( intro log # 1 )

the temple of beginnings.
we're all a little mad here.

Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.

Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.

Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.

...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.

That’s always an option, isn’t it?
oh my god they were roommates.

It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)

These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.

Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.

Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it!
wildcard.

The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.

The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.

At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

I do not know. She seems to be genuine in wanting to help the worlds we visit, but it would be nice to have more information on where we wind up.

[Welcome to the club, squire.]

I am. T'would be odd not to be, considering I am a witch.

Genuine is good, but... why isn't she asking people for help instead of grabbing us up with no warning? There are heroes out there who'd agree to help, I bet.

[Maybe? That's sort of what heroes do, right? If the cause is noble and all.] Though I guess that's a lot to hope for.

[Instead of being drafted into it. Honestly he should be more used to that given how things work in Faerie.]

Oh? Well yeah, I guess that makes sense. I've never really met witches -- aside from like the goth girls in high school. But they definitely had no idea about what magic actually was.
nogoldenmirror: (mirror ☽ should I stay or should I go?)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-19 06:19 pm (UTC)(link)
If I knew why, I would tell you. And I know plenty of people who would willingly volunteer for this.

[She's not one of them. She only really cares for one person back home.] I see you're learning already.

[Welcome to the club; she didn't even have a say in joining the wild and crazy ride that was the Fifth Blight veteran circle. It's not even over yet for her. Sigh.]

That is the second time I've heard that word, and it saddens me that they don't. [Magic's great mmkay. Even the dark and scary shit (which is, admittedly, right up her alley.)]

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-19 07:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Humans in my world don't really do magic.

[Mostly. With a few notable exceptions anyway. The general rule is true though. And that's a rule Quentin didn't ever expect to be proven wrong.

But here he is in this weird place where magic is all over, human and non-human alike. He's got a lot to figure out still.]

Where I'm from, magic is sort of a Fae thing.
nogoldenmirror: (dissent ☽ who I am)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-19 08:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Where I am from, only Dwarves have no potential for magic. Even so, t'is rare and feared by those without. ...And by some with.

[It's such a shame, really. How easily they're caught in a cage of terror of themselves. She sighs.]

I have never even heard of Fae before coming here. Even so, I'm not exactly human.... if I am at all.
blindfoster: (fae06)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-19 08:54 pm (UTC)(link)
That's why we keep it a secret, keep ourselves secret. A long time ago when we weren't so good about hiding, things... weren't good. Those were the burning times, and none of us want to go back to it.

[Much better to hide in plain sight and not have to worry about angry villagers with pitchforks and torches. And worse, iron and silver.]

Maybe you've heard of Faeries? or Fair folk?

[The various names they've had associated with them throughout years.] Can I ask what you are? That's probably rude, right?
nogoldenmirror: (explain ☽ 'til I can't break free)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-19 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
A fair enough choice. Though rather hard to pull off in different circumstances.

[Quite literally anyone could be born a mage in her world, save the aforementioned caveat.

She shakes her head.]
While the latter could be used for Elves, 'tis not a commonly heard term.

...And I do not know. The only person who could answer that question is dead, if she would even give a straight answer. I can, however, give you what they called me: a Witch of the Wilds.
blindfoster: (human11)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-19 09:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. I mean if anyone can have magic where you're from, it's probably not easy to keep hidden. For us it's just Fae -- all the different kinds of Fae -- and Changelings.

[Who are half Fae by blood so they count as part of Faerie.]

Elves is pretty close I guess.

[Based on what he understands about, like, Tolkien.]

Witch of the Wilds. [He repeats, nodding. Okay.] One of my friends back home is called the Sea Witch sometimes.

[And that connection in his brain is a good association. So why not Witch of the Wilds too. But more importantly.] I'm Quentin, by the way. What's your name?
nogoldenmirror: (stubborn ☽ to tell)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-19 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Indeed, it is not.

[Her eyebrow raises then falls back in line with the other, obviously curious about the term yet she says nothing on it. Yet.]

Perhaps, though we both likely know far too little about either to make a proper guess.

Oh? [Well then. Someone who doesn't automatically recoil at the title. Sometimes she misses the terror in their eyes when it's mentioned.]

You may call me Morrigan.
blindfoster: (human05)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-20 04:25 am (UTC)(link)
[Sorry, Morrigan. Somewhere along the way his better sense about where to invest his terror went and got broken.

So now he just smiles, nodding.]

Good to meet you, Morrigan. You know... except for the gossipy flowers part. Or the touchy vines part. And the kidnapped to a different world part.

[Other than all that? A pleasure.]
nogoldenmirror: (amused ☽ there'll be no turning back)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-20 08:52 am (UTC)(link)
[One day. One day she'll hear the screams of "I DON'T WANT TO BE A TOAD" again. It'll be a good day.]

And you as well, Quintin. Despite the circumstances.

[She'll take the manners, though. Something far less rare these days but still appreciated.]
blindfoster: (human03)

[personal profile] blindfoster 2019-02-21 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
[Quentin definitely doesn't want to be a toad, but if the Luidaeg hasn't turned him into anything terrible yet, then he'll probably be fine. His smile brightens at the response. Good. Okay.]

I should probably figure out where Spike's gotten off to. Good luck with the flowers.

[And also please forget about his chattier flowers as well, okay?]
nogoldenmirror: (curiosity ☽ with nothing but)

[personal profile] nogoldenmirror 2019-02-21 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
[Good luck with keeping things that way.]

Best of luck with finding them. [She waves him off. And nope, never. It's something she can use later.]
