[open] you can lead a sick horse to water
Who: Konoha and YOU
Where: around the Temple
When: 8/28 - 9/20
Rating PG???
What: catch all log for hanging with a centaur before or after the sick sets in
01 | GARDENING | 8/28
[What Konoha really wanted to do was to go home. But she knows... She has to make the most of her situation. Has to try and stay positive the best she can. So, like she'd talked about with Nier... a garden seemed like a good idea. With the plants withering like they were planting didn't actually seem like it would work, but at least she could get the field ready? It seemed like something to do, at least, and hard labor is what Konoha did best.
So she gets to work. In the first few days she can be found out near the woods, sleeves tied back and a cloth wrapped around her forehead to keep sweat out of her eyes as she starts prepping the dirt. Digging out stones, ripping up dead roots, cutting away weeds, dragging a makeshift plow behind her to till the soil...
At the sight of anyone from the Circle, however, she takes a moment to give a friendly wave.]
02 | BATHHOUSE | 8/30
[All the plowing she's been doing works up a sweat, and it wasn't often she had the luxury of a bath big enough for jinba that wasn't... wading into the river. Not that there's anything wrong with rivers, but. The bathhouse at the temple is more luxurious than she's ever really tried before, and it's so comfortably hot???
She could be mistaken for a human woman at first glance, with all the steam, but the dark shadow in the water reveals her more equine half. That and the long black tail floating towards the top of the water. Sighing happily and resisting the urge to try and roll, Konoha lets her hair down from it's usual bun and sets about running her fingers through it to try and untangle it as she sinks a bit deeper into the water.]
Ah... This is nice.
03 | HELPING THE SICK | 9/5
[Konoha has never gotten sick when her parents or the other humans in the village had. She didn't really hear a lot about jinba getting sick at all, really... So she thinks it will be fine. She doesn't have enough education to know that this might be because, as similar as her upper body looks, a jinba and a human are different species, and not all sickness can cross those differences... She just knows that she's probably fine.
So she tries to help.]
Morning... I brought breakfast.
[She pokes her head in the door of one of the bedrooms in the Temple, smiling through the concern on her features and a steaming bowl of what looks like porridge in her hands.]
Feeling up to eating?
04 | KITCHEN STUMBLE | 9/12
[Fun fact for anyone studying this outbreak... Species doesn't matter. Jinba get sick, too.
She's been feeling tired, but... She's also been working hard as more and more people got sick. Hasn't really been sleeping well. The low fever, that... had been more concerning, but what could she do about it? She did tell someone, she wasn't trying to hide anything-
But she also didn't expect it to take a turn so fast. To be so clumsy as to catch a hoof on a stone, to send the basket of apples she'd been carrying rolling across the floor and her sprawling right after with a crash as her attempt to catch herself failed and only managed to knock cutlery off the counter.
She'll get up... She will. In a minute. Meanwhile, a lone apple rolls out the kitchen door.]
05 | HUMPTY DUMPTY | 9/17
[It's so hot. She knows it has to be because of the fever, knows she's supposed to sweat it out... but she still can't help the urge, anxiously twisting where she lies on the ground in her temple room to try and undo the bear hide wrap she wears tied about her waist, try and loosen the fit of her shirt as sweat beads on her dark skin.
Sometime in the last night... She's lost the strength to stand. Had gradually collapsed to her knees, then to her belly, and then to her side. She forgets how long ago. Long enough for the pillow she'd taken with her to soak with sweat, for her throat to parch and her stomachs to twist in protest, both starving for food and roiling to reject it.
The sound of a visitor... doesn't even really register.]

Woah, woah, you alright there? C'mon, let's get you up.
[There's actual worry in his voice as he spares a look around and takes in the clutter all over the floor.]
no subject
[Konoha is quick to try and assure, waving off any fuss as she smiles a bit dimly, dark skin a touch paler than usual. Surely not because she was sick. A human illness wasn't anything to a jinba, after all. (Right?) She was just tired, she should probably take a rest...]
I just chipped a hoof, that's all.
[She appreciates the hand, but she also... doesn't want to drag him to the ground. At nearly a half ton of muscle, she's definitely no delicate flower, and she also doesn't quite realize other Circle members may be stronger than the humans she's used to dealing with.]
I can get up on my own, just a second...
[To try and buy time to disguise a weak tremor in her back legs, she quickly begins gathering up some of the fallen apples, tsking softly at herself. Geez, the whole point of taking care of the sick people was so she didn't let anyone worry-]
no subject
Seems like a big deal, that was a pretty rough fall if I ever heard one.
[He snags an apple from the floor, briefly contemplating it as he thinks.] Seriously, that sounded like it hurt. And I'll be honest, I don't have hooves but if I did I feel like chipping them might be a big deal.
no subject
[Well, she was perfectly fine weight wise for her species, but!!! Compared to a human.
She gets her basket back upright and gestures for him to put her apple back in, tipping the ones she picks up back into the wicker with one hand while rubbing the back of her head with the other. Both in embarrassment as well as to quiet the ache building in her skull along with the fever.]
It doesn't look so bad...
[Jinba are pretty flexible despite their size, and Konoha leans forward to reach and inspect her front hoof, the small chip evident on the side. No, not so serious, just a consequence of the rough kitchen floor... still.]
Here, watch out... I'll get up-
[Sort... of. Part way.]
no subject
If you say so. [He's not going to believe that entirely. While he tosses the apple back into the basket, his attention is elsewhere. Namely making sure that she's actually getting up. Heavy or not, that sounded like a pretty rough fall.]
Right right. You need a hand?
no subject
[It takes her a minute to arrange herself, more than she should take, straightening out her forelegs and leaning forward onto her palms, getting her feet under her... but with a surge she manages it, even if she has to grip the counter a bit tightly right after.]
