( intro log # 1 )

the temple of beginnings.
we're all a little mad here.

Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.

Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.

Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.

...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.

That’s always an option, isn’t it?
oh my god they were roommates.

It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)

These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.

Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.

Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it!
wildcard.

The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.

The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.

At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

Can't disagree on California.

[He's only ever been to Alcatraz, so there are some bad feelings there.]

But Faerie?

[His tone is wary as he braces himself for some weird magic stuff--it's like it never ends. As for why he asks anyway, he just can't help it; he's too curious. You can't not ask the guy holding a weird rose goblin about where he's from.]
blindfoster: (fae22)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-12 07:12 pm (UTC)(link)
[Hey! Alcatraz is right nearby where he lives these days. Not that Quentin has been, exactly, but Toby's enchanted shoes got left there once.

Anyway.

Quentin considers for a moment before figuring,]

'Well, screw it.'

[Which a flower announces for him and has the blond blushing faintly before shrugging. He lifts a hand to run through his hair and shakes off the illusion he's wearing at the same time. He's still recognizable as the same person. But his ears are sharply pointed, hair less regularly blond and more a metallic bronze color, his features and bone structure all a little too fine to be normal, eyes a blue that's far too bright to be normal.]

Faerie. The realm of the Fae. Though a lot of us live in the human world too, just... we're pretty good at hiding.
foundafamily: (Startled)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-13 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
[The transformation is so disorienting that--silly as it makes him feel--Firo catches himself blinking a few times to check his eyes.

And here the guy talks about it like it's normal, which Firo supposes it is normal to him, but it's sure as hell not normal to Firo.]

What'd you just do?
blindfoster: (fae21)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-13 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
I broke my illusion spell.

[Quentin answers, and by his tone, yeah, definitely normal. But he does get that it probably isn't normal to most people -- especially human people.]

Most of us craft that sort of illusion whenever we're out among humans. But... this place isn't exactly the mortal world. So...

[He's throwing in the towel on that pretense. For now.]
foundafamily: (pic#7645517)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-15 01:37 am (UTC)(link)
...Uh-huh.

[One of the flowers nearby picks up his resigned thoughts on that: Guess I don't have much of a choice but to believe that.

They are, after all, in a world that Firo can't pretend isn't magic, and how else could the sudden change in appearance be explained? In a case like this, it's easier to just go along with it.]

First you're a king, now you're a--a fae?
blindfoster: (fae06)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-15 02:46 am (UTC)(link)
Most kings are something else aren't they? Humans are kings .Or well, I guess more often prime ministers and presidents, but whatever.

[A shrug. Look. He's aware his world is weird at least. He does grin a bit at the flower announcement.]

This all must be strange if you aren't used to it.
foundafamily: (Thinking for once?)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-16 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
[You can say that again. Firo half-smiles and nods.]

Yeah, you don't run into either of those where I'm from.
blindfoster: (human11)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-16 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
Well, that might be on purpose. If there are Fae in your world, they probably keep themselves secret from humans.

[That's the name of the game. So. Maybe there's less normal in this guy's homeworld than he thinks. Is that comforting?

Maybe not comforting. Oh well.]
foundafamily: (:/)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-16 02:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yeah, not comforting. Firo presses his hand to his forehead and doesn't hold back on the sarcasm:]

Well, that's good to know. Not like I can do anything about it.

[After a pause, he adds:]

And I think people've already gotten rid of most of the kings.

[So that explains why that part's so weird for him too. Mostly, he might (definitely) just be saying that to try and make this guy uncomfortable in return for that thought about people who can change their faces skulking around everywhere.]
blindfoster: (Default)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-17 07:55 am (UTC)(link)
No probably not.

[Quentin shrugs at that.] Humans, mostly. Faerie is all kings and queens, dukes and duchesses. [A pause and he adds,] Besides, I'm Canadian.

[Even human Canada still looks to the British monarch as head of state. Quentin doesn't seem all that bothered by it.]
foundafamily: (Thinking for once?)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-17 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Canada? [He tries not to sound too surprised; there are many topics that Firo doesn't keep track of, and Canadian politics is one of them.

But he does know some things about Canada! He nods a few times, and, with as much of an air of authority as he can muster, offers:]

People used to bring in pretty good whiskey from there during Prohibition.
blindfoster: (human15)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-19 02:09 am (UTC)(link)
Did they? Prohibition... that was an American thing from a looong time ago, before I was born. [He's immortal, and unless he's killed he'll live for centuries upon centuries, if not longer. But right now he's exactly as old as he looks, just shy of eighteen.] That went on almost a hundred years.

