to dinner with a friend if you help me catch it!”

↠ “Boat races, boat races! We need to practice for the big race at the festival! We’re testing out a new type of kayak, and sure, it might have a few . . . buoyancy problems, but that’s what we need you lot to test it for, yeah? We’ll pay you 9 SP per ride, 1 GP if you win the race without sinking, and you get to test drive a new enterprise!”

[Ren keeps his distance as Shiro leaps towards the bound wolves, aiming for the opposite side of the pack so he's less likely to misfire and accidentally injure Shiro. Unfortunately, he has to dislodge a bolt from his crossbow the first time, because it doesn't quite seem to want to slot in and fire properly, but the next one sinks deep in between the neck and shoulders of one of the wolves, causing it to let out a snarl of pain that wheezes out very quickly and sink heavily to one side. Ren's not sure it's entirely dead, but it looks badly incapacitated.

The next wolf he aims at unfortunately manages to pull to one side at around the time he fires, so while the bolt ends up sinking into the meat of its thigh, it's a crippling hit more than it is likely to deal with it more permanently. Still, even if he's having some bad luck, it's kind of hard to miss entirely in this situation.]

[He rotates his paw up into a striking position and swipes it out in a backhand. He keeps an ear trained on his companion as he prepares a spell in the back of his mind. He turns and roses letting the sound blast his opponents. Shiro dodges And gets caught along his side. The pain turns the world around him crystal clear.

The spell settles ready to be tapped. He turns with a snarl as the pack tries to get behind him. Just a little more and he can change shape and hit them with his ice spell. Ren is keeping distance but that makes sense. He never figured him for a close combat type.

Shiro cries out as fangs sink into his shoulder. He changes back and sends a blast out wind out. The creatures had to struggle against his previous spell. Now they have to deal with the wind.]
Count two seconds then fire!
thedarkbond: (knight of nullity)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-23 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Seeing Shiro's situation, Ren isn't exactly lining up to jump in when he doesn't have a close combat weapon (other than his daggers, which will probably do even less for him than his bow). He can work better from over here, though he does let out a faint breath of annoyance through his teeth seeing Shiro get bitten by one of them.

As asked, he counts two seconds under his breath before levelling his crossbow again. The first shot slams into the fleshy part just behind the jaw on the unfortunate wolf that had just been biting Shiro, and the second thuds into the belly of the one behind it. The first one drops like a stone, but the second, like one of the ones from Ren's previous firing round, is incapacitated more so than entirely dealt with.]
spaceforged: (alright we'll call a draw)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-04-24 05:49 am (UTC)(link)
[As the bolts sink home Shiro leaps back putting more distance between himself and Ren. Ice forms into sharp blades at his command. Like a volley of arrows, they fall into their targets. Another wolf falls as Shiro gives them no time to recover.

Thunder crashes and lightning splits the sky. Another two wolves go down, struck by the lightning as it makes contact. He moves back, breathing in as his shoulder throbs with pain.

He'll have to play this smart. The less movement the better. Two left one of them slowed by the wound in the belly.]
Almost there.
thedarkbond: (little skull witch)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-24 12:55 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shiro does a pretty decent job decimating a chunk of the pack, and Ren shoulders his crossbow for now, instead lifting his fingers to point towards the two remaining wolves.]

Might as well finish it now, then~ [And with those words, he casts Ray of Sickness, twinning the spell since they're both so close to each other. A poisonous green haze twists out from each finger, engulfing the beasts - the injured one caves on the spot with a defeated whimper, while the other tries to keep its feet, rearing up as it struggles to get nearer. The unshouldering of the crossbow and one last bolt that lands square in its chest takes care of that without much trouble, though.]

I hope you've got something for your shoulder...
spaceforged: (pic#12570268)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-04-27 04:24 am (UTC)(link)
[It's over so quickly he doesn't get time to close the distance. Shiro reaches into his belt pouch and pulls out a jar of herbal salve he had bought at the apothecary for neutralizing poisons. It cost a fair bit of coin but it was worth it. He opens the small jar and smears it over the wound.

