( world #2 - struxta event log )

a storm approaches.
above ground.
It is early when you wake up to a message on your watches. Those underground will not receive this message, due to the complications with service. It is a simple line of text, with no further explanation given. You’re not sure how it even came through, or how they found a way to connect to the watches. Either way, a message comes across the screen.

All newcomers to Struxta are instructed to remain in their rooms until further notice.

It’s the middle of the day, on the 17th day in Struxta, that the notification rings out. Not through your bracelets, which might be your first assumption, but through what had previously been an unused announcement system. It doesn’t take much though to realize the announcement is for you - why would thousands of minds all connected to a singular consciousness need any kind of mass announcement system? No, they are talking to you. Whoever they are.

The announcement echoes through every building, street, hallway, and room in what feels to be the entire city - perhaps the entire world, and everyone above ground can hear it. It’s inescapable, really, the mechanical voice that calmly but firmly surrounds you.

All newcomers to Struxta are instructed to remain in their rooms until further notice.
Please return to your room if you haven’t already.

For those of you who are in your room, if you choose to venture out the Hostel itself will seem eerily normal. It is not until you get to the door that you see the figure - an imposing, large, mechanical figure armed with two devices. It takes up nearly the entire door, only moving aside if there is another Circle member being brought inside. Then it will return to its post. You will notice that if you approach the figure, it will not acknowledge you except to repeat the announcement.

Please return to your room.

They are impossible to sneak past, but more creative means could provide you with a way to get through. However, if they do catch up to anyone attempting to leave the premise, all they will need to do is touch a Circle member, and an electric shock strong enough to make any and everyone pass out will be administered.

If you do manage to make it past the Enforcers, the streets will feel oddly calm - like nothing has happened at all, despite the echo of the announcement around you. Do not waste time here, once you are free - the Enforcers will be chasing down any members who have gotten free, as made obvious if you choose to stay in any kind of public (and most private) spaces for more than an hour or so.

Where will you go?
below ground.
Whether it is a tip from another Circle member, or by coincidence alone, you might be able to find yourself underground. There seems to be more openings, now - all centered around the area of the Races. Doors and passageways with BG’s beckoning members in, taking them down below where even the sound of the announcement can’t be heard.

They will offer safety for anyone who was not originally part of the Tunnel Exploration, while also explaining what their fellow Circle members are preparing for. About the Storm, about their history - any of the previous questions asked here will be explained to anyone who makes the trek underground. It will take a day to get all the things in order to transport everyone to The Storm, and this will be a chance for all Circle members to regroup once they make it inside the tunnels.

They press you not to wander too far, and to instead simply wait with them in the industrial tunnels below the city, a never-ending interlocking maze of wires, pipes, and metal. It’s dark, dusty, and definitely not comfortable. But one thing it is, they explain in their glitchy half-sentences and partial thoughts, safe.

The Mass Consciousness has apparently deemed you a threat, and are systematically working on a solution to the problem. There’s no telling what they might do.
wildcard.
This is your world to explore. Something has tipped the Mass Consciousness off to a possible issue, a possible threat. What you do with this new status is up to you. Outside of the Hostel, the natives will completely ignore your existence, like you have been entirely erased from their reality. The only ones who seem to notice you are the Enforcers, and the BGs.

For those who have decided to investigate, and hopefully put an end to, The Storm, the log will be posted tomorrow (July 28th 11:59 PM EST). ICly and OOCly you will have one more day to prepare. Please be on the lookout for that log, as the description will include what you will find and what you can assume! We will also continue to take questions over at the OOC Post through the course of the event.

If you are having trouble getting out, let me know where you are. I have an ability that can help. -M. Hughes

Above Ground;
[He had his orders. Not that taking orders from Roy was really necessary when you were this far out of the reach of the military and technically dead. But Maes figured old habits died hard and following Roy was one of his oldest habits at this point.

It takes some thought. He can't let the big guy at his door (which is how he has taken to referring to the Enforcers) get wind of what he's doing, but he can't just hang around either. So, Maes makes a point of huffing and sliding down on the opposite side of his bed. He makes sure he's out of sight, waits to see if the big guy will check on him at all. He waits and nothing happens. Which probably means that he won't be missed. Maes closes his eyes, he can't necessarily envision each individual location but if he can picture the person he wants to get to usually that's enough to get his power to work. He's been practicing with it for the past few weeks now.