[Wait hold on now, this has Quentin's attention entirely.] Is that the when you're from?

[Crazy. But interesting. Really interesting.]
foundafamily: (Thinking for once?)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-20 02:54 am (UTC)(link)
A hundred years?

[Firo's not a stranger to people being from "his" future, but that's still a long time in the future to imagine.

He nods.]

Just about. They finally got rid of it last year, where I'm from.
blindfoster: (human29)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-20 04:29 am (UTC)(link)
Almost. Maybe eighty? A long time anyway. I had to learn about it when I was going to high school for a while.

[But that ended abruptly, and that was his only foray in American history.]

Huh. That's interesting though. I guess I was thinking of people from different worlds, not different worlds and different times.
foundafamily: (1.1)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-22 01:52 am (UTC)(link)
Believe me, there's all sorts of people from the future here.

[The future to him, at least.]

There used to be some people from farther back, but I don't know how many there are now.
blindfoster: (Default)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-26 08:29 pm (UTC)(link)
People from further back I'm used to. Tybalt talks like he's from a bad historical romance novel... which I guess is because he's a few centuries old. And also dramatic.

[One or both of those for sure.]

I guess I'll get used to it more here. The future thing too.
foundafamily: (Default)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-02-28 03:06 am (UTC)(link)
[Firo nods, smiling a small smile of commiseration. Getting used to it is the only option, much as he's not a fan.

He thinks a moment, then adds:]

Centuries?

[That part isn't so strange to Firo, given that Maiza and Czes each have a couple hundred years under their belts. His tone is cautious, though, as he wonders if this Tybalt is some other immortal.

Or maybe it's just weird fae stuff.]
blindfoster: (fae37)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-05 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah.

[Quentin, having decided apparently that if he's talking about it, he may as well be full on honest shrugs.]

Fae don't age like humans. If we aren't killed, purebloods will live forever.

[And even changelings have lifespans far beyond the human half of their parentage.]
foundafamily: (pic#8980742)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-03-06 02:49 am (UTC)(link)
[Firo's shoulders relax slightly. So that Tybalt person isn't another immortal--or, at least, not the same type as him. He has to guess that the mechanics are pretty different if blood comes into the equation; from Szilard's knowledge, he doubts his kind of immortality is passed down.]

And I'm assuming that includes you? [A ghost of a smile passes over his face.] It's a good deal if you can get it.
blindfoster: (fae27)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-07 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
It does, yeah. And I guess so. It's... almost hard to really think in those terms though. Maybe someday it won't be. But I'm seventeen, so even that feels like a long time.

[He's immortal, but young still. It's a weird mix, but that's the like he leads. Quentin shrugs.]

You don't sound all that surprised about the whole immortality thing.
foundafamily: (v pleased with himself)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-03-08 01:13 am (UTC)(link)
[Firo nods slowly; even being several years older, he still can't wrap his head around the idea of eternity. Not that he really tries too hard.]

Don't think about that kinda thing too much.

[As for Quentin's comment... It sounds like there's an implied question in there, and Firo considers briefly if he should cop to it before landing on "why not." He's already told Cayde about his immortality, and he's pretty sure a guy who's a different kind of immortal couldn't "eat" him like the others back home. He bobs his head once in acknowledgement.]

I'm immortal too. Or I am back home--it doesn't work here.

[Which is too bad, because otherwise he could show off his neat bleeding in reverse trick.]

We must be different kinds, though. People like me can't be killed either.

[Bragging? Him? ...Maybe a little.]
blindfoster: (fae01)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-09 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
What really? But you're human, right?

[Quentin hasn't met the immortal human he'll eventually meet in his own world yet, so this is a revelation of sorts.]

But yeah, sounds pretty different. Fae can be killed.

[It's not always easy, and some of them are much harder to kill than others.]
foundafamily: (Thinking for once?)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-03-11 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, if you still count that as human.

[He shrugs. Some don't--he doesn't really know what the real answer is there.]

I got it from drinking the elixir a couple years ago.
blindfoster: (fae10)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-03-12 03:10 am (UTC)(link)
Huh! I mean sure, you're still you right? That means you're still human. Just... less breakable?

[Definitely interesting actually. Quentin has never heard of any magic than can turn a human immortal. Sure, Toby can change the balance of a changeling's blood. So can a hope chest. But someone fully human? Nope.]

Does that still work here? Because Astoria definitely messed with my magic.
foundafamily: (pic#7645517)

[personal profile] foundafamily 2019-03-13 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
[Hey, he'll take that view of it. Firo smiles a little, only for his expression to sour when Astoria's brought up.]

Unfortunately, no... What about you? Did she leave you with anything?
