a storm approaches.This log is for everyone who signed up for The Storm investigation. Feel free to use the here to plot further on how you plan on approaching The Storm, and the issue. The mod questions thread is also open, if you have anything you would like to run by us.
the investigation.It takes a day of preparation, and a day of discussion, before you are led further down into the tunnels. It's pitch black, but one of the BGs who you have become familiar enough with turns on a low light and continues further. You walk for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, and then turn a corner into a large, open cavern. The BG explains that at one time, this had been an underground transportation system - old and unused for centuries, now, but still in working order.
They file each of you onto a single car - it seems to be large enough to fit nearly a hundred, possibly more, bodies - so everyone has a space. The BG explains that they have already input the coordinates into the system, and that once they close the door, you will be transported to the last known location. The car will be programmed to wait for 72 hours, and then will return to this location. There is food and water supplied, and already packed, in the car. If you are not back in the car by that time, it will leave you behind. They then give their farewells, thank you for your help and readiness, and step away from the door - letting it close behind them. The car travels down a pitch black tunnel, and while the inside is dimly lit enough for the Circle Members to see each other and move around without hinderance, you can see nothing through the windows. It continues for a few hours at this rate - nothing to see, no idea where you are going. That is, until it seems to break through the surface, the track running through buildings and another, unknown area of the city.
The streets and buildings are abandoned, the tech old and outdated, windows broken out and dust filling the street. The sky, like back in the city you knew before, is cloudy and grey. But these clouds are different - these clouds are dark in a way you haven't seen before. You travel for another half hour above ground before the cart comes to a stop, and during this time it happens twice. A low rumble, seeming to come from everywhere at once, and then a few heartbeats after, a disasterous flash of lighting - miles away, yes, but threatening and gigantic, brighter and more violent than you've ever seen lightning before. The crash shakes the ground under you, and the damage is immense.
But the buildings are abandoned, the streets empty save for crates, old mechanical bits, dusty remnants of a society long forgotten by the Struxta you came from just a couple of days prior.
This is The Storm you've been warned about. the storm.You have been asked to find out information that will help the BG's, and Struxta, to stop The Storm.
From what you can gather, it does seem to be a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, as far as weather systems seem to work on this planet. However, rather than scattered thunder and lightning strikes, it seems to almost recharge and strike with epic proportions. It can damage, or destroy, buildings. It shorts out any and all items (and people) who depend on electricity in any form to function (Sorry Daylight and Conner, sorry to anyone who brought along technology) within a three mile radius.
The 'darkness' the BGs were talking about does follow this storm, but they seem to have been referring to this electrical shortage that comes from the storm and it's strikes. If this storm does reach any of the still-occupied areas of the city, it will shut down the entire grid, as well as any of the robots, androids, or electrically based figures that exist there - essentially ending the life of every Struxta citizen that is effected.
Plot, plan, theorize, and see if you can find a way to stop The Storm. If not, be back on the train car in 72 hours time, to return to the BGs and report what you have found.PROMPT IDEAS
1.) Discussions on the train - do you have any ideas for what to prepare? Any discussions you may want to have? You and your fellow Circle Members are caught here together for a few hours, driving into a situation you know very little about. What do you want to make sure you're prepared to handle?
2.) Scouting missions - the heart of The Storm is very much in the distance, and it is not moving quickly, giving Circle Members plenty of time to set out and check out the surrounding city. What you will find won't be much - this is a robotic ghost town in every turn of the phrase. Buildings have been abandoned for hundreds of years, covered in dust and left entirely undisturbed, except for the breeze that now seems to flit through this entire area. There are stores, warehouses, apartments, and buildings you can't even tell what they were used for, cleared out. Whenever, or whoever, lived in this part of Struxta had evacuated, quickly but efficiently.
3.) The Storm - The Storm is still a distance away from where the cart has dropped you off, enough that when your 72 hours are up, the heart of the storm and the lightning strikes shouldn't reach the car, or the track. This does mean that to do any closer investigation, you will need to go to The Storm itself. But be careful - the electrical output from these lightning strikes are dangerous, and can have all sorts of effects on both natural and mechanical beings. The wind, the closer you get to The Storm, will also pick up - making any kind of flying or air travel impossible.
4.) Planning - the car leaves everyone off at an old train station, which a large room attached. This room can be used as a kind of home base, as well as a meeting location. What do you plan on doing? Simply taking down information, or trying to take the storm head on? How do you plan on doing that? Will your abilities help? This room attached onto the train station is a safe location - no effects of The Storm will make it inside. Use as you would like! |

daylight tries to distract himself from thinking the ominous or else and a chance pops up when he finally realises that keith looks... very different from the last time they've met. ]

[Because this is what's in front of them, and they need to figure it out. So they will. A pause though at the question, and Keith manages to look sheepish for a moment.]
Yeah, I'm okay. It's sort of a long story. But uh... I went to bed one night and woke up the next morning with two years worth of memories, injuries, and growing. I don't really understand how, but it happened to Shiro and me at the same time.

