the temple of beginnings.we're all a little mad here.
Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.
Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.
Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.
...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.
That’s always an option, isn’t it? oh my god they were roommates.
It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)
These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.
Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.
Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it! wildcard.
The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.
The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.
At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

[Sheryl pauses for another few moments and then shrugs.] Whatever-- it's not important anymore. No more apologies; we're square, all right?
So are you one of the robots? Like Connor, A2 and A4?
no subject
"One of the...?" I wasn't aware there were other robots here.
[Actually, he's never spared a thought to meeting other robots in his life. Looks like he'll have to start doing that now, knowing he might meet one. Mettaton takes the opportunity to introduce himself, brushing his fingertips against his pink chest plate.]
I'm Mettaton, the Underground's premiere entertainment robot! I've yet to make my debut among humanity, since Astoria kindly stole me away before I could grace them with my presence... But! I'll stop at nothing to finally perform for humanity! Someday.

There's no mistaking the attitude of a showman, even if it's from a mechanical being. Sheryl looks at him... and then bursts out in a peal of laughter, doubling over and clutching at her chest.
It doesn't seem to be mocking, though. She's genuinely amused by it.] I didn't know they made entertainment robots! That's great!
[She takes a breath, straightening up and pressing her hand to her chest.] You've gotta have a dream, right? I hope you'll get to do it, Mettaton.
I'm Sheryl Nome, the Galactic Fairy. Top idol in the galaxy~
[Or at least she was.]
no subject
He puts aside being awestruck once more, regaining his upbeat composure as he smiles brightly at her.]
Top idol in the galaxy... I've changed my mind. I'll just have to shoot for THAT level of radiance, myself! Top idol in the galaxy is more inclusive of my target audience, anyway. Which is everyone. [He taps his cheek thoughtfully now.] With my robotic tirelessness and your well wishes, I'll achieve my dream in no time. My... It's no small wonder your very presence left me starstruck, Sheryl-darling.
no subject
I'll admit I wasn't feeling particularly glamorous, strung up like that. [She says, her bravado fading somewhat with a sigh.] Putting on a show is one thing, but getting trapped in the woods like that is another.
...so, what's the Underground?
no subject
[Which means either none of them share the same world as he does, or they've managed to forget that in their history, they were responsible for trapping monsters away. Mettaton cannot determine which it is, but he has a hunch it's the latter, in most cases.]
Well, I'll tell you. [He raises a finger.] It's literally underground, of course! Long ago, monsters were sealed away beneath the Surface by humankind. With little hope for escape, we built our own civilization there: our kingdom... Our towns.... Our residences... My resort. [Mettaton spares a moment to think about his professional endeavors and all of the plans he has yet to come, before he redirects his gaze up to the mild sunlight filtering through the trees overhead.] But we all held onto the dream that someday, we would return to the Surface once again. It wasn't the greatest, but we made due.
no subject
[Because there's not really ground.
She listens to what he says, though-- it seems simple and straightforward enough. Literally trapped underground, huh?
Alto would've gone crazy.] Why did the humans do that in the first place? That sounds pretty rotten of them.
[Underground resorts, though.
That sounds pretty entertaining.]
no subject
[Mettaton redirects his attention away from the sun and back to Sheryl with an easygoing smile.]
In the end, we shouldered all of the casualties. A single monster against a human in combat... A monster in that position may as well be planning out where they'd like their dust sprinkled after their demise! We didn't stand a chance.
no subject
It kind of makes her think about the war with the Vajra, too.] Mm, there was something like that where I came from. A war that didn't have to exist-- we were lucky enough that it ended in peace.
[Doesn't bring back the ones who died, though.]
no subject
[Something-something about being peacekeepers, but he hasn't had the pleasure of being sent off to a new world the way some of the circle members have been. He tilts his head at her, the corner of his lips pulling into a lopsided smile.]
What were the circumstances for the war you experienced? Greed? Fear? ...Something else?
no subject
In retrospect, it's almost funny. But that doesn't outweigh months and months of terror and stress or the grief the fighting caused.] It was a misunderstanding.
The Frontier fleet entered a part of the galaxy that was home to an insect race, the Vajra. And neither race could communicate with each other; the Vajra just saw us as invaders and we responded to being attacked.
no subject
[Mettaton puts himself in her position, trying to imagine what it would have been like for humans to meet with monstrous creatures that they couldn't understand, only for them to attack. Of course they'd go on the defensive. He himself hasn't been through wartime firsthand, but when he tries to think of things from Sheryl's perspective, it stokes his sympathy.]
Did you make amends with the Vajra somehow? Did you finally come to understand one another, resulting in that peace you mentioned?
no subject
...it just doesn't bring back the people who were lost in the process.
no subject
[Mettaton glances toward the vines that once kept her captive, a new thought occurring to him.] By the way. What were you doing out here, before these vines caught you up...?
no subject
[The question, though, seems to put her on edge. Or at least make her a little defensive.]
...I was just taking a walk, you know. There's nothing suspicious or wrong about that!
no subject
My my... I only asked. I would never suggest that there's anything wrong with a suspicious walk! Or, anything suspicious about just taking a walk. ... But I also wouldn't have a reason to judge other motivations. [Mettaton glances away, a mischievous edge tugging at his smile.] Either way! As for myself... I was only investigating this new place. And I found you, in a stroke of good luck.
no subject
Also, glad to change the subject.] Yeah, new people walk around a lot-- can't really blame anyone for wanting to get themselves all settled, you know?
I'm glad you found me. I'm not sure that thing would have ever let me go on its own.
no subject
[Not that he has anything to compare it to, being a new arrival. Mettaton shifts his weight onto the leg closer to the rest of the temple.]
Now that you're in good shape, I'll be on my way. I'll leave you to... whatever you're doing. [Martial arts. Mettaton isn't any the wiser, but that's fine. He's alright with the unknown.] I've got other matters to attend to, as you might expect of me. I always keep busy. Take care, darling!
no subject
[She gives him an awkward wave.] Thanks for the help, though. I guess?
[This was
an odd encounter.]