He just has to hope that whoever he teleports to can help him avoid the notice of any other Enforcers. Riza first. Then Alphonse. Then anyone who responds to his text. And then periodically checking on Roy. It's something he can do between teleports so that not everyone is disappearing all at once.

The big guy doesn't even notice when Maes is no longer in his room and a second later he's appearing elsewhere. Hopefully when he appears before a member of the Circle it's also out of sight of the Enforcers...but Maes's luck with that might not hold out for each venture.
]

(ooc: I'll leave it up to whoever responds whether Maes and whoever he is rescuing are seen by the Enforcers or not. Teleport chase scene could be fun.)

[ roy had explained to her what was going to happen. how his plans, and ideas, and maes, were going to come into play. and while she didn't feel comfortable leaving roy inside while all this was happening, she had also been able to work herself into a state of enough self awareness that she understood that she needed to get out. and once she did that she'd be of better use.

that is the only reason (or well, the main one) that when hughes appears in her room, she does not actually pull the trigger - rather, just has the pistol pointed directly between hughes' eyes, her own gaze tight. and it's also why, once she has a second to process the appearance of general maes hughes in her room, she lowers the gun and immediately flips the safety back on. ]

Sorry, sir. Habit. [ hopefully he doesn't notice the way her hands are shaking slightly. hopefully. ]
dadandgone: (Now You've Gone Too Far)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-07-30 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not easy teleporting and finding a gun pointing at you. There's something to be said for instinct though, in that there is a moment where he tenses and is ready to teleport away or pull a weapon of his own (a measly dagger? what was that really going to do?). Instead it's very much a move of displaying his open palms and keeping a steady gaze on that trigger finger. Maes had thought Hawkeye had been given enough of a heads up to warn her about his appearance, then again, if she truly was caught off guard he'd probably already be dead.

Again.

Yeah, he was going to have to tread lightly with teleporting around Hawkeye that was for certain. He lowers his hands in a slow, purposeful manner when the gun is no longer staring him in the face.
]

Given the circumstances I'll try not to take that personally.

[Unfortunately, he DOES notice the shaking. However, priority dictates that he not comment on it. It just gets filed along with everything else.]

Roy spoke to you already, right? I can get you out of here, but you're definitely going to have to trust me. I can only teleport you if we're touching.

[He holds out one of his hands as if that wasn't obvious. But given how he'd just been greeted, he wants to make sure he's laying as much out for Hawkeye as possible.]

Do you need to get anything or are you ready to go?

[personal profile] efface 2018-08-13 02:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I'd appreciate it.

[ she checks back around the room one last time - just to make sure she isn't forgetting anything - before she turns fully to hughes. she's visibly tense, her hands tight at her sides in an attempt to hide that from him still. she feels raw and vulnerable and angry with herself for feeling that way. ]

He briefed me, yes. And I've got everything I need.

[ her eyes longer on where he holds out his hand to her, still unsure of what this will be like, how it will feel, but above it all she does trust him. trusts him, and roy's plan, and that there's nothing - despite her second of hesitation - to worry about.

and once that second passes, she takes the offered hand. ]

I'm ready when you are, General.
dadandgone: (Default)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-17 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
Let's go then.

[Maes tries not to look too relieved, though it probably shows in his eyes. He's glad that there isn't more of an argument, that Hawkeye really does trust that he (and Roy) know what they're doing. For the most part anyway. He does nod though and accepts her hand. He'd already staked out a spot with some preliminary teleporting earlier and so it's not hard at all to picture that location in his head and POP.

He knows he doesn't have to close his eyes, but he finds it helps, so when he opens them again they are now standing in on a rooftop a couple of miles from the hostel. It was a building he had passed a few times on his way to the library and didn't seem to get as much use as some of the others. He thought, as a sniper, Riza might appreciate the vantage point. If it proved unsafe he could get them moving again soon, but at least this would buy some breathing room.
]

Not too bad I hope. Roy only told me to get you out of the hostel, I wasn't sure where you might want to go after that.
efface: (7L2bO)

[personal profile] efface 2018-08-21 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
[ she isn't one to argue normally (she either does what roy tells her or not at all, there's no real room to argue) but especially not today. not after realizing her own issues with it, with being here, and how clear the association is. roy had been worried about it, enough to physically come to her room to check on her. she's not going to bother hughes with it too.

so instead riza simply takes his hand and nods.