he tilts his helm and his optics slowly fizz out and fizz in, the equivalency of a slow blink for him. that is quite an explanation to get. reminds him a bit of that story he heard while growing up in dust tumbles. a man who fell asleep and woke up the next day, changed and different.
that was a silly story that was told to entertain kiddos like him. this? not so much. ]
That is... That is a heck of a story, man. [ he frowns, still looking worried for his friend. ] You said something about injuries, right? They don't hurt, do they? Like no phantom pains or anything like that?
Do you need Meddy to do a checkup? Because Meddy can do a checkup.
[ well- at least it's enough to get him out of his funk. he starts to unfurl from his current bundled up position. even if that means keith has to watch out for errant limbs and winglets being stretched out to give the cables and joints a good yank. ]

[Keith concedes, leaning back against the nearest wall, arms crossing over his chest. The short version doesn't get into a two year timewarp on the back of a space whale with his newly found alien mother or his teleporting pet space wolf or everything that's happened with Shiro.]
I'm all right. It's been a couple days since we woke up, and Shiro and I-- [An odd pause here as he thinks back,] --patched each other up. Shiro was in worse shape than I was. It's just scars and healing bruises now. We're alive, and that's what matters.
[He dodges a bit as Daylight starts moving, but resettles against the wall.] Thanks though.

in the end, he goes with the second choice. but not without letting out a big ol' sigh to make his feelings clear on this. (idly, he wonders if this is what nightbreak or emergency aid feel whenever he's assisted to them that he was alright after getting into a scrape or two.) ]

[ admittedly, it's times like these he had wished he paid attention to emergency aid's offer to learn how to mend himself if something happen. some of that stuff could translate into helping humanoids, right?

... Honestly? I'm a little scared. [ he feels like kicking himself for saying that. unable to stop himself, daylight ducks his helm and rubs his cheeks. as if that'll stop the dark flush on his face from appearing.
he looks a little (okay, pretty) embarrassed to admit this but, well, it's the truth. the truth is important between friends, isn't? especially in moments like these? it must be important. ]This is definitely bigger than what we faced at El Minha. I think being scared is pretty normal.
[But he manages a smile, and continues.] But what's important is that we do it anyway. That we try, that we give it everything we've got. You're here, and you're facing this even if you are scared. That's real bravery, Daylight, being scared but keeping on going anyway.

[ daylight's winglets twitch in a thoughtful manner, careful and slow and unsure, as daylight tries to comprehend the idea that him being scared is him being brave. somehow, someway.
a part of him has a kneejerk reaction to protest the idea, childish and silly as it is to fight with someone who daylight knows is trying to up his spirits. he gets it! he gets it, really does. it's just- keith didn't seem to be afraid right. nightbreak isn't afraid and seems incapable of the emotion. his mom and dad and his family never seem afraid when he looks back, those times made soft and vibrant due to death and distance and desire.
thankfully the reaction is that: a reaction. one that he quashes down and he smiles at keith, trying to show bravado in spite of it all. ]
I-I didn't think bravery would be that. That's pretty- [ hm. what's a good word for what he thinks of it?
when in doubt, go with mom's favourite word: ] -That's pretty extraordinary. If I had known that? I would have admitted to being a big chicken over some of the things we get into waaaaay sooner.

[Keith shrugs a shoulder briefly as if he's not sure if that's a good enough explanation, but it's what he has. Words aren't his strong suit, but he's trying to be better at them.
He's trying to be better in general. It's an ongoing effort, something that he's focused on in the recently acquired years.]

daylight's smile is softer, more genuine. there's less teeth and glare in his grin now, but, in return, there's more honesty and relief in it. this smile actually reaches his optics. ] Thanks. This- This means a lot to me. It really does.
[ daylight has to laugh at the last bit, agreeing a lot to it. much as he believes in lady astoria's mission... yeah. that is a pretty accurate assesment of what they've been through so far.
first they had to help stop civil unrest from engulfing the city. now they have to help stop a death storm from engulfing the city. talk about escalation. ]
Think we can ask her to take us to, like, a resort world after this? [ if they ask real nicely? ]

[And he is. He likes Daylight quite a bit, and he's glad the other is along on this... absolutely crazy mission, despite it all.]
...heh. [A snort of a laugh.] Can't hurt to ask, but in my experience, it never seems to work out that way. Everywhere we got sent with Voltron or with the Blades... it's never the beach or the spa.

Back home... I'm a Paladin of Voltron. [This is not something he's been able to say for a long while, but that's not the point he's making.] There are five of us. And if we don't share a bond with each other and with our lions, we can't fight effectively. We can't form Voltron. Having friends by your side makes a big difference. It will here too.

[ he falls a little quiet, thoughtful as he thinks how it's pretty sad that the others aren't here. he would love to hear their stories, both adventures they had and the funny stories they could have about keith. ] I know, right now, it's only you and Shiro for now but- I hope we can help make up for the missing others!
