( world #2 - the storm. )

a storm approaches. This log is for everyone who signed up for The Storm investigation. Feel free to use the here to plot further on how you plan on approaching The Storm, and the issue. The mod questions thread is also open, if you have anything you would like to run by us.

the investigation.
It takes a day of preparation, and a day of discussion, before you are led further down into the tunnels. It's pitch black, but one of the BGs who you have become familiar enough with turns on a low light and continues further. You walk for ten, fifteen, twenty minutes, and then turn a corner into a large, open cavern. The BG explains that at one time, this had been an underground transportation system - old and unused for centuries, now, but still in working order.

They file each of you onto a single car - it seems to be large enough to fit nearly a hundred, possibly more, bodies - so everyone has a space. The BG explains that they have already input the coordinates into the system, and that once they close the door, you will be transported to the last known location. The car will be programmed to wait for 72 hours, and then will return to this location. There is food and water supplied, and already packed, in the car. If you are not back in the car by that time, it will leave you behind. They then give their farewells, thank you for your help and readiness, and step away from the door - letting it close behind them. The car travels down a pitch black tunnel, and while the inside is dimly lit enough for the Circle Members to see each other and move around without hinderance, you can see nothing through the windows. It continues for a few hours at this rate - nothing to see, no idea where you are going. That is, until it seems to break through the surface, the track running through buildings and another, unknown area of the city.

The streets and buildings are abandoned, the tech old and outdated, windows broken out and dust filling the street. The sky, like back in the city you knew before, is cloudy and grey. But these clouds are different - these clouds are dark in a way you haven't seen before. You travel for another half hour above ground before the cart comes to a stop, and during this time it happens twice. A low rumble, seeming to come from everywhere at once, and then a few heartbeats after, a disasterous flash of lighting - miles away, yes, but threatening and gigantic, brighter and more violent than you've ever seen lightning before. The crash shakes the ground under you, and the damage is immense.

But the buildings are abandoned, the streets empty save for crates, old mechanical bits, dusty remnants of a society long forgotten by the Struxta you came from just a couple of days prior.

This is The Storm you've been warned about.
the storm.
You have been asked to find out information that will help the BG's, and Struxta, to stop The Storm.

From what you can gather, it does seem to be a naturally occurring weather phenomenon, as far as weather systems seem to work on this planet. However, rather than scattered thunder and lightning strikes, it seems to almost recharge and strike with epic proportions. It can damage, or destroy, buildings. It shorts out any and all items (and people) who depend on electricity in any form to function (Sorry Daylight and Conner, sorry to anyone who brought along technology) within a three mile radius.

The 'darkness' the BGs were talking about does follow this storm, but they seem to have been referring to this electrical shortage that comes from the storm and it's strikes. If this storm does reach any of the still-occupied areas of the city, it will shut down the entire grid, as well as any of the robots, androids, or electrically based figures that exist there - essentially ending the life of every Struxta citizen that is effected.

Plot, plan, theorize, and see if you can find a way to stop The Storm. If not, be back on the train car in 72 hours time, to return to the BGs and report what you have found.
PROMPT IDEAS
1.) Discussions on the train - do you have any ideas for what to prepare? Any discussions you may want to have? You and your fellow Circle Members are caught here together for a few hours, driving into a situation you know very little about. What do you want to make sure you're prepared to handle?

2.) Scouting missions - the heart of The Storm is very much in the distance, and it is not moving quickly, giving Circle Members plenty of time to set out and check out the surrounding city. What you will find won't be much - this is a robotic ghost town in every turn of the phrase. Buildings have been abandoned for hundreds of years, covered in dust and left entirely undisturbed, except for the breeze that now seems to flit through this entire area. There are stores, warehouses, apartments, and buildings you can't even tell what they were used for, cleared out. Whenever, or whoever, lived in this part of Struxta had evacuated, quickly but efficiently.

3.) The Storm - The Storm is still a distance away from where the cart has dropped you off, enough that when your 72 hours are up, the heart of the storm and the lightning strikes shouldn't reach the car, or the track. This does mean that to do any closer investigation, you will need to go to The Storm itself. But be careful - the electrical output from these lightning strikes are dangerous, and can have all sorts of effects on both natural and mechanical beings. The wind, the closer you get to The Storm, will also pick up - making any kind of flying or air travel impossible.

4.) Planning - the car leaves everyone off at an old train station, which a large room attached. This room can be used as a kind of home base, as well as a meeting location. What do you plan on doing? Simply taking down information, or trying to take the storm head on? How do you plan on doing that? Will your abilities help? This room attached onto the train station is a safe location - no effects of The Storm will make it inside. Use as you would like!

[Meddy was somewhere between the city and the station. His arm tingles but they're far enough away from the storm it isn't disabled. He'll have to see who has the technical know how to put buffers into it. Or could help anyone who has a metal body. He discards that line of thinking as he steps out of the station.]

Do you remember what route you took? I know a few routes we've all been using often if you don't. We can go over each one until we find them.

[They will find Meddy. He won't let up until they're located and safe.]

While we're farther from the city I can scout from the air. ...even if we get close I can manage it for a short while.

[ when asked about whether or not he remembers the path he took with meddy, daylight looks stricken. as if something had just occurred ot him in that moment.

he struggles whether or not to tell the truth. then he feels awful for deciding whether or not to tell the truth. meddy's life on the line. shiro is willing to risk himself to help daylight out. the least he can do is suck it up and be honest.

right. ]
Um...