Shiro ties a bandage over it to let the mixture do its work without interference.]

I do. I'll take care of it while we scout and make sure we got all of them.

[The wound is starting to tingle. He should be able to heal it in a few minutes or less. He shuts the jar and puts it away.] A full sweep of the village should do it.

[Without another word he turns and walks to the west, moving with a slight stiffness. The wound in his shoulder hadn't been deep but it is hindering movement.]

thedarkbond: (undead angel)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-04-28 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren casts a bit of a doubtful eye over Shiro at the stiff movement, but he gives a faint laugh as he puts his crossbow over his back again and follows him. It seems like a bad idea to split up on scouting if Shiro's already in this bad shape.]

It looks like you could use a break to take care of it now, but I suppose it's not a bad idea to guarantee we won't just get more wolves jumping on us... [He shrugs a little, seemingly casual but keeping one hand pretty close to his component pouch. If Shiro's reaction time is limited by the injury, it might be on him to hinder anything they might encounter.]

Is turning into a cat your big fighting thing here, then?
spaceforged: (Take us in slowly)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-01 05:01 am (UTC)(link)
It's part of it. [Shiro answers as he skirts the edge of the village. He glances carefully about for any sign of more wolf creatures. Nothing.

His magic reports that there's no more poison in his wound. Shiro reaches into his pouch and takes a few red leaves in between his fingers. Magic curls around them and flows up his arm into the wound.]

Druids seem to be...a conduit for natural forces. We guard them and in turn, they aid us when we need them. So, when I see an animal I can become it.

[Shiro pulls at his power one more time and jet black wolf with a blaze of white on its forehead and paws stands in his place. He puts his nose to the ground and breathes in, padding slowly over where the creatures had been.]
thedarkbond: (Default)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-01 07:37 am (UTC)(link)
[Ren watches Shiro work with his wound as they go - it's still kind of interesting to see how magic works here, and he hasn't run into a lot of this kind of magic yet. It seems like it's more of a natural thing than his own, which makes sense when given the explanation.]

Oh, I guess that would be pretty useful...though having to see something first might get a little annoying. [Ren can change his form at the moment, but not to anything quadrupedal, mostly just to different kinds of people. Still, he waves one of his black, scaled arms.] I guess I'm only part of an animal, but I didn't have to see any dragons to do it, so that's convenient for me.

[He's "part of an animal" because of a draconic bloodline, but explaining that properly takes more seriousness than he's willing to offer the situation.]
spaceforged: (Black Lion: Made you look)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-03 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[Shiro raises his head. The black scales are easy to see and he follows them with his wolf sight. Ah, bloodline magic. He'd heard about that. He flicks his ears once and yips, with jerk of his head.

Follow.

With his shoulder healed it takes the stiffness out of his movements. He's at home on four paws and it shows, he moves almost as naturally as any wolf of the wilds.

Shiro circles around to the back of the trees near the village edge and breathes. The stretch of the creatures is there. His ears flatten against his skull as a low warning growl builds in his chest. It's fresh but not as immediately fresh as their actual presence would be. He still looks back to signal there's trouble by making sure Ren sees him lower himself into a hunter's stalk.]
thedarkbond: (darkveil)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-03 03:34 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren follows along with Shiro's movements willingly enough, hand on his component pouch again. He doesn't doubt a wolf's nose is better than his own, so if Shiro smells something out here, it's probably important.

The warning growl speaks for itself as well, and Ren tilts his head a bit, seemingly careless but with a subtle hint of preparedness to him.]

Definitely not the ones we just saw, then...? [It would be a lot easier, but then, if it had only been one group of wolves then the villagers probably would have gotten help earlier.]
spaceforged: (I'm a champion)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-03 11:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[Shiro moves carefully through the brush. With his ears pricked forward for the slightest sound he follows the scent. It is getting stronger. He pauses just before a brush and shifts, lowering himself down and using his fingers to tell Ren four creatures are just beyond his hiding space.