the sensation is nothing she's ever felt before. a sudden feeling of something to the point riza can't keep her own eyes open, and then it's over. before she could even get a handle on what is happening, there is another feeling under her feet. another kind of ground. when she opens her eyes again, it's to a rooftop, and immediately her knees bend to catch her - like she'd been falling, when she definitely was not. but once that feeling of being somewhere that, in that time, should have been impossible, riza takes stock of where they are. of the location, the view. hughes had picked it out for a sniper's eyes, she could tell, and riza is immediately grateful. ]

This will work perfectly. Thank you, sir. [ and then riza is stepping away from the spot they landed on to start moving around, checking the different vantage points, the different views, before turning back to him. ] Are you going back inside?
dadandgone: (Default)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-22 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
[Would Roy be happy that he deposited Riza so close to the hostel? Probably not. But he always had the excuse that his power only let him go so far and, well, you didn't bench your best shot when shit was going down. He had no idea what was about to unfold and if they needed cover, well, Maes wanted to know where he could count on Riza being.]

Yes. I have to get Alphonse next or at least see if he needs help. Then it's a matter of taking care of Roy.

[And whether that means helping him get others out or getting Roy himself out is up in the air at this point. But if Riza can't be by his side right now, then he'll take that spot. He holds up his wrist, tapping the watch they'd been given upon arriving at the temple.]

If you need to change locations quickly for some reason, let me know. I don't know if those Enforcers are eventually going to be moving out past the hostel or not.

[personal profile] efface 2018-08-22 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
[ she's thankful for the thought process, honestly. now that she's free of the suffocating sense of being trapt, she can actually take stock of what they have and what they can do. she doesn't have her full rifle with her, but she can make do with what she has. ]

Alphonse first. The General wanted gather as many others still inside as possible.

[ and when he motions for the watch, riza nods. ] If I see any more movement from here, I'll relay the info. Are you going to be bringing them all here, or dropping them off at other locations?

Trouble was my plan for getting out.

[Trouble tends to be his plan for a lot of things. But.]

You have another option?
dadandgone: (I Don't Get It)

text

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-02 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
[Unheard, because this is text, Maes gives a tired sigh. This is exactly what he is worried about.]

Trouble is not a plan, Keith. It's a goal at best. And not even a goal that usually aligns with the goal of 'getting out of a predicament.'

[Now if Keith had given something more detailed like 'I'll cause a distraction and then use that time to get people out through this convenient tunnel' THAT would be a plan. But, no, he literally just texted 'trouble' and that was it.]

The ability I was given is teleporting. It's pretty easy to pop into the rooms of the hostel since their goal is to keep us IN and then they can't really do anything to stop me from getting to various points outside of the building.
lonered: (S6-29)

[personal profile] lonered 2018-08-02 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
[That's okay. Keith is laughing. It's like he can hear the sigh through the text. Sorry, Maes.]

Trouble's just the theme of the plan. These robots aren't all that different from what I'm used to fighting at home. If I can hold them off and give people a chance to get out, then I'm all for it. It'd have to be coordinated, but trouble can work pretty well.

But like I said, if you have another way, then I'm all for it.

[And oh. He does, huh?]

Huh! So you're just like my wolf.

But. That does sound useful, and better than just trying to muscle our way out.
dadandgone: (Smug Bastard)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-02 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
Oh the plan has a theme now. This just keeps getting better.

[Okay, enough with the sarcasm. Keith apparently understands what he's doing better than he's letting on.]

A wolf? Where did you find a wolf that could do that?

Actually never mind, that's not important right now. Yes, I'm using it to get people out now. If we coordinate it could make it easier for me to clear the hostel and then I can get you...if you need it anyway. I assume during all your trouble you also have a plan for getting OUT of the trouble.

On the back of a space whale riding on the edge of a quantum abyss where space and time have no real meaning.

[But yes, focusing now.]

I'll be happy to provide a distraction while you get people out. Not a problem.

Of course I have a plan for it. More trouble.

[...he might be deliberately messing with Maes a little now. He's grown up recently, matured, but Keith is still Keith.]
dadandgone: (What the Hell)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-02 02:31 am (UTC)(link)
[If he wasn't already hopping worlds and meeting androids, he'd probably be a bit more skeptical about that statement. But it's...it's just too specific to be made up. Man, remember when the weirdest thing in your life was people performing alchemy? Maes might actually miss that being the freakiest thing to deal with.]

