As soon as they were able to, Bucky had sent Steve a message to meet him near the palace. It was, of course, an excuse to check up on his best friend and also to see if he could maybe get Steve to ask around about things. These days, Bucky is not especially good at charming people; so he hasn’t been able to get much information. Maybe Steve could help with that.

It was also an excuse to talk, honestly. He and Steve were still not as close as they had been, but Bucky had admittedly been making himself scarce. The sight of Steve, sometimes, brought back a whole bunch of memories at once; but he’s calmed down enough to be able to deal with that when he needs to. So he waits, swimming in circles in lieu of pacing and trying not to look too suspicious.

He pretty much books it for his friends the second he is positive nothing is standing in the way. Things are different between them. Steve knows that. He's still happy to see him. That couldn't be more obvious as he swims over without taking a break to basically tackle hug the other man.

He'd never admit it out loud, but every so often he had to wonder if the worst came to pass. Did Bucky get killed here without him knowing it? Sent home? Hurt? Seeing him whole and fine does a lot to set him at ease. There will be time for planning and reunions with the others later. Right now his focus is on the man with him.

It’s not hard to send him flying, considering they’re currently underwater. But he was about to do the same to Steve anyway, so he grins and returns the hug. “Glad you’re in one piece, big fella.” He is, too, the last month had been full of nothing but niggling worry. He knows what Steve gets up to in general, and especially when he’s not around.

“You are, right?” If he sounds a little anxious, he has good reason to. Steve had been sick when he arrived, after all.

Steve nods, reluctantly pulling away to give the man his space. "I'm in the clear, Buck. Good health." Not so much on the mental side of things. Steve doesn't want to get into that pretty much ever especially with Bucky.

"Good." He doesn't pull away too much, just enough to give Steve another quick visual check. He's remembered, now, how Steve would sometimes hide things back in the day.

"...Sorry I've been ...gone, a lot," he offers, tentatively. Other than the whole 'being separated for a month' thing, of course. "I'm -- a little better now. I guess."
