( world #2 - struxta event log )

a storm approaches.
above ground.
It is early when you wake up to a message on your watches. Those underground will not receive this message, due to the complications with service. It is a simple line of text, with no further explanation given. You’re not sure how it even came through, or how they found a way to connect to the watches. Either way, a message comes across the screen.

All newcomers to Struxta are instructed to remain in their rooms until further notice.

It’s the middle of the day, on the 17th day in Struxta, that the notification rings out. Not through your bracelets, which might be your first assumption, but through what had previously been an unused announcement system. It doesn’t take much though to realize the announcement is for you - why would thousands of minds all connected to a singular consciousness need any kind of mass announcement system? No, they are talking to you. Whoever they are.

The announcement echoes through every building, street, hallway, and room in what feels to be the entire city - perhaps the entire world, and everyone above ground can hear it. It’s inescapable, really, the mechanical voice that calmly but firmly surrounds you.

All newcomers to Struxta are instructed to remain in their rooms until further notice.
Please return to your room if you haven’t already.

For those of you who are in your room, if you choose to venture out the Hostel itself will seem eerily normal. It is not until you get to the door that you see the figure - an imposing, large, mechanical figure armed with two devices. It takes up nearly the entire door, only moving aside if there is another Circle member being brought inside. Then it will return to its post. You will notice that if you approach the figure, it will not acknowledge you except to repeat the announcement.

Please return to your room.

They are impossible to sneak past, but more creative means could provide you with a way to get through. However, if they do catch up to anyone attempting to leave the premise, all they will need to do is touch a Circle member, and an electric shock strong enough to make any and everyone pass out will be administered.

If you do manage to make it past the Enforcers, the streets will feel oddly calm - like nothing has happened at all, despite the echo of the announcement around you. Do not waste time here, once you are free - the Enforcers will be chasing down any members who have gotten free, as made obvious if you choose to stay in any kind of public (and most private) spaces for more than an hour or so.

Where will you go?
below ground.
Whether it is a tip from another Circle member, or by coincidence alone, you might be able to find yourself underground. There seems to be more openings, now - all centered around the area of the Races. Doors and passageways with BG’s beckoning members in, taking them down below where even the sound of the announcement can’t be heard.

They will offer safety for anyone who was not originally part of the Tunnel Exploration, while also explaining what their fellow Circle members are preparing for. About the Storm, about their history - any of the previous questions asked here will be explained to anyone who makes the trek underground. It will take a day to get all the things in order to transport everyone to The Storm, and this will be a chance for all Circle members to regroup once they make it inside the tunnels.

They press you not to wander too far, and to instead simply wait with them in the industrial tunnels below the city, a never-ending interlocking maze of wires, pipes, and metal. It’s dark, dusty, and definitely not comfortable. But one thing it is, they explain in their glitchy half-sentences and partial thoughts, safe.

The Mass Consciousness has apparently deemed you a threat, and are systematically working on a solution to the problem. There’s no telling what they might do.
wildcard.
This is your world to explore. Something has tipped the Mass Consciousness off to a possible issue, a possible threat. What you do with this new status is up to you. Outside of the Hostel, the natives will completely ignore your existence, like you have been entirely erased from their reality. The only ones who seem to notice you are the Enforcers, and the BGs.

For those who have decided to investigate, and hopefully put an end to, The Storm, the log will be posted tomorrow (July 28th 11:59 PM EST). ICly and OOCly you will have one more day to prepare. Please be on the lookout for that log, as the description will include what you will find and what you can assume! We will also continue to take questions over at the OOC Post through the course of the event.

Above Ground

[Wash hasn't ventured too far away from the nearest entrance to Struxta's underground - honestly, below ground sounds a lot safer than the city proper right about now. He's been up here just long enough to get the message on his watch - he'd known the city was way too good to be true, but being right really sucks sometimes.]

[So he's on the lookout for members of the Circle in an attempt to bring them below ground. If he knows his fellow dimensional displacees as well as he thinks he does, then there have to be a few who've escaped from the hostel.]

