the temple of beginnings.we're all a little mad here.
Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.
Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.
Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.
...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.
That’s always an option, isn’t it? oh my god they were roommates.
It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)
These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.
Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.
Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it! wildcard.
The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.
The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.
At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

I.
It's some part of the plant.
[ There might be some vines also near Jun's ankles, but they're not moving... right now. However, he's close enough to the flowers for one to add, ]
I definitely saw that.
[ Oops. Jun gives the unfamiliar supernatural element a half-hearted glare and continues on. ]
It's not a big deal. You didn't hurt anything?
no subject
[He doesn't sound surprised by this so much as a bit annoyed. Dryads and the like are usually polite enough to keep their chatter to subjects like their trees and how nice sunshine is, not his inner monologue. Rude, plants.
All at once the vines around his ankles are shuddering as they pull loose, and Quentin sighs in relief, even as Spike trots back out looking terrible proud of itself. He reaches out to pet the rose goblin -- carefully -- before gathering it in his arms and standing to look toward the person who'd spoken.]
I'm fine. I mean, maybe my pride is a little bruised, but it'll recover. Probably.
[And then another helpful flower,] 'He definitely heard that before. And saw the whole falling flat thing. Great job'
[A sigh and he mutters,] Or maybe it won't recover.
no subject
[ Jun still doesn't walk any closer, not wanting to risk the vines grabbing onto him as well. Projecting his voice will have to do. ]
I'd rather not have that happen to me.
[ Oops, part two. ]
What's that... pet of yours?
no subject
I mean, I can't really blame you. That sucked.
[A lot. He glances down at the rose goblin in his arms.] This is Spike. It's a rose goblin.
no subject
What is that?
Uh— [ Jun holds his breath in for a second, and then sighs. ] I might as well ask. What's a rose goblin? Is it like one of those vine plants?
no subject
Spike's... well. It's sort of a rosebush. But also kind of an animal. [Still mostly plant. He moves to pet the little rose goblin carefully -- like petting a particularly thorny hedgehog, the trick is to pet with spines instead of against them.]
Spike's not like those vines. It's from my world.
no subject
[ A rosebush and an animal? That goes against all the laws of biology that Jun knows.
But a lot of things are going what he thought he understood, so he's kind of stuck dealing with it. ]
Is it your pet?
no subject
I guess that's a fair point. But... it makes sense in Faerie. Things work different in Faerie than they do in the human world. Spike's a rose goblin, and rose goblins are rosebushes, but they're also cute and animate.
[He holds said rose goblin out as a way of demonstration. See? Cute. Spike rattles its thorns and chirps.]
Technically it's Toby's pet, I think. But we all live in the same house.
no subject
I'm afraid I don't know who Toby is. Spike seems to like you enough, though.
no subject
[He cuts off because "knight" probably won't go over well with this guy given the looks he's been getting already.]
She's my friend. And also sort of my guardian? I live with her and her... [Former death omen...] ...sister, and her sister's girlfriend. And Spike, of course.
[So the rose goblin does like him well enough, and Quentin likes it quite a bit in return.]
no subject
So do the rooms just change to fit people and their pets? Or do you live somewhere not among these— [ Mysteriously antiquated lodgings. ] —rooms?
no subject
But... it sort of seems like a knowe, so maybe it can change as it needs to be.
[But that's a guess at best..]
Did you just get here too?
no subject
[ That bit of familiarity, even if he only has one of them, does make him feel better about his weird, confusing life events. ]
I did just get here. What's a 'knowe'?
no subject
[So Astoria is in the business of pet-napping as well as kidnapping. Quentin hesitates a minute at the next question. Usually, talking about Faerie to a human is forbidden. But these circumstances are different, right?]
A knowe is... well. Have you ever heard the old faerie tales about faerie circles and hollow hills?
no subject
[ As much as he loves his birds, they're not... animate rose bushes. ]
I've read the basic ones. But I don't know that much. Humans get taken away when they get trapped in a faerie circle, right?
no subject
[Technically Etienne had sort of stolen Bridget away into Faerie, but she'd agreed to it, and she still commuted to her job at the university and came and went as she wished, so it's not the same.]
But yeah, basically that. A knowe is a piece of Faerie that's connected to the human world.
no subject
So going between dimensions and worlds, you've done it before. [ And with slight curiosity, ] You look like a regular human.
no subject
[He's a modern Fae with modern sensibilities. Mostly. At the very least, he's fond enough of humans. His first girlfriend was human. His knight is half human.]
Between realms. They're all part of the same world. Faerie and the human world coexist. So I think it's different than... this.
[But oh yeah. That last point there. He lifts a hand, running it through his hair like he's trying to shake loose some tangles and the illusion he'd cast on himself fades. His hair has shifted from blond to a metallic shade of bronze, ears tapered into sharp points, features sharper than they ought to be, eyes far too blue to be naturally occurring in a human.]
That's the point of the disguise.
