we're all a little mad here.

Needless to say, the Circle has been out of sorts as of late.

Fortunately, the weather has stabilized — residents will find that they are no longer plagued with snowstorms or heat waves. However, it appears that the flora and fauna have...come to life. Vines may wind around your feet and legs, entrapping you in a vice-like grip. They will eventually let go, but it seems like you need to speak nicely to them first. Bizarre, but it'll get the job done.

Mushrooms have also sprouted and now sing at you when you pass by — they aren’t particularly good singers either. Trees extend their branches to poke at you from behind, but when you turn around you’ll find that no one is there.

...And worst of all, the flowers seem to be especially privy to your thoughts; when you’re close, they’ll blab out whatever is on your mind at the moment and will only be silenced once they are picked. Best of luck surviving in this more, er, animated environment! Perhaps even plant-life can be reasoned with…? Or destroyed.

That’s always an option, isn’t it?

It isn’t a proper welcome until you’ve picked out your room! In the hallways, you may find a table or two offering cookies and tea as you survey your newfound surroundings. They seem to be left by invisible people . . . weird? The Unseen Servants seem to be playing a bit more nicely from your arrival, and seem to be apologizing for their antics with sweets! (These cookies, neverfear, are not magically cursed. They are just normal cookies.)

These rooms are a bit magical, you see — should you decide to room with another person (or multiple people), you’ll find that the room itself will accommodate your needs and expand accordingly. They look the same for the most part, so some might say that it would be wise to make your decision based on what your neighbors are like.

Say hello or potentially someone else’s room by accident; it’s a bit of a Russian roulette.

Regardless, it seems that this is your new home in sense of the word. Make the most of it!

The Temple is a pretty big place! The Forest of the Fey stretches on endlessly, Lake Dona (and the resident Nessie) is free to explore, and there are plenty of creatures who are curiously inspecting the new arrivals.

The wyverns seem to be particularly precocious today, given the singing mushrooms, the psychic flowers, and the new people checking into new rooms! They are relatively harmless (as are most of the creatures in the Temple), but can be pretty annoying . . . especially if you have something resembling a snack in your hand.

At any rate, free to explore the rest of the Temple, the Forest, or the Lake at your leisure! Unless otherwise designated in the bestiary, everything is free to play/free to explore. :)

[Apparently recognising that the gesture is some kind of greeting, Ren offers a polite (if somewhat bouncy and cutesy rather than formal) nod back.]

Suzugamori Ren, but just Ren is fine...it's nice to meet you. I've only heard a little about this place so far, but I guess if you're trying to stop stuff like what happened to that planet from happening again, the more people there are, the better, right?

[Ren seems pretty optimistic about it thus far, despite hearing about what happened previously, but then, as far as he's concerned, dwelling too much on failure is just setting yourself up for more failure.]

And I agree; the more diverse our pool, the higher likelihood we have to succeed. More ideas are better than fewer, but I think we're coming to a head in terms of who we should follow, and what we should believe.

[ if murmurs on the network are worth anything, anyway. ]

[...Well, he can't be too dishonest about that question, since it would probably be a bit obvious. Nonetheless, he lets out a lengthy, thoughtful hum before he responds, as if he needs a moment to decide on the answer.]

Well, I only just got here, so it's hard to say...but if I'm here and stuff like that is going on, then there's no reason not to help, right? And then maybe I'll figure out more about how I feel the longer I'm here.

[Neglecting to mention that he absolutely loathes being cut off from his friends and would prefer to depart here before he gets too attached to anyone and creates a whole other problem with that. That's much deeper than Ren's pretty much ever willing to get with his emotions.]

[ lotor doesn't necessarily feel the same, but he does feel something close. and, after a moment or two of pause, lotor answers his own question, allowing ren a piece of information in return. ]

I don't mind exploring the universe, and learning new things, and experiencing different worlds . . . but I would want to do so on my own terms, and not the terms of someone else. Astoria's story is nice, but whether or not it is true is something of considerable debate, lately.

Hmm, it's definitely better on your own terms, isn't it...? [Ren allows that much in return, at least, though he sounds a little absent minded about it. If there's one thing Ren particularly hates, it's being subject to the whims of anyone other than himself.

The matter of Astoria has him looking thoughtful again, though.] Has there been that much happening to make you think what she says might not be true...?

Specifically? No, but I am a believer in evidence, and research, and she has provided nothing to prove to us that what she says is true aside from our need to trust her.

[ another shrug of his shoulder. ]

It puts us in a difficult position, as you can probably see; the need to help is paramount, of course, but we want to ensure we're doing the correct thing. And the only voice we have to depend on is hers.

[That sounds a lot to Ren like it's probably the cynics who are primarily arguing this, but there is a certain logic to it that he can see. For the most part, he's found himself stumped by how stripping their powers helps the stated cause at all, especially if she's powerful enough to outright give them something else - most of the people Ren's met who are capable of that have pretty considerable scope in their abilities, so he can't help but wonder if it was intentional.

For now, though, he gives a somewhat doubtful hum.] I guess that kind of makes sense...though when did people start arguing about it? It sounds like things must have gone pretty okay before that last world.

[For the loss to have been such a blow, he can't imagine they've messed up anything else before now to that degree.]

People tend to find the courage to speak up when the situation becomes dire.

[ evenly enough, but lotor seems to confirm what ren says; its' really come to a head now, after akvos. ]

But who knows? It may fall to quiet, after the next journey. I'm of the mind to wait and see, rather than to jump to any rash conclusion, but Astoria's lack of leadership leaves much to be desired.

[Sounds about like what he guessed, but that slight elaboration does give him more of an idea of what would be causing that kind of dissent. Indeed, his own expression draws into a little more of a frown upon hearing that.]

So she's been sending you all out to places but not actually guiding you...? That kind of seems like setting you up to fail...strict leadership is pretty boring, but she must know more about this stuff than we do.

[If she's the one sending them out to these places that are on the brink. Surely she's been observing enough to provide useful information.]