No, sorry-
[Her attempt to laugh it off doesn't go too well either as the room spins a bit.]
Did you want something to eat? I can make whatever you need.
no subject
Nah, but it looks like you could use a drink and a sit. Take a leg off for a few, I can grab you something. There's always time to relax.
no subject
I rested earlier, but... if you want to grab a bite I guess we can...
[If he wants to, of course! It's definitely not because she needs to.]
no subject
That's the cool thing about rest: you can do it more than once. [He reaches out as if to pat her haunch, but stops himself. Probably not polite, and definitely not when he's looking this off.]
Sit, sit. I got this, I totally got this.
[Hopefully. Either way, she needs to not push herself, and Cayde's willing to play a little underhanded if need be.]
no subject
He kind of reaches and then... stops? Which is weird, she blinks at his hand, but doesn't quite know what that was about, so...]
... okay.
[She sits. Or, kind of. Much like a dog would sit, more than a horse, she sort of rocks back and plants her rear on the ground, back legs splayed a bit and forelegs together in front. It still has her taller than most humans, but... it's this or laying down, and if she lays down... she's afraid getting up might be difficult. Sit it is.]
no subject
I'm thinking tea? [It's only sort of a question, he's fishing to figure out if that's the right thing for someone who looks this down and out.] Yes, no? Maybe? That counts, right?
no subject
[Tea is good for you. She thinks.
And as much as she might potentially appreciate a hot cup of it, particularly to soothe the itch of a cough building in her throat...
She also just wants to. See how metal Cayde drinks tea.]
no subject
And frankly, though he's not usually a tea drinker he doesn't...entirely ruin it? He's made enough cups for Ikora to at least get the basics down, and the leaves that he finds in the cabinet seem to smell soothing enough. Either way, a short while later there are two steaming cups of something that looks right enough, and he offers one over before raising a small toast with the other.]
no subject
[Concentrating on keeping her balance, Konoha tries to watch what he does, just to make sure... metal people know how to make tea. But he seems to be doing it right, and it smells okay...
So she takes it, and shakily peels a hand from the kitchen table to toast before taking a drink.]
... oh, not bad.
[It's hard to mess up tea... she probably shouldn't be surprised, but.
She's still definitely staring to watch how he drinks.]
no subject
[There's a flicker of his mouth lights, a grin, as he rests back against the counter, cup still in hand. As he goes to take a sip, he abruptly stops just a moment before the edge of the cup reaches his mouth plates. Instead, he motions towards Konoha herself with it instead.]
C'mon. Hydration will do you good.
no subject
[Cayde Six, why...
She's literally staring at this point, a bit too dazed to have a good handle on subtlety as she goes to take anther drink of her tea... and kind of misses her mouth and spills some right on her chest, but-
Never... mind... that...]
You're right... drinking never hut anyone...
[She gets it right the second time.]
no subject
Easy, easy. It'll do you better good inside than all over, yeah? Hang on, wait just-
[He sets his own cup down for a moment, rooting around in one of the pouches at his belt before producing a square of soft cloth that's slightly discolored with old stains. He offers it over, one browplate raised.]
no subject
Konoha almost whines even as she takes the cloth, completely oblivious to the stains as she weakly dabs at her chest.]
Thanks... I got it now...
[To demonstrate, she takes another sip... Then another sip...
Was he getting thirsty yet...]
no subject
[Still going to keep a critical eye on her though, between that fall and how not with it she still sounds, something is up. Something has to be up.
He snags his abandoned cup back, the warmth is nice even through his gloves, raises it and-
it's a fluid, almost graceful motion as he tips his head back and very neatly pours the liquid seemingly straight down his throat. The curse of having beveled metal for cheeks: not conducive at all for being able to sip and savor anything. Still, it's warm, liquid, and doesn't taste too offensive, and hell, this is a show of comraderie, right?]
no subject
[There it is... !
Okay, Konoha doesn't know what she expected, but, it somehow wasn't that. He just... like... it looks kind of like pouring tea into a cup but Cayde is the cup and the cup is the teapot? Fascinated and also a little dizzy still, she can't quite stop staring...!
Or spilling her tea on her chest again, drink dripping down her chin.]
It's good...
no subject
Didn't I say easy? No need to wear it, right?
[It's a little joke, and as if to make his point he uses his thumb to wisk away a few drops of tea that have managed to leak out the holes in his cheekplates.]
no subject
... eight million myriad of gods, the tea just leaks out of his face.
She can't stop herself any longer, she can't, she tried, and Konoha finally caves, weakly trying to wipe her now rather tea-stained bosom.]
Where... does the tea go...
no subject
Beats me. [An unhelpful response that's punctuated by a shrug.] Somewhere, I guess? Not too sure about how the old insides work, I'll be honest. I don't think any of us are, now that I think about it. Just that they do, and that's that. And let me tell you, I'm thankful for that; I can't imagine how awful life would be if I were robbed of the pleasures of a good meal and an even better drink.
no subject
[Konoha's gaze drops down to her own body, or... as much of it as she can see over her tea-stained chest and her other chest.
He talked like this metal thing was some kind of new development, but surely that was just her misunderstanding, right?]
no subject
[Perhaps he shouldn't be so nonchalant about that, but it's been an accepted thing for such a long time that the concept of it being weird doesn't even cross his mind.]
The eggheads that made me and everyone else like me are lonnnng gone, and wouldn't you know? They didn't leave us a user's manual. And I'm not gonna lie, I'm not really going to volunteer to have my guts looked at for science. I like them staying inside me, for the most part.
[He furrows his browplates, thinking hard.]
I mean, I don't have a stomach? That one I'm sure about. So beats me where anything goes in there.
