a storm approaches. This log is for everyone who signed up for The Storm investigation. Feel free to use the here to plot further on how you plan on approaching The Storm, and the issue. The mod questions thread is also open, if you have anything you would like to run by us.
the investigation. It takes a day of preparation, and a day of discussion, before you are led further down into the tunnels. It's pitch black, but one of the BGs who you have become familiar enough with turns on a low light and continues further. You walk for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, and then turn a corner into a large, open cavern. The BG explains that at one time, this had been an underground transportation system - old and unused for centuries, now, but still in working order.
They file each of you onto a single car - it seems to be large enough to fit nearly a hundred, possibly more, bodies - so everyone has a space. The BG explains that they have already input the coordinates into the system, and that once they close the door, you will be transported to the last known location. The car will be programmed to wait for 72 hours, and then will return to this location. There is food and water supplied, and already packed, in the car. If you are not back in the car by that time, it will leave you behind. They then give their farewells, thank you for your help and readiness, and step away from the door - letting it close behind them. The car travels down a pitch black tunnel, and while the inside is dimly lit enough for the Circle Members to see each other and move around without hinderance, you can see nothing through the windows. It continues for a few hours at this rate - nothing to see, no idea where you are going. That is, until it seems to break through the surface, the track running through buildings and another, unknown area of the city.
The streets and buildings are abandoned, the tech old and outdated, windows broken out and dust filling the street. The sky, like back in the city you knew before, is cloudy and grey. But these clouds are different - these clouds are dark in a way you haven't seen before. You travel for another half hour above ground before the cart comes to a stop, and during this time it happens twice. A low rumble, seeming to come from everywhere at once, and then a few heartbeats after, a disasterous flash of lighting - miles away, yes, but threatening and gigantic, brighter and more violent than you've ever seen lightning before. The crash shakes the ground under you, and the damage is immense.
But the buildings are abandoned, the streets empty save for crates, old mechanical bits, dusty remnants of a society long forgotten by the Struxta you came from just a couple of days prior.
This is The Storm you've been warned about. the storm. You have been asked to find out information that will help the BG's, and Struxta, to stop The Storm.
From what you can gather, it does seem to be a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, as far as weather systems seem to work on this planet. However, rather than scattered thunder and lightning strikes, it seems to almost recharge and strike with epic proportions. It can damage, or destroy, buildings. It shorts out any and all items (and people) who depend on electricity in any form to function (Sorry Daylight and Conner, sorry to anyone who brought along technology) within a three mile radius.
The 'darkness' the BGs were talking about does follow this storm, but they seem to have been referring to this electrical shortage that comes from the storm and it's strikes. If this storm does reach any of the still-occupied areas of the city, it will shut down the entire grid, as well as any of the robots, androids, or electrically based figures that exist there - essentially ending the life of every Struxta citizen that is effected.
Plot, plan, theorize, and see if you can find a way to stop The Storm. If not, be back on the train car in 72 hours time, to return to the BGs and report what you have found.PROMPT IDEAS 1.) Discussions on the train - do you have any ideas for what to prepare? Any discussions you may want to have? You and your fellow Circle Members are caught here together for a few hours, driving into a situation you know very little about. What do you want to make sure you're prepared to handle?
2.) Scouting missions - the heart of The Storm is very much in the distance, and it is not moving quickly, giving Circle Members plenty of time to set out and check out the surrounding city. What you will find won't be much - this is a robotic ghost town in every turn of the phrase. Buildings have been abandoned for hundreds of years, covered in dust and left entirely undisturbed, except for the breeze that now seems to flit through this entire area. There are stores, warehouses, apartments, and buildings you can't even tell what they were used for, cleared out. Whenever, or whoever, lived in this part of Struxta had evacuated, quickly but efficiently.
3.) The Storm - The Storm is still a distance away from where the cart has dropped you off, enough that when your 72 hours are up, the heart of the storm and the lightning strikes shouldn't reach the car, or the track. This does mean that to do any closer investigation, you will need to go to The Storm itself. But be careful - the electrical output from these lightning strikes are dangerous, and can have all sorts of effects on both natural and mechanical beings. The wind, the closer you get to The Storm, will also pick up - making any kind of flying or air travel impossible.
