PIPE WRENCH FIGHT [Open]
Who: Wash and anyone who wants to join
Where: Network and fighting ring
When: Early November, a few days before the Akvos world jump
Rating: TBD depending on thread content
What: Wash starts the Circle's first fight club. Kind of.
[This will be poster's choice - I'll put the network invitation in Wash's toplevel, but the long and short of it is, he'll be holding combat training for those who want to learn how to fight, and those who want to help teach are open as well. Feel free to make toplevels learning and/or teaching, and let me know if you need anything more or want prompt ideas!]

Wash | Teaching hand to hand and knife fighting
[The video shows Wash, standing in front of the fighting ring and looking expectant.]
It's come to my attention recently that not everyone here knows how to fight - either with the weapons Astoria's provided or at all. I figured the best thing we can do is teach each other - that way, if we wind up in a combat situation on our next world, we'll know how to handle it.
I'll be here for the rest of the day teaching basic hand to hand and knife combat. If anyone wants to learn, or if you have a skill you want to teach, you know where to find me.
II. It's Chorus all over again]
[True to his word, Wash is spending the rest of his day at the fighting ring. He's teaching hand-to-hand to some people, on their own and in group classes, and knife combat to others (though that's one-on-one only). He's also helping with others' lessons if need be, and will chat with the other teachers as well if they're taking a break. While he could do this on his own, it's easier with other people helping, and he appreciates it.]
[OOC: Hit me up at
voice.
(the voice is deceptively soft, low, and tired. someone doesn't want to be here.)
What's the current divide?

Yo! You the dude offerin' up help learnin' how to fight proper?
[ Not that Beat doesn't know how to fight but it's less actual fighting and more just put your fist into the other persons face more times than they put their fist in your face and hope you win. ]

[Okay, hand-to-hand only for this one, because he is not teaching a kid how to wield a knife.]

[Well, he can't back out now, and turning down help from someone who actually knows what they're doing would be a mistake, even if Wash still isn't sure how to handle North actually being here.]

Okay, he can, but it'd look even weirder and he'd be accountable to people besides his old teammates, who are still bewildered by the lengths he's gone to hide. ]
Hey Wash, I've got a skill I want to teach.

[Which is why he takes that half second to silently curse York's willingness to take advantage of his attempted good deed - really, what else should have he expected? - before responding.]
If it's infiltration, you can do that on your own time.

I was trained in combat since I was a small girl, but in a type of magic I do not have here.

Aren't you new here?
[Read: don't talk if you don't know.]
[But the subject change is welcome - right now, he'd rather talk business than snipe.
Sniping can come later.]Do you want other training to supplement it?

He arrives at the training ring in the afternoon, surveying the group gathered there with a slightly impressed smile. It's definitely the most people he's ever seen in this place at one time.]
Hey. [He waves in greeting once he spots Wash.] Think you've got room for one more?
[He's not even wearing a hat, so clearly this is serious.]
hei, doing nothing productive.
now he's watching the matches, leaning back in an overly casual recline in the stands, coat spread over the stairs. like an adults-only picnic.)
The timing could've used some work. (sips.) Too late now.

[ Yeah he figures that comment was aimed at him because he'd just tried to block a dummies attack and ended up sprawled on his back for his efforts.
He's sweaty, his muscles ache, he's huffing and puffing for once in his life, and Mister Heckle out there is really starting to get to him. He covers his face with his hands to scrub briefly and pull himself into a sitting up position. Ugh. ]

(that's as honest as the man gets, actually, even if he was taking a strip off of beat's solo training in his head. the guy's trying his best which is more than hei can say for some others who'd rather wile away their time... doing exactly what he's currently doing now...
everyone's their own worst critic. except when hei's present.)

[ Zero isn't really here to be productive or helpful either. But she's teetering on the edge of stir-crazy and thus is naturally drawn to any event where fisticuffs may happen in some capacity. Butting into conversations people seem to be having with themselves also, is a great way to kill time. So that's exactly what she does. ]
What're you talking about?
[ She nudges him with the toe of her shoe, pausing in her climb down the stands. ]
Stop mumbling.
no, thank god honestly
(that's his only protest, finding that his laziness begets apathy. that's one of the laws of physics, isn't it? he'll remain at rest until acted upon by an external force. in this case it's his shitty wine, lifting his arm to tilt it into his mouth.)
They're not going to learn anything in this short a time.

So, as Hei pipes up, she glances over at him. ]
It may be short notice, but that doesn't mean there's no value in it. Perhaps they can pick up some defensive maneuvers for our next excursion.
[ ... Well, not that one. Lucina bites back a wince as one would-be combatant gets slugged across the chin and staggers back a few steps. ]

hei knows. even if it's buried deep, the doubt is as present as it is in all things.)
Defensive maneuvers aren't going to cut it, not when it's entire worlds this witch wants saved. (he has no love for astoria right now, and likely won't for the duration of his stay.) Are you going to tell me they have other useful talents? This is a waste of their lives.

[ There are few things that get Makoto fired up like a good, routine spar — unfortunately, one of those things is being ridiculed by random adults in the stands. Wheeling right around, she narrows his eyes as she picks out her heckler. Armed with a pair of tekko in her hands, she places her hands on her hips and cuts back with: ]

He doesn’t sit (not yet, anyhow), footsteps heralding a steady approach as he comes to a stop next to where Hei is seated. Hands clasping behind his back, fingers flexing only slightly, he joins in the peanut gallery commentary.]
All the more reason for them to practice. Even a small amount of preparation is better than none at all.
[And because he doesn’t ever hope to shy away from encouragement, of providing some mode of helpfulness—]
It’s good that they have the motivation.

Hey! Ready to get started?
Ruki | OTA
Especially after discovering what her magical ability was. Thanks to Takeru's hint, it hadn't taken her too long to 'trigger' it activating and Ruki had always been one to seek perfection and power. Perhaps not so much now, but in a situation like this it seemed foolish not to try to work harder at fighting. She couldn't rely on Renamon here, she was on her own, and she wasn't about to be useless either.
If you are already in the ring, she'll sort of glance your way, but she hadn't been paying attention to the network so she wasn't aware that there was a 'fight club' going on. Instead she just blurts out, "What are you doing here?" Especially if said person might not look like much of a fighter. Apologies in advanced if she comes across as a little...judgmental.
However, maybe you're just arriving, in which case you'll find her standing at one end of the ring. Nothing happens at first, except she appears to be concentrating and running her hand over a strange device out of habit. The air in front of her shimmers and a semi-transparent fox-like creature appears. It doesn't move at first either, but then Ruki focuses her sights on the training dummies across from her and points.
"Get'em...," she almost says a name, but catches herself. It may take Renamon's shape, but this is not Renamon. Still, whatever power this is the projection moves and slashes at the dummy.