No. I don't remember. [ he winces and tries to make himself small, as if expecting a reaction from that admission. ] Ever since I tried to connect with the Mass Subconscious some days back, I've been having... troubles... with my systems and programs. [ his winglets droop down the more he speaks, almost disappearing from sight. ] I think it'll be smarter if we searched out the routes you know and...

[ and hope for the best.

funny how a phrase he loves to use is suddenly very, very awful to say in this moment. ]
spaceforged: (What are you telling me?)

[He takes a second to absorb what he's being told. The Mass subconscious. A cold shiver goes down his spine. He can just picture the sea of minds all seeking to make someone part of their constant flow. He subtly pales and shuts his eyes, discarding the thoughts. Not now.]

...then we'll go the leftmost route first. By covering the farthest then the nearest we can make sure to face the most dangerous ones first. Just in case.

[He glances at Daylight. He should say something.]

And I'm glad we didn't lose you to the mass subconscious. Is there anything I can do to help with your troubles?

[ just in case. yeah. better to get that out of the way.

not that it stops daylight's winglets from fluttering in anxiousness. he tries to tell himself that it'll be fine. if there's anyone he can trust for this sort of situation, for this sort of path they're taking? it's definitely going to be shiro.

his assurance is seemingly confirmed when daylight catches shiro's later words, his spark - staticky and stuttering as it is - warming up at the concern. ]

I'm glad too. I'm sorry I worried the others when it didn't go so well. [ next time? have something to cushion his fall. (or, you know, listen to the others' advice when they all say, 'this is a bad idea' when he floats an idea next time.)

he pauses when asked what can be done for now because huh. that's a good question he should have an answer for at this point. ]
... I guess make any future questions light?

[ he tries to joke about it but the way his optics are flickering kind of diminishes it. ] The others did their best after I got hurt. I've, um, just gotta rest up and I'll be right as rain.

[ ... which he isn't doing. at all. he'll do it, he swears, but he's gotta find meddy. ]

Sounds like you'll be joining me in resting after we do this. [His form collapses into light and expands back out into the Black Lion. He takes off for the left path, trotting easily along. Keep questions light. He can do that.

He thinks.

His yellow eyes burn brighter as he clamps his jaws shut. As the Lion he can cover a lot of ground very quickly.]

Do you remember the scene of the last time you saw Meddy? What was around you. If you can't that's fine. Keep it in mind as we search. If anything jars your memory let me know immediately.

The scene? Um- [ give him a sec, shiro.

daylight tries to rattle his processors, digging through the memory files that were both available and not painful for him to access. not an easy task, given how often his processor freezes or stalls in an attempt to protect itself from doing something too strenuous. he is really, really regretting the attempt to connect with the mass subconscious.

but, finally, something pops up for daylight to shift through and it thankfully has some things to work it. ]

There was this huge crack across one of the buildings. It was smoking when we passed by. From the lightning, I think. I-

[ wait a minute. daylight stops dead in his tracks, looking around their current surroundings with wild optics. ]

Did you hear that? I think I heard a-

[ bweeeep...., is the sound daylight heard.

and it's heard again.

it doesn't take daylight too long to pinpoint its location: its further ahead, where debris and wreckage is littered across the landscape. ]

Meddy! Shiro- I think Meddy's over there.

[He waits at Daylight's side while he searches his memories for an answer. There's nothing he can do to help him with that. Shiro sweeps the area with his eyes and tries to locate any sign of Meddy.

He starts looking harder as the details flow. If they can find that along the path...]

How wid-

[Shiro stops. The sound comes once, then again but he can't pinpoint out. But Daylight can. He finally locates the source seconds behind Daylight.]

Let's go!

[He bursts into motion but he slows to whatever pace Daylight takes, making sure they don't repeat what happened to Meddy themselves.]

[ daylight tries to run towards the direction of meddy's noises, stumbling now and then when lightning strikes and he feels his systems freeze up. sooner or later - hopefully later - meddy can be seen by shiro's point of view now that the pair are closer.

they're hidden behind a pile of debris, trying to keep away from the lightning strikes. huddled and curled up against the pile. they're fine. scared. battered. tired. but they're fine, to an extent. and it's something that daylight does not fail to notice. ]

There! [ he sounds so relieved, even as exhaustion and static begins to get in the way of his words. ] They're- They're over there!

[He slows down as his own systems freeze up but he keeps pace with Daylight. He catches sight of Meddy at some point during their struggle. Shiro pauses to be sure lightning isn’t going to strike soon and changes shape. It’s a relief they found them so quickly.

Too many other scenarios were just as likely. He kneels down by the debris and does another look over. Battered but not harmed.

His own relief tinges his voice.]

Hey, your ride out of here is here. We’re ready when you are.

[He mentally calculates the distance. On foot as a normal person won’t be that hard. His arm will lock up on the way back but for all of them the problems will be less the farther away they get from the storm.]

[ bweeeep...!

meddy makes the happiest beep it can manage - more of a wheeze at this point, but it’s an improvement from them being unwilling to make sounds at the start of this mess - and they all but fling themselves into shiro's arms.

after a second, they let out another string of sounds but it seems to be directed at daylight from how the galateion laughs. ]

Yeah- I promise Shiro won't tease you about this anytime soon. Too serious of a situation, you know? [ at that point, lightning rumbles. a preamble to the inevitable strike that'll hit the ground and cause some serious muckups for all robots out and about.

meddy makes an unhappy noise and it's now daylight turn to wheeze. ]

Definitely- Definitely time to leave.