4.) Planning - the car leaves everyone off at an old train station, which a large room attached. This room can be used as a kind of home base, as well as a meeting location. What do you plan on doing? Simply taking down information, or trying to take the storm head on? How do you plan on doing that? Will your abilities help? This room attached onto the train station is a safe location - no effects of The Storm will make it inside. Use as you would like! |

[The warnings that they had all been given back at base were completely unnecessary, in Cayde's opinion. The thrill of the potential for danger is far more attractive than any sort of silly self-preservation, and he's got this.
The city is a wreck, and there's something almost comforting about that; it feels a little like home, all things considered. But that doesn't mean that he's apt to play nice with anything. Cayde's taking this opportunity to slip into everywhere he possibly can, surely there must be some sort of information that could be helpful.]
Hey!
[He's managed to work his way into one of the buildings, and is now leaning out a broken out window, motioning with one arm.]
Think I found something up here, anyone want to give me a hand?
3. obvious consequences
[The faint ozone taste in the air should be enough of a warning, but Cayde is wont to ignore signs of danger when it suits him. He's tasted lightning before, gone toe-to-toe with his share of arc-wielding foes, there's nothing scary about a little flash and bang.
He pays no heed to the growing rumble in the distance, continuing his trek into the ruined city with the rest of the scouting party. It's the most fun he's had in months, and he's not about to let a little bluster drive him back to the boring safety of the train station.
Something catches his optics, just around a bend in the street, and he motions to his traveling companions.]
Hey, something over there. Gotta be worth checking-
[Another tremendous crack splits the sky, and it's like he's been hit by a interceptor. The strength is immediately gone from his limbs, and he crumples to the ground, optics flickering and a staticy, distorted sound escaping from his speaker. It's different, this time; this isn't anything like back home.
His mind is a jumbled mess as he shuffles and tries to get to his hands and knees, trying to make sense of what's happened. But there's another flash and another jolt through his system and for once in his life Cayde is ready to admit that perhaps he's made a bad decision.]
Okay-
[His tone is jumbled, but he manages to get to his knees with considerable effort.]
Okay, so. Change of plans. [If he were able to, he's entirely sure he'd be gasping for breath. Kind of embarrassing, but pride goeth before the fall.] Leave the thing, come help me get back on my feet. Please?
3. benched for the season
[Eventually he's able to get back to the train station, but he's not happy about being stuck at home base while everyone else gets to adventure about. Cayde can be found holed up, brooding only a slight bit, near the door. Anyone entering or leaving will get chastized for a moment if they step too close, because he's currently utilizing the thick layer of dirt and dust on the ground to try to draw a map of the areas of the city that he was able to scout out.]
You got anything to add?
4. wildcard
[Hit me up, I'm up for anything!]
( benched for the season. )
currently forced to stay out of danger himself, and worried sick for meddy since they've been forced into recovery stasis for the time being, daylight is a little surprise to be signalled out. despite the fact he's been trying to creep closer and closer to cayde's current spot for the last five minutes or so, having become curious about what he's doing. ]
Um... Yeah. [ he gestures to a certain area, one that he recognises very well. ] I've been to the races. You're missing a few bits from it.
[ the usual enthusiasm and exuberance found in his voice is gone for the moment. his emission field, slow and sluggish, is simply sending out wave after wave of exhaustion-worry-uncertainty as he struggles to try and find some pep in him to turn this mood around. ]
i love daylight so much oh my goodness
He bucks up though, nodding and reaching out to start erasing a few lines near the 'race' section of the impromptu map.]
Fair enough, you wanna fill that in then, buddy?
i'm super excited for this thread, eeee \ o /
Give me a second to- You know. Get into position. [ given his height and mass, daylight needs to curl up within himself before he feels like he can reach over and begin to add his additions to the map.
he begins to doodle on the buildings and passages that are missing, the ones he's gotten a chance to become well acquainted with during his time here in the city. he does not skimp on the details either, given his artistic side. daylight takes his time to draw out the passages and buildings and routes. heck, he does his best to recreate the signs on the buildings.
the more daylight focuses on the map, daylight's emission field begins to ease up on its intensity and its type of emotions. it slowly switches from exhaustion to concentration, uncertainty to confidence. ]

But Cayde skirts to the side to give his new mechanical friend all the room he can. The train station isn't entirely roomy, but with enough finangling he's able to squeeze himself to the side so he can keep an eye on the map.
