the temple of beginnings.we're all a little mad here.
Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.
Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.
Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.
...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.
That’s always an option, isn’t it? oh my god they were roommates.
It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)
These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.
Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.
Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it! wildcard.
The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.
The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.
At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

[how'd he know about that little exchange?]
no subject
[The vine curls around his nose but makes no move to ensnare him. He nudges it again.]
From the sounds of it...once the King started messing with the Void, it was over.
no subject
[there's a slight lessening of Merlin's usual good humor as he says that, thumb rubbing against the wood of his staff.]
Trying to tamper with things you really shouldn't, powers beyond reckoning that topple entire worlds, overreaching out of good intentions. That's kind of a shame, isn't it?
no subject
Shiro looks back at him and his voice is quieter.]
It is a shame. He did what he felt was best. Sometimes that's not enough. He was willing to do anything he could for his people. He accepted his sister instead of resenting her.
no subject
[he's quiet for a moment, as the vines slither away, and Merlin glances to watch them go.]
The same goes for us. We were fighting certain doom. No way to save that world. And yet, even so, we made something of a miracle happen. We saw what could have been the beginnings of reconciliation start to take place. And more people lived than were meant to have died.
[that was a gain. a victory, in every life preserved. that Akvos would be remembered, would continue on in the blood of its people hidden in a new world.]
Overturning that is no small thing. We did pretty good, against those odds.
[it's not specifically for Shiro that he's speaking, but for the rest of the Circle. the grief that hung in the halls like fog. innocence and hopeful dreams that weren't tempered with reality and the vastness of the task before them. and it's for himself, to be a reminder that not everything had to be perfect.]
no subject
There's a relief to hear someone else say it. If there's one thing he learned over the course of his life is one can't save everyone. He stretches his right shoulder to let the muscles get a reminder they're flesh not metal.]
We did. We did the best we could given the circumstances. That's all anyone can ever do.
[It feels like not enough. But they don't have time to truly mourn the loss. They have to move forward. At least he knows how to do that...better than he will ever admit to. He crosses his arms over his chest and looks at his companion.]
Hopefully what we've learned will arm us the next time we face a situation like that. I still want to have a long chat with Kathashun. How did he manage to get there and what does he know?
no subject
[the rest he knows about that man comes from what he overheard and was able to piece together, a little. an ally, if he was talking to them.]
no subject
...he is an ally. But none of us knew he could cross to other worlds. And that message made it seem like something might be hunting him. [It worries him. Astoria hasn’t said they have to go back to El Minha but his worry remains. Could it need more help? Why is the king moving through worlds?]
I worked with him and his best friend, Jalin. I just get this nagging feeling they have a piece of this puzzle that we don’t.
no subject
[and he says this as a mage himself.]
Ally or not, I wouldn't be too surprised if there's a web going on we're not able to draw back and see.
no subject
All he has to do is think back to his previous prosthetic and its surprises. He stares off at the forest.]
...I've always thought there are events going on I can't see. It was the only thing that made sense.
[Whatever that means he looks back towards the temple.] ...Astoria mentioned I've known the void before. I've been running it over in my head. It didn't feel quite the same but it did feel familiar.
Close enough I wasn't sure if I'd ever left it.
[His experiences with it while alive had been brief. His time as a spirit...it felt endless.]
We're allies and even if we weren't I'd give you this warning. Keep your will strong, or you'll lose yourself there.
no subject
Thank you.
[even if they don't see the void again for a long while, the words were sincerely meant, and Merlin's not so cruel that he doesn't see that. the comments on knowing the void pique his interest, and yet, he keeps tact for now. later, he thinks, he might be able to go and pry.]
no subject
...thank you.
[The weather seems stable and he glances up to make sure it is. He's been wary about it since Astoria became available to speak to again. That reminds him.]
It is possible whoever is behind the darkness pouring into other realities is attempting to foster the conditions for rifts?
no subject
[and the thought makes him somber. no one wrecks the world for no reason.]
no subject
[His mood sours and he sighs. They have next to nothing concrete. Well, at least they know some of the risks.]
For now, best to focus on what we know and what we can do. Writing our experiences down and preparing for whatever is our next mission.
