( intro log # 1 )

the temple of beginnings.
we're all a little mad here.

Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.

Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.

Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.

...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.

That’s always an option, isn’t it?
oh my god they were roommates.

It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)

These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.

Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.

Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it!
wildcard.

The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.

The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.

At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

[Ikaruga has always handled danger and alarming situations with enviable serenity, but finding herself taken away from the people she'd started forming an attachment to in that other world, abruptly waking up here, discovering that her magic is no longer working, and finding that she has a new power instead all at once? Well, it's a lot. Astoria's chirpy and entirely unhelpful "Because" has done nothing to endear Ikaruga to her and her new circumstances.

At least she still has her sword, and her new powers have the same aesthetic as her magical aura. She's also glad that she has one of her two mutant cats and a few personal belongings. Or she arrived with one of her two cats. She's not sure where Shimmer ran off to, and she should probably investigate that.

Currently, her sword is at her hip. Her powers, in their passive state, just look like pink glowing flower petals floating around her.
]

My apologies for the intrusion. I am Ikaruga. Perchance, have you seen a golden cat with a single large eye around here?

[She glances at the sword, but doesn't comment just yet. Introductions and locating her cat take precedence.]

[ indeed, strangers in his private space is annoying, and lotor opens his mouth slightly to tell ikaruga to (kindly) get out of his space when she then asks the most important question of all, which is: ]

. . . I'm sorry, have I seen a what?

[ did she say a golden cat? ]
elegant_and_proud: (explaining)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2019-02-09 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
A cat.

[It occurs to her that he might not have seen a cat before, considering that he's clearly not human, but she'll try again.]

She has golden coloured fur, a slim build with a bushier tail, and a single large eye in the middle of her face.

[She gestures with her hands to show the cat's approximate size dimensions.]

When she left my room, she was headed in this direction.

[ lotor does know what a cat is -- he's had one, what felt like ages ago . . . but it's really the large single eye in the middle of the face that catches his attention, and his eyebrows arch slightly, as ikaruga gestures to describe how big the cat is. ]

I've never see a cyclopic cat before.

[ interesting. ]

But cats wander, as cats tend to -- I'm certain she will turn up one way or another, but I have not seen a golden one-eyed cat wandering around my room, as of late.

All of the cats that arrived in that other world I was in were rather strange.

[Not "my world". Instead, it's "that other world". Ikaruga's slipping that into the conversation casually because she's curious as to how many others have been taken away from their homes abruptly like this before.]

I had a second one that was red and scaly with wings. He did not arrive with me.

[She's not going to bother Lotor for too much longer. A little bit of polite smalltalk before she departs doesn't hurt, though.]

Pardon my curiousity, but that sword. Is it a local design, or one from your own world?
unpatriarchal: (046.)

[personal profile] unpatriarchal 2019-02-13 06:48 pm (UTC)(link)
My own cat was telepathic, so perhaps something is in the water.

[ weird cats are better than normal cats, in his professional opinion, but at the ask of the sword, lotor's eyes move to the corner, where the electrical sword sits, alongside an altean broadsword. ]

A bit of both; the broadsword is from home. The other one is from a world known as Akvos, where we just returned from. I was given it by a local, to assist in the fight against monsters that had attacked their city. It came with me, when I journeyed back here.

Or regional differences, perhaps. I did see a winged cat in my homeworld once. Unusual, but magic does sometimes cause mutations.

[The most common being unusual hair and eye colours, although there are some that are far more dramatic.

She listens attentively as he explains the blades. She has to wonder if the blade from Akvos is sparking because of technology or magic, or perhaps a fusion of the two. But for now, she focuses on the opportunity that she sees. She hates to let her skills dull. Especially now that she has a new power to work on mastering. Keeping up her skills as a swordswoman will be extra important.
]

I will have to challenge you to a friendly sparring match sometime.
unpatriarchal: (010.)

[personal profile] unpatriarchal 2019-02-18 08:20 pm (UTC)(link)
[ there's a slight arching of his brows, at the offer, and shrugs a shoulder. curious; most people don't immediately offer, and lotor allows his eyes to wander, scanning ikaruga up and down briefly before saying: ]

A friendly sparring match?