Whatever strangeness that had suddenly fallen over him is still concerning, but as time goes on he finds that he's bothered less and less by it; so much so that in the end the discomfort has been momentarily forgotten in favor of appreciating Daylight's artistic talents.
With a low whistle he leans in, studying the new additions.]
Good memory you got there.
no subject
in any case - daylight's winglets flick up the moment he hears of cayde's approval, the frame's kibble visibly fluttering in joy. his em field now shifts to flattered-happy-gratitude too, giddy and upbeat compared to the sluggish pace. ] Thanks!
Auntie Chris taught me all she could about sketching and mapmaking while she was still alive. [ while adding his own flair to it, of course, if the level of detail he put to his parts of the map is anything to go by. ] You're pretty good at this yourself! Are you a cartographer back where you're from, by any chance?
no subject
[Better to focus on the positive now though, because the oppressive atmosphere seems to be lifting and he's not keen on doing anything that could ruin this. Not when he's starting to finally feel a little better, and not when his new robotic comrade-in-arms seems to actually be perking up.]
That's a good question though. Tell you what, first off I don't think we've had a proper introduction, big guy. I'm Cayde-6, great to meet you. And no, I don't do a lot of the proper map drawing back home. Scouting for it, yes. I'm not quite a picasso though.
no subject
his train of thought literally comes screeching to a halt because of something cayde - cayde-6? is it important to add the number in? - said. did he mention- ]
Scouting? You're a scout too? As in 'look around and search the area' sort of scout? That's awesome! [ the more he speaks, the higher his pitch gets. somehow, someway.
his emission field is a whiplash of emotions, quickly shifting to excitement-giddiniess-hihihihi!! at the drop of a dime. perhaps best examplified by his next breathless set of words: ] I'm a scout too! What terrain do you like exploring the most? I think desert biomes are pretty neat, even if the sand gets caught in the seams since the sun makes the dunes look like gold and-
Oh! I'm Daylight, by the way. Daylight vis Lornlit. I actually have a longer name but it's way too long in my opinion so it's', like, a super bore to say so feel free to just call me 'Daylight' or 'Day' or whatever version you like, alright? Right!
[ is he missing something?
oh! yeah- ]
Hi!! [ and some excited winglet wiggles are thrown in because!! hello!!! ]
no subject
Really now? [There's a definite tinge of amusement in his voice.] Alright, slow down just a sec, slow down, slow down. Daylight. Huh, that's definitely a new one, good name. Pleasure to make your acquaintence, or however the posh people like to say it.
[This is...actually really cool. Cayde's gotten used to the idea of different worlds and different realities by now, but it's nice to find someone from the Circle who seems to be in at least sort of the same line of work. Definitely not completely similar, but if he squints real hard it works. Kind of.]
That's a good question, though. [He crosses his arms and considers for a few seconds.] I suppose I like anywhere, s'long as I'm free to do what I want to do I'm happy. I gotta say though, there's this place out in Old Russia back where I'm from, real gorgeous. Snow, mountains, scrubland... Lots of old Golden Age tech, lots of places to get into, lots of places to hide things. And if you get up high enough? You get the best view of the stars this side of the moon.

obvious consequences
Oddly, Arenvald has become used to androids who look like humans, and to see one who is so obviously a machine is… strange to him. He can put that aside, however, because it seems like even this far out, the Storm is taking its toll on those who are more of the… mechanical persuasion.
He runs over the instant he sees the man go down, but thankfully it looks like he’s still got some life in him. ]
Easy there. Let’s get you sorted.
[ He slings one of the stranger’s arms about his shoulders, looping his own arm around his waist to help him up. Arenvald is a big guy, and not unused to heavy lifting, but here’s hoping that just because this man looks like he’s made of metal means he doesn’t actually weigh like… a ton. ]
no subject
Thanks, appreciate it.