[In fact, there's one right now.]

Hey - over here!

Below Ground

[The past 24 hours have given Wash a lot to think about - killer weather phenomena, a hive mind that might decide it wants the entire Circle dead, and the fact that he is currently really angry he hadn't thought to grab his armor before being dumped into Struxta.]

[That last one is an indulgence - honestly, there are better things to worry about, and he'll know for next time.]

[And there damn well will be a "next time."]

[For now, he's doing what he can to prepare for tomorrow's journey: namely organizing and passing on information - on the BGs, on the Storm, on the Mass Subconscious - and making sure whatever supplies they have are ready for the trip to the edge of the Storm.]

the hostel: action.
[ the minute the announcement is sent out, roy immediately avoids his room. you can find him exploring the bottom floors, attempting to find a way out, but once he is (perhaps inevitably) caught and told to stay inside, you can see him . . . well, calmly, attempting to talk his way out of being escorted back to his room. ]

-- no need to stay inside, all of us are capable of taking care of ourselves --

[ it seems like his hypnotic persuasion powers do not work on robots. who knew? feel free to catch him on his way back to his room, or come get him at his listed room -- he's going to be attempting to stay out of it for as long as possible, to test his luck. ]
the hostel: text ( public + locked )
[ after it's clear he's not able to walk out on his own, roy sends a message to the entirety of the circle. this message goes out to everyone, so if you are outside, please feel free to respond! ]

( public to the entirety of the circle )

Who else is trapped in the hostel?
We need to coordinate a way out of here.
These people are not our friends.

[The one goddamn day he decides to sleep in and THIS happens. Of FREAKING course. Maes is thankful for text, because right now he'd probably come across as a bit testy.]

Hostel. I already have a few places in mind I can take us within my radius that are pretty empty.

[After a few days of walking to the library, Maes had started working on his teleporting to the library. And then he'd started working on teleporting everywhere else. It was important to have escape routes or exit strategies planned in advanced after all. He knew his teleporting had a limit, but he could make multiple jumps if he needed to get them really far out.]

I was told to go to my room.

[ the sheer amount of salt that is in roy's general being translates over text. somehow. ]

Good. I'm currently trying to find another way out. Not having much luck.
How far can you teleport, and how draining is it?
How many people can you take with you at one time?

Currently out, was coming back from tunnels.

I have some blank paper with me, I can possibly help if you get a plan going. There's....7 sheets with me, so 7 spells.

[He'll laugh later...when this isn't a terrible situation. Although he totally does smirk a little at that message. He can't help it.]

Haven't noticed any exhaustion yet, but my range is about 8 kilometers give or take. I have to be touching the person or object, unless I'm really familiar with them and then I think I can teleport them at will.

[He hasn't tested that part much. Mostly with objects. He'd called his dagger to him, but it wasn't until he'd been studying a book for awhile that he was able to call it to himself. He's not sure how that translates to people.]

If it's by touch though...probably four?

No one is allowed in or out of the hostels, and I haven't found a way to get past the robots absent a fight, which I'm going to lose.

[ he misses his alchemy. ]

We may need those seven spells to move people out, if an alternative isn't found soon. Stay away from the hostel for now.

Don't overexert yourself by doing too much at once. It'll be better to stagger the escapes to avoid suspicion anyway.

[ he hesitates, at that, his fingers lingering over the holographic keyboard of the watch before he continues. ]

Riza first. Alphonse next, if he's stuck in this building. I'm going last.

What if I used one to try and get the robots to stop working or look a particular way for X amount of minutes to get everyone out?

I can absolutely stay away for the time being.

I don't want to risk the entire system being alerted to what we're attempting to do. Something doesn't feel right, here. We don't want a repeat of Shehui.

[ that had gone about as wrong as it could go. ]

Being on the outside is more advantageous to our position, anyway. If we can teleport people out, without the guards knowing, that would be best.
teratias: (08. Study corner)

[personal profile] teratias 2018-07-29 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
Got it re: the entire system. I will agree though, this smacks of repeating history if we aren't careful.

