( intro log # 1 )

the temple of beginnings.
we're all a little mad here.

Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.

Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.

Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.

...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.

That’s always an option, isn’t it?
oh my god they were roommates.

It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)

These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.

Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.

Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it!
wildcard.

The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.

The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.

At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

[ Wow, a bit harsh, but Jun can't say he's never been there himself. He follows the look towards the tree and follows it with a small shrug. ]

You should tell Astoria that I'm not cut out for her battles, then. What's up with your disappearing act?

[The tiniest hint of a sheepish smile tugs at the corner of his otherwise dour face.] I guess you could say I panicked.

[What a wonderfully useless explanation. If he submitted it as an essay, all his teachers would have heart attacks. It's just that being a little reticent is a habit... or maybe he's more embarrassed by this than he thought? Oh well, he can figure that out later.]

It... This power feels similar to the psychic powers I'm used to, so I keep forgetting it's something different. It didn't help, anyway. Either those things can see right through it, or it didn't last long enough.

[ Yeah, that explanation tells Jun nothing. Par for the course in his life, though. ]

What was disappearing supposed to do? You and the wyvern went away—if you didn't actually disappear.

[ That also begs the question of what psychic powers he is used to. ]
guiltycharge: (* take care of it)

We didn't go anywhere, I just hid. [The personal symbolism is not lost on him, and also really damn annoying.] Give me your hand and I'll show you.

[He looks down at himself for a moment, apparently thinking.]

...But you don't have to. It isn't a useful power the way it is now.

[ Sounds... risky. But this whole place seems dangerous, so Jun makes the decision and extends his hand. ]

As long as it's not dangerous.

Probably.

[He needs more practice at sounding reassuring. Of course, right now, Ritsu kind of feels like he needs more practice at everything. Nevertheless, he takes Jun's proffered hand with only the tiniest frown of trepidation. He's done this a couple of times now... please, new power, do as he says...

He concentrates. He feels it ripple out from somewhere inside him, like the beginning of a psychic barrier, but somehow heavier. He lets it flow out as far as his hand - his hand, without fanfare, now gripping apparently empty air. Jun's arm seems to just stop at the wrist, the cross-section flat and featureless. But his hand is still unambiguously there, its weight and sense of touch not affected in the slightest by going invisible.

After a few seconds, it reappears, the illusion broken. Ritsu glances uncertainly up at Jun for just a moment before remembering to let go.]

[ Here, Jun just doesn't know what to expect, since back in his world the only magic he knew was his own. And it wasn't even really magic, just some... weird sensitivity to another wavelength. Something like that. And since arriving here, the magic has mostly been indirect. Things changing around him, flowers talking at him.

Nothing with this kind of contact. Jun's mouth tightens slightly just before Ritsu takes his hand and makes it disappear. ]

So why'd you think that'd get the wyvern off of you?

[ He takes his hand back, flexing his fingers curiously. ]
guiltycharge: (* half truth)

[Ritsu looks at his own hand for a moment longer like he can't quite believe it worked again either, but lets it drop back to his side soon enough.]

There isn't really a reason, any more than I know why I was brought here. I just did it. [He shoots another glance at the wyverns overhead.] Guess me and those guys have that much in common.