I'm so glad I asked.

If I didn't already have a feeling you're a pretty capable person, we'd be having a serious talk right now about your ability to make plans.

Instead I'll talk to you about that later. Just be sure to make it out in one piece.
lonered: (S6-08)

[personal profile] lonered 2018-08-03 01:45 am (UTC)(link)
Just be grateful I left out the part about spending that time with my long lost alien mother.

[Oops. Nope. There's that part too.]

I'm capable enough. And as for plans, we probably should've seen this coming before now. Having all of us together in one easily contained place like this.

I'll make it out. Make sure you do too.

And be careful with the magic use. Have you found your limit? Eventually it'll exhaust you.

[After Maes has taken care of the people he's responsible for, he sends a message off to Roy to give him a heads up that he's going to be 'popping' back in his room. Under normal circumstances it's fun to catch his friend off guard, but this has taken a turn for the serious so for the moment Maes will refrain from catching any one by surprise if he can help it.

He's learned by now that if he doesn't have a specific location in mind, if he thinks about the person he wants to get near he can appear near them instead. It's handy for sure since it means he doesn't necessarily have to know where he's going.

Maes doesn't waste time and a few minutes later he's popping into existence at Roy's shoulder.
]

Our people are clear. It about time we got out of here too.
insubordination: (035.)

[personal profile] insubordination 2018-08-02 03:57 am (UTC)(link)
[ even with the warning, roy instinctively jolts to attention, immediately (out of habit, a muscle-reaction even though his alchemy does not work) thrusting a hand forward to defend himself . . . but he stops, when he realizes it's just maes, and maes did, in fact, warn him he was going to arrive. ]

-- I hate that. [ in barely concealed aggravation, letting out a breath before he lets down his guard in a huff. especially at the latter news. ] -- they're clear? Good -- good, alright.

[ shaking off the shock for a moment: ]

Better late than never. I've been keeping an eye on the network. They're not being too kind to people who are trying to escape, so let's try to avoid getting caught.

[ famous last words? ]
dadandgone: (Serious Business)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-02 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
[Maes doesn't waste time apologizing. There's nothing he can do about it and it's not his fault that all his friends are jumpy. Of course, if the tables were turned, he'd also be fairly jumpy.]

Hawkeye's probably changed locations since I got her out. I'll have to take us to a different location anyway. Any areas in particular we should avoid? Keith plans on causing trouble for them, so they might be concentrated in other areas because of that.

[He probably should have asked Keith himself, but that had been awhile ago and he hadn't heard anything from the younger man since then.]
insubordination: (66.)

[personal profile] insubordination 2018-08-02 11:02 pm (UTC)(link)
She'll find us. It's fine.

[ without hesitation; he'll send her a message, as soon as they're free and clear. but at the rest of the plan, roy looks slightly more . . . dubious. ]

What type of trouble?

[ a little warily. ]

We're outnumbered, here. There's no way to win head-on.
dadandgone: (Serious Business)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-08-03 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
I told him that wasn't a plan, but he didn't really specify beyond that. Something about he's dealt with robots like this before back home and that he'll be distracting them so others can get out. That kind of trouble. He seemed pretty confident about it.

[Maes shakes his head. Trust him Roy, he tried to talk Keith out of it. But the young man is just as stubborn as...well as you, honestly.]

So we should find areas that aren't as populated. It might not be a bad idea to make our way to those tunnels the others were exploring before now...

[There's a sound outside. Maes looks up and then back to Roy.]

I think your babysitters are coming back to check on you. Ready to go?
insubordination: (053.)

[ ah, keith. a kid after his own heart. why sneak around when you can kick down the door yourself. but still, roy pushes that thought out of his head to focus on what maes is saying . . . ]

Underground seems best. [ agreed, though roy sounds . . . a little disgruntled by it. being underground isn't ideal, but it's better to be hidden, in this instance, than not. and at the sound of the noise at the door, roy narrows his eyes a bit before casting a cursory glance around his room. seeing nothing of value: ] I'm fine --

[ wait. ]

Did Riza get her dog?

[ THE DOG IS VERY IMPORTANT. ]

Well, doing good deeds is up there. But we're all in the same boat, so it seems like a good idea to help people now. Never know when you might need help in the future. Besides, it's not like I'm going after anyone that wants to stay or refuses my help. That's on them.
