the temple of beginnings.we're all a little mad here.
Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.
Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.
Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.
...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.
That’s always an option, isn’t it? oh my god they were roommates.
It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)
These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.
Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.
Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it! wildcard.
The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.
The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.
At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

yesssss
And she'd met new people, too.]
Oh- Inej!
[She'd been keeping so busy in order to not think about how Akvos had ended, but... how rude she'd been, not thanking the people who had helped her in those confusing times.
Belated as it was, she bows from the waist over the large basket of fruit in her arms, staying down a moment or two.]
Thank you. For taking care of me in Ketterdam.
[In the end, it had been one of the less painful visits she'd had... But who knows what might have happened. She's afraid to even wonder.]

It's . . . it was the least I could do; my city is not for everyone.
[ to say the least, and inej moves closer, lowering her hands. ]
I am just glad you weren't hurt, when you visited. Even if it wasn't real.
[ ketterdam chews people like konoha up and spits them out for fun. the poor woman would have surely been robbed, mugged, or worse. ]
no subject
[Konoha straightens up with a small smile of relief, re-situating the basket in her arms as she recalls the hard stone streets, the solid clusters of houses, the strange smells, the impressive church-thing. Also some shady characters.]
Were you able to at least see something good from home... ?
[Some people, it seemed, had seen only the worst- nightmares disguised as reality. But...]
no subject
maybe, anyway. ]
I got to see my family again. [ that counts as something good, even if it was fake. ] And Kaz and I found each other in Ketterdam, so we could get out together. That has to count for something.
no subject
[Konoha's expression softens a bit in recollection, a bit sad, a bit happy.]
I was able to see my family, too. Even if it wasn't truly real...
[She gives a small, helpless sort of chuckle, tucking a bit of hair back behind her ear.]
I think it counts. Is what I'm trying to say.
no subject
It does count.
[ after a moment or two of silence. ]
But . . . [ how much does she say? ] I have not seen them -- my parents, for so many years that I was angry, while I was there. Because I knew it was not real. It was like being outside of my own body, and watching someone else interact with them . . . even though it was me, they did not recognize that I had changed. It was just a memory.
[ she pauses. ]
But it was good, to see them again. You're right, Konoha, in that it does count.
no subject
You haven't seen them in that long? Do they live in the country or something?
[Coming from the sort of culture she did, the idea of not seeing one's parents for so long unless they were dead was sort of surprising.
Or maybe it was more surprising that she still had the capacity to be surprised by such a thing after seeing robots and the scenery under the sea, but.]

[ neutrally, her tone carefully kept. but the words feel dishonest, in her mouth, and while inej has zero interest in discussing the darker parts of her past, she also feels . . . somewhat bad that konoha is just trying to be nice.
and so, she exhales slowly. ]
I was taken from them, a long time ago. [ she spares the gorier details, but shrugs a shoulder slightly. ] I will make my way back to them one day, but it was . . . difficult, to see them again, after being away from them for so long.
no subject
Konoha regrets asking, if only because she hadn't meant to dredge up bad memories, but she's already done it, and she can hardly act as if she hadn't now. Still, she can't help but feel sorry for such a situation, lips turning down in a sympathetic expression before she tries to smile instead, to hope that-]
Then I hope next time you see them... It will be real.
[She hoped the same for herself, for everyone.]
I mean... We're learning a lot of things here we never would in our own worlds, so. I'm sure when we make our way home we'll be able to do things we never would have before.
no subject
[ after half a moment, looking over at konoha, her dark eyes questioning, her brow furrowed. ]
Or that . . . I am not sure, I was just surprised to find that this place exists, and no one knows. Why us? Why select us, from our worlds?
[ and inej lets out a slow breath, frustrated, before looking (and sounding) apologetically at konoha. ]
. . . sorry, I just -- none of this makes any sense, and I cannot fathom that I was so close to home, just to be ripped away from it for no reason.
no subject
[Konoha's gaze mirrors Inej's own, just as confused despite the time she has spent in the Circle, months and months away from home. She wasn't a fighter, she'd told the witch as much... but.]
But she did promise that when we go home it will be like we were never gone at all... But that's just what she said.
[As to whether to trust it...]