[ amused, at the thought. ]

As opposed to an adversarial one?
elegant_and_proud: (smug wink)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2019-02-19 04:01 am (UTC)(link)
Some people do take having a competitive spirit to the extreme.

[Usually younger mages who want to prove their strength to everyone and everything. It's unintentionally hilarious, much like a kitten fluffing out its fur to try to look bigger, and Ikaruga doesn't bother to hide her mirth.]

unpatriarchal: (018.)

[personal profile] unpatriarchal 2019-02-19 08:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Perish the thought.

[ lotor is an extraordinarily competitive person, and is also an awful loser, but he will never admit to either of those things out loud, thank you!! ]

There are quite a few skilled warriors in the Circle, but I am always looking for an opportunity to practice against someone new. And given our penchant for getting into trouble, keeping your skills honed is a wise idea, regardless of your opponent.
elegant_and_proud: (devious)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2019-02-23 07:44 pm (UTC)(link)
A penchant for getting into trouble, you say? I feel more at home already.

[Despite the clear amusement, she's actually sincere about that. Life in a mage guild and then that other world she was in meant being getting into trouble was a semi-regular occurrence.]

I look forward to meeting and sparring with the others soon, then. If I must be brought here at random to save worlds, at least I'll be doing so alongside competent people.

[She's still processing it all, but she's adaptable enough to consider the important points of her current situation. Having competent...allies? colleagues? Fellow Circle members? Whatever the terminology, she's glad that there are capable people around.]

Might I have your name?
unpatriarchal: (027.)

[personal profile] unpatriarchal 2019-02-25 08:11 pm (UTC)(link)
[ it's roughly a 50/50 shot, if lotor introduces himself by his title. he tends to only do so when someone has offered a title in return, if only to remind the rest of the circle that they, too, are not special simply for the fact of being from royalty, or the military, or whatever other little sect they come from.

but ikaruga is interesting, and interesting typically means smart, to lotor, and so he withholds that piece of information about himself, instead saying: ]

Lotor.

[ simple enough, with an incline of his head. ]

Welcome to the Circle, for whatever that's worth.
elegant_and_proud: (surprised)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2019-02-26 03:28 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, Lotor. It's a pleasure to meet you.

[She nods her head in return. She's happy to potentially have a sparring partner, and Lotor has manners. Both good things.]

I have one last question. Has Astoria ever provided a more detailed explanation for taking away people's abilities and replacing them with new ones than "because"?

[She isn't making air quotes, but the way she emphasizes the word, it's clear that she doesn't appreciate the non-answer.]

It seems...counterintuitive.

[Or less formally stated, WTF is Astoria smoking?]
unpatriarchal: (048.)

[personal profile] unpatriarchal 2019-03-01 09:14 pm (UTC)(link)
[ a common question, and lotor offers a soft huff to himself, amused at the question, and also in agreement at the ludicrousness of their situation. ]

Something about the Temple robs people of their powers, and granting us new abilities is Astoria's way of making up for it. According to her, of course, and we have absolutely no idea how true or not that is.

[ Astoria tends to be avoidant, in lotor's professional opinion, but who is he to pass judgment? ]

It seems to remain consistent across the board, however. No one who arrives here arrives whole, so to speak. All of us are weakened, to some extent, with Astoria's power-granting the sole exception.
elegant_and_proud: (Default)

[personal profile] elegant_and_proud 2019-03-04 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
Noted. I shall not take it personally, then.

[She's still not happy about it, and it seems absurd to weaken people rather than allowing them to fight at full capacity. It leaves her with some doubt as to Astoria's intentions, but she's willing to acknowledge that it's possible that Astoria could be telling the truth.

The last beings she dealt with who had power on a similar scale had been fairly truthful, more the sorts to omit information than to tell falsehood. She'll simply wait and see how things unfold. It's not as if she can do much else.
]

Thank you for your time. I won't intrude on your privacy any longer.

[Because she does recognize that it was an intrusion, no matter how courteous Lotor was about it. She inclines her head politely.]

Do let me know when you want to spar.