Who is it with the teleporting skills? I can at least try and provide cover for getting people to whatever the agreed upon escape point will be.

I only know of Maes Hughes, but there may be others. Maes can be trusted.

[ even if he's. a lot. ]

I'm already in contact with him, but I can tell him to come find you, once he's prepared.
teratias: (06. Thinking)

[personal profile] teratias 2018-07-29 01:24 am (UTC)(link)
Got it. I'd....say we could try it out with my current abilities, but now's not the time for experiments.

[Waver isn't ready for the absolute everything that is Maes Hughes.]

Sure. For now I'm gonna lurk closer to the tunnels until you've got something more concrete.

[ post . . . escaping the hostel, lotor is in need of allies, particularly given his current situation with the members of voltron. and he knows, through other members, of an underground. allura can take care of herself, and doesn't particularly want his assistance right now -- so searching for somewhere safe, for himself and for her, is of paramount importance.

it's then that he hears the hey, over here!, and he pauses. a tall young man, with purple-ish skin, a sword on his hip. sup, wash. ]

-- a member of the Circle, I assume.

[ not warily, but also not quick to trust, as lotor glances wash up and down quickly, moving closer to avoid shouting. ]

Are you alright?

[Lotor is currently filed under "people that Wash may have seen in passing but doesn't know in person." There are a few too many of those in the Circle for Wash's tastes, but that's a problem for another day.]

[...depending on how the rest of this conversation goes, Lotor might also get filed under "says dumb shit."]

Wow, is it that obvious?

[But multitasking is Wash's forte - which is to say, he can snark and be productive at the same time. He moves ahead and gestures for Lotor to follow, keeping his voice down - not that any of the citizens of Struxta are listening to him anymore, or that there are any around in this particular area to be listening.]

I'm fine. We need to get off the streets - there's an entrance to the underground this way.

the hostel - open to one character who wants to escape
[She cannot stay here.

It isn't the thought of being cooped up helplessly in the Hostel that has her feeling rebellion pin-pricking at her skin, but the thought of there being something having caused these announcements out there, so soon after others of the Circle have mentioned something about an Under Ground. Call it a sense for trouble, but Allura knows something is amiss, and while part of her deciding to not remain in her (new) room at the hostel has something to do with her not wanting to sit idly, another part of her is honestly looking for a distraction from heavier thoughts that keep creeping in.

Without her abilities to change her size or shape, she is admittedly not the best when it comes to sneaking, especially when her paladin armour is a not-so-subtle white and pink. But there's the ghost-like figure something large and white shadowing her, keeping close like a blurred white fog.

For now she keeps to the walls, not knowing there aren't patrols keeping to the halls but something much larger on the ground floor preventing their leaving.

Running into another member she recognizes from the Circle, she'll approach with intent, hand at their shoulder.
]

Are you looking to leave as well?

above ground - ota
[Her sneaking around makes far more sense now that she's made her way out of the Hostel. The ghostly white shadow of a Lion still keeping close to her, a mist-like shield of sorts helping to misdirect any attention from the collective Mass Consciousness that looks her way.

She's wondering where to go, wondering what the issue actually is that made their once-hospitable natives keep them to the hostel.

Finding another Circle member, or traveling with another, she'll turn to them for advice.
]

Do you know what is happening here?

Of course.

[He isn't sure if Riza will go for that. But now might not be the time to argue that. Besides, if he's acting as transport he'll have to stick around anyway, stay close.]

Just don't get into any trouble while I'm going back and forth. I'll try to spread out the escapes, though I imagine some of the others among us will find their own ways as well.

If you are having trouble getting out, let me know where you are. I have an ability that can help. -M. Hughes

Above Ground;
[He had his orders. Not that taking orders from Roy was really necessary when you were this far out of the reach of the military and technically dead. But Maes figured old habits died hard and following Roy was one of his oldest habits at this point.