[Everything just feels off, between pain and malaise, and Cayde immediately resolves to get to the bottom of it when he's able to think clearly. Right now? He lets some of his weight rest against the man beside him; thankfully the eggheads that had made him had managed to use light materials.]
Okay. So. [There's a small sputter as his speaker crackles and pops with the electricity in the air. He tries, and fails, to cover it by making a noise as if he's clearing his throat.] That was weird. Gimme just a sec to sort myself out. Just wasn't expecting that, yeah?
[He's rambling now, but determined as ever to push forwards.] Like, two minutes. Gimme two minutes and I'll be back on my feet.
[Hopefully.]
no subject
We really ought to get away from that lightning, I think.
[ Can you manage it, buddy? ]
no subject
Why? You worried about it? [He laughs the best he can, making a weak gesture with his free hand.] We got a job to do, don't we?
no subject
[ He just watched the man collapse, after all. He already knows just how badly the Storm can hurt a mechanical being, thanks to a certain android sent by CyberLife, and he would hate to see any one of their number fall to it. ]
Right now, my job needs to be getting you back to the train station.
no subject
No worries, big guy. [He awkwardly pats the other man on the shoulder with the arm slung about him.] Like I said, gimme a minute and I'll be right as rain. I appreciate the concern though, really. So how's about we get back to work, yeah?
no subject
[ "Big guy" works too. It's accurate, at least.
But, he casts a look at the man currently leaning on him, arm slung about his shoulders, concern warring with disbelief in his expression. ]
That lightning bolt took you right off your feet. What if it's worse next time?
no subject
Don't have to worry about the lightning, I promise. Just caught me off guard, that's all. Nothing I can't handle. [Stubbornness, thy name is Cayde.]

01.
She's skittish, careful where she travels, afraid to get too close to the Storm. After all, she's seen what lightning can do to a mountainside, seen the forest fires... and here everything was so tall, taller even than the trees that attracted lightning already.
But then there's a voice, and the young centaur looks up in surprise, finally locating the figure... hanging out a window.]
- Me?
no subject
Hang on, one sec- [He disappears back inside for a moment before popping out again a moment later, something small wrapped in a scrap of cloth in hand.]
You good at catching?
no subject
But before she can protest they're gone and she's left staring up slightly bewildered yet and then they're back, but-]
Wait, wait- Is it breakable?
[She is good at catching, (she thinks?), but from that height even if she did catch it... just in case, she's already pulled her hands from the harness about her waist and finds herself hovering nervously.]
no subject
I mean, maybe? Just make sure to catch it, I don't know! It looked kinda tech-y?
[He has all the faith in you, Konoha! Especially because he's lobbing the bundle out the window without much more warning.]
You got this!
no subject
[He's thrown it before she even has half her protest out, and despite the fact that she has no idea who he is or what he's thrown at her... Konoha still moves to catch it, lurching forward-
Actually, too far forward, shit, shit-
In a panic, she rears up on her hind legs, forelegs kicking out for balance as human hands extend...
And grab the thing out the air, just barely, before she gets all four hooves back on the ground in a nervous clatter, clutching it to her chest.
... Phew.
Wait.]
... What is this?
no subject
She's got a good question though.]
I dunno! Looked like some sort of data-pad or something when I found it. I figure maybe if we can get it booted up it might have something on it? Or not. Then I guess it's just a really cool looking thing to put on the coffee table.
no subject
Konoha's expression is... (she thinks understandably) shocked, pulling the pad-like object from its current clutch against her bosom to extend her arms and look at it properly. It's... metal? No. "Plastic"? No, she's... not sure. But wait, that's not the point here.]
Next time, don't just throw it out the window! What it I'd dropped it?
[Also, what's a coffee table?]
no subject
[With a quiet grunt he manages to vault over the windowsill and out the window, landing heavily a few yards away without so much as a moment of concern. Admittedly, without his Light it does
Who knows, maybe this breaks everything wide open. You're a hero, you know that?