Another group and they’re likely wary after the death of their own. He arms himself with a prepared ice knife spell in his head. His voice is a low murmur.]

We should hit the closer of the four first. I can knock them back when they charge from any direction. But only twice more.
thedarkbond: (Default)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-04 01:58 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ren, for his part, decides to start with a cantrip this time, but he does have a spell in mind for if things get a bit tangled and the pack just tries to come at them like last time.]

If you can't do the plant thing again, I have something I could try to keep them occupied...we'll have to see how it goes, though.

[Hard to tell if it's going to be viable before the pack attacks, so he leaves his crossbow over his shoulder for now. If he ends up really needing to quickly grab for a weapon, he still has his daggers.]
spaceforged: (I'm calling you from the future)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-06 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
[He charges the spell as he ducks into the brush. His magic is ready to go. The attack is like a knife in the dark something he learned...somewhere. He isn’t actually sure where. Shiro throws one of his regular knives as he lets his spell follow. It’s deadly. His target falls with several ice knives and side.

The beast beside it gets a few knives but nothing serious. He pulls on his magic to ready another spell.]
thedarkbond: (totwachter)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-08 01:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Now that one of them has already fallen, the other three wolves press forward, still not being so careless as to charge, but definitely trying to press them back. Ren dips his fingers into his component pouch and flicks his fingers, a ball of spiderweb already dissipating between them.]

Let's all calm down for a moment, shall we~? [Between two of the higher plants, a thick mess of spiderwebs suddenly stretches out, catching up the three wolves and binding them in place for the moment It's quite wide and deep, and looks like it's going to take some fighting through. Magic should still pass through easily, though.]
spaceforged: (I got the magic hand!)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-12 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[He moves back to let Ren work as he murmurs the words of the spell. This is his last spell for a while. He'll need to rest after this.

Another shard of ice forms itself and he sends it flying with a murmured final word. He hits the middle wolf and explodes. Ice damage spreads out and he loosens his bow from its straps on his back. He'll switch to ranged fire if he has to.]
thedarkbond: (darkquartz)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-12 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[Rather than pull his crossbow, Ren goes for the easier option this time and flicks out his fingers.] This is much easier...

[His fingers produce two bubbles of what looks like acid that shoot towards two of the wolves nearest each other. One of them catches an already ice-damaged wolf full in the face, likely blinding it from the ear-shredding screech it lets out as it drops, not quite dead but clearly somewhere on the brink of being overwhelmed. The other hits the jaw and chest of the wolf next to it, eating at the fur and making it an easier target area if Shiro chooses to switch to his bow.]
spaceforged: (We'll get through this.)

[personal profile] spaceforged 2019-05-16 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
[Two arrows end the lives of the suffering beasts right after Ren all but finishes them off. The job is done. Yet he notched a third arrow just in case. The wood around them is silent then slowly animals start to make their usual amount of noise.

Shiro holds still then slowly he relaxed and walks over to inspect the creatures.]
This should be the last of them. Packs are only so large and this one didn’t have more than eight sets of tracks and scents.

[He is too tired to change shape again. He relies on his senses as a elf to tell him.] If you have any spells that detect magic, might want to use them now. Just in case.
thedarkbond: (sharp fang)

[personal profile] thedarkbond 2019-05-17 10:26 am (UTC)(link)
[The heads of the two that Ren hit with the acid are going to be a bit messy to hand in at the end of all this, but he's mostly looking around them for a moment before he steps over to the creatures. He lets the web drop for the moment, making it easier to study the fallen wolves.]

Mmm, I don't think I have any, unfortunately...most of my spells seem to be offensive. [Or underhanded, but either way, it's a bit of an "awesome but impractical" set of spells he has here.] It sounds like the other animals in the forest are pretty sure they're gone, though.

[It's a hard difference to miss, even if Ren might not be in tune with it the way Shiro presumably is.]