It takes some thought. He can't let the big guy at his door (which is how he has taken to referring to the Enforcers) get wind of what he's doing, but he can't just hang around either. So, Maes makes a point of huffing and sliding down on the opposite side of his bed. He makes sure he's out of sight, waits to see if the big guy will check on him at all. He waits and nothing happens. Which probably means that he won't be missed. Maes closes his eyes, he can't necessarily envision each individual location but if he can picture the person he wants to get to usually that's enough to get his power to work. He's been practicing with it for the past few weeks now.

He just has to hope that whoever he teleports to can help him avoid the notice of any other Enforcers. Riza first. Then Alphonse. Then anyone who responds to his text. And then periodically checking on Roy. It's something he can do between teleports so that not everyone is disappearing all at once.

The big guy doesn't even notice when Maes is no longer in his room and a second later he's appearing elsewhere. Hopefully when he appears before a member of the Circle it's also out of sight of the Enforcers...but Maes's luck with that might not hold out for each venture.
]

(ooc: I'll leave it up to whoever responds whether Maes and whoever he is rescuing are seen by the Enforcers or not. Teleport chase scene could be fun.)

[Wash isn't surprised the various members of the Circle have started escaping the hostel - nobody he's met so far has seemed the type to sit still when something this out of the ordinary - as ordinary as things get for Struxta - happens. So when he runs across Allura, the only real surprise is the spectral lion at her side.]

[...magic is still weird, okay.]

I have some idea, but there are better places to talk about it. Come on.

[He nods in one direction and starts heading that way, expecting her to follow.]

[ roy had explained to her what was going to happen. how his plans, and ideas, and maes, were going to come into play. and while she didn't feel comfortable leaving roy inside while all this was happening, she had also been able to work herself into a state of enough self awareness that she understood that she needed to get out. and once she did that she'd be of better use.

that is the only reason (or well, the main one) that when hughes appears in her room, she does not actually pull the trigger - rather, just has the pistol pointed directly between hughes' eyes, her own gaze tight. and it's also why, once she has a second to process the appearance of general maes hughes in her room, she lowers the gun and immediately flips the safety back on. ]

Sorry, sir. Habit. [ hopefully he doesn't notice the way her hands are shaking slightly. hopefully. ]

Probably for the best.

Do you know how many people have made it to the underground, or how many people are outside of the hostels? Being out in the open gives them more reason to herd us together, so staying out of sight is smart.

An understatement.

[ this FUCKING SUCKS PROMPTO!!!! ]

I have the beginnings of a plan, starting with finding people who can teleport or move through walls to move people out of here as quickly and efficiently as possible. People who can't fight go first, people who can hold their own can wait in case these beings decide to attack for whatever reason.

Have you tried to walk out, yet?
dadandgone: (Now You've Gone Too Far)

[personal profile] dadandgone 2018-07-30 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
[It's not easy teleporting and finding a gun pointing at you. There's something to be said for instinct though, in that there is a moment where he tenses and is ready to teleport away or pull a weapon of his own (a measly dagger? what was that really going to do?). Instead it's very much a move of displaying his open palms and keeping a steady gaze on that trigger finger. Maes had thought Hawkeye had been given enough of a heads up to warn her about his appearance, then again, if she truly was caught off guard he'd probably already be dead.

Again.

Yeah, he was going to have to tread lightly with teleporting around Hawkeye that was for certain. He lowers his hands in a slow, purposeful manner when the gun is no longer staring him in the face.
]

Given the circumstances I'll try not to take that personally.

[Unfortunately, he DOES notice the shaking. However, priority dictates that he not comment on it. It just gets filed along with everything else.]

Roy spoke to you already, right? I can get you out of here, but you're definitely going to have to trust me. I can only teleport you if we're touching.

[He holds out one of his hands as if that wasn't obvious. But given how he'd just been greeted, he wants to make sure he's laying as much out for Hawkeye as possible.]

Do you need to get anything or are you ready to go?
